Is there a reason why, in the face of genuine (if blunt and perhaps strongly-worded) criticism, the administration's sole act of defending itself is to delete any post(s) it disagrees with? I understand that the tasvideos staff has a superiority/god complex, but come on.

Did this ever happen? I can't think of a time when the staff has deleted a post without a good reason. Do you have an example?

What has happened in the past is that the forum database failed and "ate" a post, causing the poster to think it was deleted by administration. This was a misunderstanding. The tasvideos forums are known to have strange issues every once in a while. Perhaps this is what happened to you, DootBeep?

Yes. Several of my posts regarding the Bizhawk emulator and a string of horrible decisions by the developers working on it were outright deleted. I am aware the Bizhawk link is to an e-mail marketing firm. This is another of their bad decisions, which apparently they are not changing.

Also: No, this was deliberate. The posts (there were several) are missing, and posts referencing them still exist. Several people saw the posts for many hours before they were erased.

Yes, I deleted them, and will continue to do so, you aren't welcome here. I'll be locking this thread and banning at some point tonight.

Thanks. In the coming weeks, I'll try to build on this.

You can ban me all you want, but you're still a horrible administrator, and an even worse developer. Those facts won't change, even if you try to delete the posts calling you out. Maybe you should just face them for a change.

I can't help but notice that DootBeep's question about the justification for deleting his posts has gone unanswered. Even if it is the sort of reasoning you think would have been obvious to everyone, you should still state it publicly and explicitly so as to prevent confusion by people who didn't have a chance to see those deleted posts.

Justifying their actions is not something the new tasvideos staff has ever felt it necessary to do. See also: The many TASes that they reject even with much audience support. This is just another instance.

Given the authority with which you speak (as well as the seemingly-instant antagonism you have with the administration), I'm guessing you're an alt for a previously-banned account, which would be grounds enough to ignore everything you say. It would be nice if the admins informed us of why different people get banned, but oh well. They're handling a nasty job with more grace and goodwill than anyone could reasonably expect, and they have my respect for that.

DootBeep is an alt of XKeeper, who many of you well know was banned by adelikat. The main reason behind XKeeper's ban was for his consistent negative attitude towards TASers, administrators, and anyone else who behaves in a way contrary to his expectations. Xkeeper is of the concept that if anyone does things in a way he disagrees with, then the proper course of action is to berate them. There are plenty of people who take issue with certain aspects of the site. We aren't a perfect admin team - not by a long shot - we are just doing our best. And, when suggestions are made (that don't require a complete reprogramming of the site) we do our best to accommodate. However, Xkeeper had issue with all aspects of the site, and took advantage of every chance he had to criticize and disparage any person of power. It becomes evident after repeated, unfocused attacks that it is an individuals problem with authority, and not legitimate complaints. Bizhawk is a labor of love for adelikat, zeromus, and vecna. They have spent the last 6-12 months trying to make it the best cross-platform TAS engine they can. They are not expecting payment, just a certain level of respect. Xkeeper's posts were, in standard Xkeeper form, berating, belittling, and disrespectful to the effort that had been donated. He had the simple option of not using this emulator, or ignoring it. Instead, he sought to attack those who had put effort in. adelikat told me personally he regrets deleting those posts. However, I ask all of you to reflect how you would feel if someone came and took a giant shit on your hard work, a gift to the TAS community?

This is a perfect example - Xkeeper contributes nothing but negativity. He has done nothing to help the site, emulator coding, etc, but is more than willing to denigrate the work of others. Quite sad, actually.

DarkKobold, thank you for explaining the situation to us, as I am one of many users who did not see the deleted posts and wasn't aware of what had happened.

I think people just don't like destructive criticism which uses lots of swear words. I saw dootbeep's posts. He was providing harsh and blunt criticism of the emulator's original feature where it refused to load files that did not exist in a database. The Bizhawk project just screams out arrogance right now, and doesn't have enough substance to back it up. It's listed as the "Preferred" emulator, even though it is still early in development, and is not yet ready for prime time. Zeromus also rubs me the wrong way. I often enjoy helping people work on their emulators, but I can't stand working with this guy.

I'm not going to comment on your opinion of BizHawk or its devs. This isn't the place for that. It isn't just about the criticism, it is about the fact that a banned user circumvented his ban to perform the exact same activities that got him banned in the first place. We have pretty strict rules about handling banned individuals. DootBeep's account shouldn't have been created in the first place. Xkeeper was given a route to be re-accepted into the community, however he declined in favor of his pride. I will refer you back to this post I made in his ban thread. His ban has been converted into a site perma-ban. He is no longer welcome here in any capacity.

If you want criticism to be listened to, the burden is on you to phrase your criticism in a such a way that the recipient won't dismiss it out of hand. Otherwise you're just venting your spleen, regardless of how accurate or pertinent the criticism is. Put another way, just because someone did something wrong doesn't mean you have carte blanche to insult them for it.

I rub you the wrong way on purpose, because you rub me the wrong way. Run your posts through a condescension and pedantry filter and I'll do this same. I still truly appreciate whatever help I can get out of you regardless of the level of sass.

Oh look, an argument on tasvideos where every single party comes out looking worse, never seen that before. Well except DarkKobold <3

I certainly don't disagree with banning people who deserve it, but I never really saw the point in deleting posts. It only serves to confuse people who took part in that discussion, and it makes it impossible to verify if the admins did right in banning someone. Of course, there are exceptions. Like if someone posts personal details, or regular commercial spam, or shock images. But if someone's going to get banned for being a public nuisance, I would want to read his posts to see if I agree with the decision, so that I can at least have the possibility of disagreeing in an informed manner. Especially if it happened as a result of a discussion.

No, I didn't, and I was glad to read that actually. But I wanted to make the point anyway because I think it's important.
