s3k - the challenges is a hack of Sonic 3 and Knuckles that lets you select a challenge to complete similar to the level select of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
  • Gets S ranks in all levels.
  • Aims for fastest time.
  • Abuses programming errors
  • takes damage and loses score to save time, and just for no purpose.
  • One player controls two characters.
This was originally going to be part of an april fools sonic the hedgehog mega pack, but it took me a lot longer to complete then I had planned.

For the record: I loved this one, and I am saddened that it seems to have been lost amidst the April Fools onslaught.

It's horribly unoptimized especially at the start, it seems I'm not very good at TASing s3k. but I thought the game deserved at least a quick run through by someone who had an idea what he was doing, and that "quick unoptimized run" ended up taking months. (I don't even remember when I started this run, but it was at the very least before new years)

I had tried watching this movie about a week ago or so, and I couldn't get into it, because I didn't really know what the challenges were. Once I found a good description at http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_3_%26_Knuckles:_The_Challenges , the run became a lot more interesting. Certain challenges felt fairly slow, like the ones where you just have to follow Sonic, but that can't really be helped. (I was pretty surprised, though, how little you could be on screen and yet still not lose points in that one.) I'd say this is generally a publishable hack, but it is really long. However, the run's quality does feel sort of sloppy. I would definitely vote Yes to a more optimized runthrough, but at this point, I'm going with Meh. Nice idea for an April Fool's Day run, though!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.
