And samurai goroh: what is that steal glitch you mentioned? I couldn't find anything about it in GameFAQs.
Mmm, I remember there was a FAQ there, but it's still mentioned on the Cheats & codes section, Unlimited Weapons (and GP). (Maybe it was deleted or it was really a FAQ from IGN...) Anyway, It may appear a little confusing at first glance, but once you try it, it's piece of cake...

Oh yes! That will definitely come in handy when making a TAS. If i remember correctly Boco was worrying about the money quite a lot at one time.
Which run should I encode next? :)

FF5 run...now that'd be cool. I'm definitely all for this.

has ANYONE made ANY progress? from the gathered information here as well as gamefaqs and SDA, it should be more than enough to at least finish a test version. im not discounting other things such as LIFE coming up, but this game just seems kind of mindless to complete at this point (for me at least)... we've kind of answered the money issue (well, once you're past karnak, which Boco was, since you need a Ninja), boss strategies can come almost directly from the GameFAQs low level FAQ, routes shouldnt be a huge problem for a test run, you'll escape from every battle pretty much (aside from Bosses). sorry if i sound whiny, but this game has been on hold for a while. id like to attempt it but i wouldnt be able to do the japanese version (because i dont know any second languages).

Do you really need to know language?? =) If you know game well, you can play it even at Japanese version. Please go for it =)

im not comfortable with doing it on the JP version for one (sorry). i think its just the language barrier that seems initially intimidating (taking into account item lists, which i'd have to sort and resort would be more of a hassle and someone who knew the language could just look at it and go "oh, thats what i wanted" without resorting). for another, im working on FF3j at the moment (albeit, not a final version since its a fan translation). maybe when im finished (or satisfied) ill be able to bring something to the table aside from comments. ;)

I watched Boco's WIP recently. One question I have is about avoiding save points. If I recall correctly, you only get text explaining save points the first time you stand on them. A lot of the game's save points are positioned in the fastest path through corridors (ie. in the ancient library) and because there are so many I'm thinking it may be worth activating this text the first time. Has anyone tried to figure out if that's worthwhile or not? (I'm guessing nobody has, since nobody is working on this now.) Maza already mentioned the secret passage in the Wind Shrine. Those were the only possible time savers that were obvious enough for me to spot in the WIP. Using blue mages is a great idea.

Well, you can save time when you wanna trigger a fight (or avoid it). If you walk in the forest, you'll fight earlier than if you walk in a plain path... As for more secret passage, I think the next one that saves time is until exdeath's castle, on world 2... I also think that walking into a save point will help you eventually, even if it's a TAS play, you might need sooner or later to use a tent or cottage to heal the party fully...

hmm... should we just wait for the ff5 advance version (along with 6's)? i know its a bit off topic, and im not even sure if they'll port it over to english (though i dont see why not), but Phil's doing his FF4 advance run instead, so maybe it'd be better? thoughts on this?

Well, if the advance version is exactly the same, I wouldn't mind as you can see the game in English (though you can rarely read something in a TAS run :P). But what if there are some differences that slow down the run? Like slower intro, fights, & so... BTW, can someone try making a test run with the patched game? If someone tries it, I bet this game will have more attention & people helping each other to complete the run... (then you can switch back to the original version...)

If it's like the FF4 port, there's a very good chance that there'll be an auto-dash added on. That would speed things up considerably.

goroh, i thought about doin a patched run, but i think there should be an outline of whats to happen in the game. such as minimizing all gathered information into a flow chart thats quick and to the point (we do seem to have EVERY resource availible). on that note, ill try and throw something together for whoever assumes to run this.

FYI: The FF5 run from SDA has been submitted. After all the processing and such gets taken care of and it goes online, it would be a good help for a TAS and maybe provide some motivation. Worked for some other SNES RPGs.

Gosh, them's fightin' words. I like FFV all right though...I hope to get on as a verifier for the SDA run.

...fine, ill try one. the problem im currently in (which i assume many are) is that of planning. but ill try and come up with something. im still gathering info, so if i post a WiP, it'd be very short and stay that way as far as progress (learn as you go type thing). id urge someone more experienced to step up though (i have to re-learn a lot). i just got out of the wind shrine last night (sorry, i was really tired). im gonna do a little planning for the future of this run (im using Boco's strategy almost primarily). EDIT: ive not forgotten about this, ive just got a lot of info to go through in order to make a decent strategy. the SDA run is a focal point, but then i remember, we can manipulate luck, so im pulling everything ive got (and theres a LOT to sort through). hopefully, ill have something to show sooner than later.

Please reread the thread where I correct errors in my path. You're choosing the wrong battles in world 1. (there's a formation outside Tule which has a Goblin and some other stuff that gives you Goblin Punch and the needed EXP, also there's a formation you need to encounter before the mountain to get the EXP, etc). Some of your boss strategies are also slow.

Don't fight the bats. Also use a slow battle speed, it affects when enemies get turns only. You can use fewer Sandbears against Archaeoavis I think because not all of his forms are Heavy (so 2x Sandbear, 2x Death Claw+attack, 1x L5 Death for the 5 forms). Byurobolos you want to use Suiton or something and kill all but one, who uses Exploder, so you learn it. Don't bother learning 1000 Needles. You seem to have some assumption that Ice and Water are the same element? They aren't. EDIT: You can't avoid battles on the Big Bridge. If you kill Abductor the first time you don't fight him the second.

i have no such assumption about the elements. sorry if it seemed that way. and i have been able to avoid battles on the Big Bridge before by simply moving left or right a step before the enemies came for me. in the LLG guide, he states the party seems to determine where they'll appear. by doing that, you can avoid battles (aside from the forced one upon entering i believe). EDIT: one last thing, can anyone point out some good monsters to steal from. i was going through the chart/list and have forgotten where i encounter those monsters (Karnaks were all that came to mind). thank you ahead of time.

Hey visit here and read it carefully, just because it has strategies for all the bosses. As for Big Bridge you CAN avoid battles. When I was doing my speed run, I got ONE battle (Lil Chariot) before Gilgamesh, and NO battles after him.

i did go over the SDA thread for strategies, but i dont know which ones are faster (again, im use to overkilling, not exploiting things at a low level). ill just include those side by side, for completeness reasons. and thanks for the help on the Big Bridge. was your party a determining factor in it, or was it all pre-determined? in any case, thats really handy, thanks once more. EDIT: is Apocalypse (or whatever the Blue Mage Abuser's Name in Dimension Tower) a good idea to battle? it'd provide a save point.

You can kill Apocalypse in one turn: Use Exploder, he learns it and uses on you. K.O. :D

hahaha... suicide manipulation. thanks once more bmgenji. ok, for a more refined outline, i'd need specific times when you'kll change from job to job. considering theres not much random battling after Karnak, im guessing right before the Boss Battles would be optimal. however, we still have points where Blue Magic is needed. -Ancients Library - Level 5 Death -Overworld at Lix - Dark Shock -Byurobolos at Meteor - Exploder -Ex-Death's Castle - Level 2 Old those are all that come to mind at the moment. as well, a shopping list, since maybe buying magic in certain areas might be better. and lastly, which skills to master? ill leave this all to others, since im not sure whats effective in a LLG or fast one. one quarrel: about Abductor, is it absolute that defeating him on Solitary Island will cause him not to appear later? i cant exactly recall if i killed him or not, but i remember him re-appearing after exiting Galuf's castle (and i took a long while between Solitary Island and then, leveling up and mastering skills). i know it seems logical for him to NOT re-appear, and he's almost mindless to beat again anyhow, but i just want to make sure.
