Sorry for bumping, but does anyone know that you can do the flagpole glitch in 8-3 and not waste time? It's gonna have to be fairly optimized though...

I doubt it.

I assume it would be pointless due to the 21 frame rule.

If you're quick enough, then you can use the flagpole glitch on 8-3 and still have 244 seconds left. And sorry, but what exactly is the 21-frame rule? I've read it, but don't exactly understand it. Is it sort of a restriction?

Every improvement on every level except 8-4 needs to be vast enough that the total number of frames is the next multiple of 21 down, is my understanding. So if a level takes, let's say 600 frames and a new trick saves 10 frames on that level, the new trick is useless, because there will be a 12 frame delay. You need to save 12 or more frames to bring the level down to 588 frames or less to save any time. That's actually probably wrong because I don't think I understand the N+21y parts.

I don't think that is possible at all. I just did a quick test to verify this. You would have to be doing this an entirely different method, one that involves just running and jumping to the left of the base of the flagpole to get it to work. If the flagpole glitch can be done that quick, then it would save time in many other places as well... but uhh one question: Are you using the PAL version? Or are you just assuming it's possible? A nice explanation of 21 frame rule: "It isn't random or due to slowdown. Think of it like a window at the end of a level or pipe room that is only open every 21 frames. Say you have two separate runs where you reach the window on the 50th time it opens. If you arrive just after it closes the 49th time then you have to wait 20 frames for it to open the 50th time. If you get there just as it opens the 50th time then you can enter without waiting even though you arrived up to 20 frames later. Generally speaking, you can only save time in multiples of 21 frames (0.35 seconds)." - scott kessler

Well, the flagpole glitch isn't only done with jumping off of the top stair and landing in that block. If you can end up on the ground in front of the pole, then there are ways of getting inside the block from there. Also, are the extra frames that result frame breaking the 21-frame rule just lag? I played on the E. version, possibly ROM, I'm not sure (Universe-X is n00b). I haven't been able to acheive it in 8-3, but I've done it plenty in other levels. If you need an example, I can get one of my recordings...

Double post. Found new glitch in version E. but I'm not sure if it works in the USA version. In world 1-2, I found a way to "store" an item. http://www.mediafire.com/?mjm4y1yj2vm If you hit the brick then the item pops out, and continues in it's path. Otherwise, it's stuck. Could this be useful at all? Is this a a new glitch? Also, if you want, 2-2 has an interesting glitch, but it's the same deal as Air.

No, it's not. See HL Wonderland 1-9 (played by Mars608), and you'll find the answer. Please create a new page, and watch the movie: http://mv.baidu.com/export/flashplayer.swf?vid=81b3e4c1e61d97557223e7ed

So, it's not a new glitch, but is it useful at all? Maybe even in SMB2?

It shouldn't be useful for TASing I think...

So, I've been working on a 100% walk-a-thon... but it failed miserably by 4-3. I know there's a trick to get past that, but I'm no good at TASing P So far, up to the very end of 6-4, my time is 1935.90 Very improvable. And, if anyone's gonna get a mushroom, get it by 1-3. EDIT k, I finished the run. I made a final time of 2728.33, give or take 100 frames that were skipped due to crashes. I found that getting a mushroom by 8-3 is much more... better P Well, that's some of the info. If you want the run, it's 5 parts long...

I do a 100% TAS on SMB. Now I'm in the 2nd world. I've collected mushroom and fireflower to beat the bowsers faster.

This is a quest for maximum score? Or to break every box and take every item possible?

No. I will beat all levels in this run. Collecting all coins, mushroom and other isn't possible

Doesn't this run beat all levels in the game?

i said, collecting all item doesn't work, not playing all levels. Try read twice, if you don't understand

I don't think randil thought you were saying that beating all levels is impossible. I think he wants to know how you plan to improve on the published movie.

As Randil said, you are basicly planning to make a movie that has already been done. Is there still a misunderstanding? Or are you still going to make this run just for fun? I would also like to see a high-score TAS (without dying, warpless).

I wouldn't. Just find a turtle that you can stamp him as you want, the score will turn zero after it comes the maximum of the score, it doesn't mean anything.
