This is a plan for an improvement to the warpless TAS (in 2-1). According to this it should be possible... http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1379619203/happylee3-smbwarpless.fm2 I haven't succeeded yet...
Absolutely impossible.

So why does my linked reference do it then? Does it only work there since it's a brick and not a solid block?

I can't watch Youtube, someone please explain it to me, thanks. No one can do that, unless there's a coin or something. I'm not sure if it can be done in PAL mode, because I don't play in PAL mode.

What you'd really want for a high scoring run is a modified version of the game that removes any infinite source of points, or makes them less lucrative than the time bonus. Without wide acception amongst some community of your modified version as the standard, it'd be as arbitrary as choosing not to milk those infinite sources, though.

I stopped my Super Mario Bros. "no warp" project, because I had a really stupid method for TASing. But I made a Super Mario Bros. "any" TAS in some hours to learn the better method for TASing. Don't take it serious. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGdbmQ2ykTE The video describtion shows how I made a TAS in the past.

Looking at the TAS, I do have to wonder. Can the current SMB movie still be improved in a way? Or is it one of those movies we can truly call perfect?

Let's call it perfect, so it'll be more astonishing when it gets beaten again. :D

I believe there are ways to improve the SMB warped movie. I have never stop trying, and I've been really closed to save 21 frames in 4-2 and 1 frame in 8-4. And I'm about to finish my Super Mario Bros "Lowest score(500)" TAS.

300 points is the lowest score. in world 8-1 you have to die 3 times, when the title screen appears, hold b and press start, now you are in world 8-1 with 0 points. finish the game - it's 300 points.

That's not fair, it's obviously a twice-played score :p You can have the WIP1 of the run on my personal page, enjoy watching :)

You might be interested in this encode for the current warpless movie... Yeah, much bigger in file size, but you'll see why... Edit: I also uploaded it to Youtube

Post edited, I just checked and verified that 100 is the minimum amount of points you can get in a level.

No, in some levels, things can be different. Here is my idea of grabbing the none-flag pole without any score. http://tieba.baidu.com/%B3%AC%C2%EA%D2%BB%B4%FA/shipin/play/54118720d50be33a8b0b8f83

Too many sprites onscreen to load the flag? Very clever. :) But setting up the koopa shells already got you 1600 points so Dwedit stays right about his statement.

At the time HappyLee submitted his low score TAS, something was bugging my mind again...

I would be very interested to hear *how* coins do help Mario to enter walls? I don't think PAL mode was used in that video since it wasn't sped up and it was originally from Nico Nico Douga, a Japanese video site (which supports the thought that the author used the normal version). I'm always trying to look for improvements and currently I think my latest suggestion has the greatest probability to succeed. Also, HappyLee, I heard you are going to do a new warpless run (which you seem to plan to do for 2011), right?
