This makes sense. With the PAL version, if you jump right as you're about to hit the base of the flagpole, you'll get the flagpole glitch. It's still no easy feat though! nice one! :)

After watching this video I thought it might be a cool challenge to make a TAS where Mario touches the floor as least as possible. Of course, when a level starts Mario is already on the ground so it wouldn't count. But as soon as you get on the first object in the level, the fun starts. Everything is allowed, walljumping, walking on bricks and pipes, entering the floor (only standing on top of it is forbidden). You can get pretty far with these rules. You need to enter the ground twice in 1-1, and need to use some nifty wall glitches in 1-2 and the scroll glitch to enter the ground again at a certain spot (though I'm not sure if it works). I'm not sure about 4-1, you can probably use the mushroom to rejump in the air and enter the ground, but you need to leave it to pass some gaps so you will be forced to touch the ground now and then. But I think this could nevertheless be a fun challenge.

Cruel rule it is. It doesn't sound fun to me. Perhaps there are better challenges which are worth TASing.

I think going through the floor counts as touching the ground though.

It was only some idea. Probably nothing publish-worthy or anything. If you aren't allowed to enter the ground to bypass touching the actual ground, you will have to touch it more often. I thought it would make things more interesting. I made some crappy pics... at least these levels could be interesting. But I'm not sure if those wall glitches in 1-2 will work, or if the screen scroll trick in the middle of 1-2 will be enough to spawn the goombas to use them to enter the ground. 1-1 1-2 Sorry, all the image hosters I tried scale big pictures down so deal with it. You can still see the main route I think.

You could take the pipe in 1-1 - probably less interesting, but less frames actually touching the ground. 1-2 - you could walljump off the back wall starting out and then just run over the entire level lol... I mean, that's the way to do it touching the ground the least amount there.

If you take the pipe in 1-1, you will touch the ground in that room. But if you enter the ground twice as I suggested, you won't touch the top ground ever in 1-1 (except at the beginning and at the end when Mario walks to the castle). By touching the ground I actually mean "stand" on the top ground. 1-2 is an interesting idea. But makes it less impressive...

Yeah, I'm just looking at it as "get the least amount of frames touching the ground." Also, entering the ground would make it more interesting I guess though. 4-1 would definitely be interesting.

Still, this is not a interesting thing to talk about, I mean, the floor is just like those other blocks, and I don't find it so special. Maybe we should spend more time thinking about more important things, things that really matter.

What's more exciting, SMB warpless TASv4 WIP3 has done, watching is free and welcomed: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/471479025/HL_SMBwarpless_V4%20WIP3.fcm 4-4 is finished by now, 84 frames are saved, and I'm half way to 8-4 -more than half, in some senses. World 3 is my favorite, enjoy! :) Comparison video

I'm sorry to hear that HappyLee doesn't care about the 'don't step in the lava' challenge, as I'm a big fan of both his and that category of goal :( My very first TAS attempt was a minimal-frames-on-the-ground run of SMB3, which you can take a look at here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=227638&highlight=#227638 I only posted the first level, since I didn't get much response. I got most of level 2 done, but got frustrated at the very end since I could come incredibly close to doing a huge jump off the flying guys and landing in the ending box, but always barely missed and had to land and jump again. Anyway, I enjoyed those videos, and I hope more gets done with this, in this game and others!

The floor glitch has been known for a while now. It only works in the PAL version and is useless for the most part. We can use the flagpole glitch with Mario walking against the flagpole block on the PAL version, so there's no use to do the floor bug for flagpole glitching. If it can be used in the warp room in 4-2, it would save some time, but it's probably not possible.

For a while, out of boring, I'm making a warpless walkathron TAS. Is that a good idea?

Probably not. But go ahead, it'd never hurt to do it. It may help you to learn to TAS better. I recall there's one part that's really hard to cross without running in one level.

I know that. This really hard moment is in 4-3, at very beggining. This was discovered by MUGG and showed here. I can't do this :/

Oh come on, you are a TASer, you can do anything you want in the game. You just need to try hard enough.

It seems nice, but not good enough. And by the way, Mars is also making a warpless+walkathron TAS, which is much faster and more entertaining. I'm glad to see new people TASing this game, but perhaps you can do a better job by trying harder.

Patryk1023, the problem is that you don't really seem to try. Remember, TASing is about perfection. Don't be content with ANYTHING you've done unless you're convinced it's perfect. You've clearly not done so. I'm not trying to insult you or anything, but it just seems to me like you don't really understand what TASing is.
