I appreciate when people give me some commentaries about my run. Maybe I will redo stage 2-3. At least, I don't need to redo that 2-2 level. This level was boring to do :)

Just watched the second WIP, and I really liked it. ^.^ BTW, does swimming backwards save time, or do you just do it because it looks interesting? :)

It was a different level than world -1. I had a game over in world 8, then from the start screen, held A and start button to continue. It took me to that level instead. I can't seem to reproduce this trick. I made a savestate of it if you guys want to try the level. http://members.shaw.ca/richu/SMB.zip
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you load that?

I have just updated the link. It's now 1-1 to 4-4. Same link as before. I am waiting commentaries before continuing.

i was watching it on a different rom and it went desynch at 3-2; watching your run i couldnt help but compare with the one i'm currently making :P - have you tested if shooting makes you lose speed (because you have to release B)? - if not, then there seem to be some enemies you ignore, while others you kill. maybe they could be killed? it's going good though, i have no real complaints :) i think adv island should be done by killing as many enemies as possible, it looks better on a straight-forward game, i guess. unless it's really hard to avoid the enemies. it isnt so hard to avoid the enemies on mario 1, so maybe you should really kill all you can ;)

In my opinion, killing enemies while running isn't so hard and less interesting than avoiding some of them. Sometimes I kill enemies from behind which is harder to do. My goal is for entertaimnent not mathematical like I did in my first version(Warp run v1) and somehow failed to impress some people. Now, it is to do a warpless version as fast as possible and show some glitches. If there's someting wrong right here right now, it is time to redo some part. When finished, I don't want to redo the whole game.

It might be fun to see at least one level where you kill everything that can possibly be killed with a fireball. :)

btw, I liked the way slowing down was done in 3-2 to avoid the fireworks. I never really liked the way 8-3 was always done because it was just too obvious, I like more subtlety with such things.

Looks good so far. I especially like the stomping of koops and then shooting fireballs backwards to nail them a second time. The assorted ducking jumps and the wall glitch in 4-4 are also very well done. Looking forward to the finished run

Looking good, Phil. :) I love it when three enemies die all at once. 4-4 was terrific -- the wall glitch, and popping the boss with a final fireball right before you hit the axe. Good stuff.

I liked your choices in 4-3 - you chose a few non-obvious routes. Non-obviousness is exactly what makes these movies cool :) The 4-4 trick was very clever too.

I have updated the link, http://hiddendragon.sytes.net/Super%20Mario%20Bros.%20(JU)%20(PRG0)%20%5b!%5d.zip Now, it's 5-1 to end of 7-1. This time, a savestate is included, number 0, at the start of 5-1 for loading it at read only.

I'm sure that most of you, if not all, have heard of the infamous "Minus World" glitch in Super Mario Brothers. Specifically, I'm referring to the loop that occurs in the NES version once the exit pipe is reached, returning you to the beginning of the level. It's confirmed (though not recorded) that it is possible to escape the world through killing yourself by running into a Bloober and a Cheep Cheep at the same time, which can occur near the end pipe. Would someone be willing to test and see if this is true? I've never been able to get in there... (...by "test", I mean "make a recording of".) Thank you. I believe someone tested this when it was mentioned earlier, but came up with no results. It seemed like a highly dubious rumor, anyway. I don't see how this would affect something like the minus world glitch. It makes no sense.

Indeed, the whole thing sounded like a made-up rumor, especially considering the lack of a recording. So I tried it myself: Ran into TWO Bloopers and a Cheep Cheep simultaneously, and all I got was killed. (Twice, because I forgot where the Minus World's midpoint was...) I'm pretty sure it's fake... =P

What about trying to do it right at the point where the pipe is?

yea, enter the pipe while getting killed by a cheep-cheep and 2 bloopers when the timer reaches zero.

That reminds me of some "rumor" I once read about Final Fantasy IX -- apparently, talking to 2 million people in Lindblum will trigger a special cut-scene in which Cinna falls off the construction site and dies. I believe it also involved fighting the fat man from the auction house as ultimate boss. They're all made up by two fine fellows named Stetson and Harrison.

Apparently, this secret was "found" by a David Victor Gehrke--an attempt to look up that with the Minus World relation only leads to the Wikipedia information that started this thread, and "David Victor Gehrke" only leads to a review of a fitness book on Amazon. So, is this a hoax?
