Ha, saw that AVGN is now a category on the front page. Well done! I now consider the site a joke! Bye!

Why is it nessescary to plaster his face on a run's page? A list would be just fine but that ugly graphic is not helping anything.

I am in shock that this is actually implemented on some day other than April 1st. I was really liking all the changes going on with the new tier systems and then I see this. What. the. hell? 1. There are many popular reviewers out there. What makes the AVGN so special that he deserves a place on a site completely unrelated to him? 2. What on earth is this category supposed to signify? All I can think of is "bad game" and accordingly "joke TAS" or "freak-show oddity". Yeah, I'm sure TASers of Super Mario Brothers 3 or Battletoads would like their TASes to be labeled as such. I was going to write a long post, but screw it this should be obvious. Show some respect to the TASers and show some respect for the site and remove this nonsensical category.

Well, removing the icon can help then, if we still have a group linked from Special categories, I see no problem. Or let's put this icon in the URL header when the AVGN list is opened.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

What is with all this seriousness all of a sudden? I thought this entire website existed for fun. Since when have we become so serious and grumpy? Can someone give an actual argument why the category should be removed, other than "it's stupid", which is just childish?

What "issue"? There's no "issue" here. Chill out.

Well, we used to have this, as a manual list of TASes of games reviewed by James, no one asked to kill that page, it was sorta cool to see, how the games that owned James have need owned.

I don't see why an entire category should be tied to whether a game is mentioned on some unrelated website. You might as well start adding icons for games featured on SDA. Or one which has a Let's Play done by some other well known person.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

TASVideos is serious business. Now excuse me as I go cry myself to sleep just because they added this category which in no way affects me.

It doesn't say much about the run (especially since most of what AVGN complains about in games are completely avoided by TASes), and AVGN isn't sending traffic here, so it's just a name drop. Since it's a name drop, whether it's good/bad is going to depend entirely on whether people like or don't like AVGN, and not everybody likes him. (I don't really care, personally, but I can see why people who don't like AVGN would be bothered by it)

I thought it was common knowledge that 99.9% of the site users hate him. I find it kinda strange that people quit over stuff like this. I mean, I understand why people would quit for something major like the nazi joke on april fools, but this? 0_o

Good, be sure to making 50 other groups too for every other random person out there, because, apparently, that's what we do now.

Some people DID care about this page, but it was barely maintainable. I'm interested in having a list of "games that owned avgn being owned themselves". Icon is unnecessary, but WHY NOT the group the way it exists now? Is the old manual list so much better?

You're absolutely right, and I expect you to begin grouping every other group that exists out there too.

Mod edit: This post was from a different thread that was merged in here. ---- since the previous thread was locked this will be removed without anyone actually reading it. very sad, because i think you need to read it. so basically you guys really need to get your shit together. TASVideos is known for being a top of the line site for high quality TASes, accepting only seriously well done videos to showcase on their site. this idea was brought to a completely ridiculous extreme, where videos were rejected for game choice and entertainment quality regardless of technical execution. this in itself is fucking retarded but if that is the crazy kind of standard you guys want, whatever. i understand you have tried to move from this with the tier system, which i think was a great decision, though categorizing them was a little strange to me. nothing major. i ask how adding a fucking avgn category will at all help the image of the site that you have fought so hard to keep clean. this serves no purpose to the site, the site's purpose is to show off tool assisted superplay/speedruns, not to show off what games a popular internet personality has played or reviewed. you're simply slapping a face of an internet celebrity onto videos, with no fucking reason other than he's reviewed the game. feel free to tell me that it existed before, which just goes to show you're all fucking avoiding the point here, that it serves no purpose. no one apparently knew of it's existence before, but now it's being put on the game pages. ringrush brought up a great point in the previous topic: what does this say about the great games that have been reviewed by AVGN? battletoads, castlevania 2&3, super mario bros. 3, they are all now grouped into a category that is basically supposed to signify "bad games" or "jokes". i feel that is completely disrespectful to the TASer and will hurt the image of the TAS itself. this is just making a joke out of TASes that were most likely taken very seriously. some in the previous thread claimed it to be "owning the games that owned james" or something. but what does that really mean? avgn never claimed to be a god gamer, it's nothing special that a fucking tas would be able to do better at the game than he did. this to me is nothing more than digging for a reason to support the category. i also saw many in the other thread claiming that the category should not affect anyone and that if they're getting put off by it that the site basically doesn't need their attention. this is not at all a good way to go about running the site. there are already a lot of well known speedrunners and TASers that have expressed their disdain towards the AVGN category, stating or agreeing with statements expressing that the site has lost a lot of credibility for taking such a ridiculous concept so seriously. this is something i think a lot would have expected as an april fool's joke. i don't see how you can consider keeping something on the site that seasoned members would expect as an april fool's joke. i myself have lost any faith i had in tasvideos ever becoming a decent, credible site after this. i was already quite put off by the judging process, and the fact that TASes had been rejected for things such as game choice. i thought you guys were moving forward with the tiers, but it seems like you really went nowhere.

Mod edit: This post was from a different thread that was merged in here. ---- Two things that your post makes me think: 1. The subject of your topic is very badly chosen. 2. I think someone is overreacting. You raise valid points, but you pepper them with what appears to be so much hatred towards the site, that your message may be easily lost. Personally I like the concept of the AVGN tag; it's just an extra tidbit of information for AVGN fans. People who have watched his reviews may want to see what exactly the game is about, and how a perfect player might do. Presentation of the tag might be a completely different thing. It is now elevated into a much more important role than it should be.

Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker but this topic sparked something in me that made me sign up. Just wanna say I love the site! To the people that are against this category, I ask you, why? It's just a silly little thing for the site. It's pretty clear that if you dislike this you're just as stupid as the reasons you claim that this category is invalid. I bet you don't even like AVGN! So what right do you have to say anything about it? To the great, honorable members of TASVideos that uphold this decision, I applaud you! ---------------- I want the AVGN category to become huge! I want people to mainly focus on AVGN and later PewDiePie TASes, leaving the other games behind. This needs to be a main point of the site, how you guys have made videos of games that not only exist, but have actually been acknowleged by PEOPLE that exist! I know that it will increase traffic to the site like crazy. You need that! If the PewDiePie category is made I will definitely tell the Bro army, and then PewDiePie will probably make a hugely popular video about it!!! Imagine the fame you'll get from all of us 15 year olds :)

Yet there's no point in shouting from every page that "TASing is the opposite of seriousness", like that AVGN face icon does.

I used to like avgn a couple years ago, now I'm not that interested. I just voiced the logics that I find valid.
