MKDasher's Comments

Yay, done at last! I didn't start TASing this game that long ago, so I have the least experience, but I really want to thank the rest of the team for letting me join and participate in this great project. It's been a really nice experience for me and I'm hoping that everyone enjoys watching the run as much as we did making it!

Nahoc's Comments

Yo, yo, yo! I must say, like Jeremiah and David, I'm really happy to finally see this completed run in the workbench. I had a blast TASing this awesome game with such awesome people.
I'd like to point out that a big part of this project was done by the Japanese TASers. When they were working on the "120 Stars" TAS, they used to go back a lot to redo and improve earlier stars, since they were working on a "perfect" TAS. We (sonicpacker and myself) got tired of being left aside the project, seeing how slow the progress on it was and decided to go along and do our own TAS. MKDasher later joined us. Not gonna lie, we used a lot of their inputs during the making of this movie (but always with permissions) and "quickly" finished the masterpiece that you're about to watch. Of course, some improvements were found during the 3-month period we worked on the project, but it's nothing too big.
We would like to thank all the Japanese SM64 TASers for their hard work and hope they will be able to improve this movie with a more "perfect" v2. Good luck guys!

sonicpacker's Comments

Well it's about damn time. No, but really, working with the community towards finishing this run has given me the best time of my life and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my teenage years. I've met so many awesome people and have had the best partners to work with. I'm thankful beyond words and I hope everyone that watches the TAS has a great time! I could go on and write a book about it, but I'll let the run speak for itself. And remember, SM64 isn't even near dead. Stay tuned, haha!

Known Improvements

Of course, in every long TAS, even with the highest standards and level of optimization, nothing is ever perfect. Here's a list of the known improvements. Most were discovered when we were already too far into the run to go back. They will be included in a new version made by a different team of TASers.
[dead image link removed]
  • CCM:
    • About 18 frames can be saved on "Frosty Slide for 8 Red Coins".
    • 3 frames lost on "Li'l Penguin Lost".
    • 1 VI/s is savable during the "100 Coins" star.
  • BoB:
    • About 1 second can be saved on the "100 Coins" star with better coins manipulation.
  • WF:
    • "Chip Off Whomp's Block" is improvable by 3 frames.
    • "To the Top of the Fortress" is improvable by 7 frames.
    • 2 frames lost on the "100 Coins" star due to luck manipulation.
  • DDD:
    • 0"30 seconds lost due to random lag.
    • Extra frame lost for better lag manipulation.
  • LLL:
    • 1 frame lost for better luck manipulation.
  • HMC:
  • BBH:
    • 1 frame lost for better luck manipulation.

What I can say... VOTE FOR BEST 2012 TAS! (a.k.a. Yes vote). Still was thinking that's only 8 minutes of improvement.

*does best Sonic impression* Pheeeeew, that was cool! I don't know what the hell happened with the shell in Tiny, Huge Island but that was hands down my favorite part. Treasure in the Ocean Cave is definitely a close second.

10/10 Would watch again Would also vote for the best TAS in 2012. Btw, I think it's still improvable, by far, but hey let the next generation beat it! You have done an amazing work guys, thank you so much!

I'm obviously voting no because my expectations weren't messed with during the THI part. From the 2nd star onward, when Mario leaves the stage, the camera turns right to face the Tiny Island. I was hoping that, at least once, the camera would face the Giant Island, but suddenly, Mario would turn back and still enter the Tiny Island. Wait, if I expected the camera to face the wrong way at least once... does that mean my expectations were still messed with? Guess I'm forced to vote yes. All joking aside, this was a great birthday present! Excellent work! Definitely a shoe-in for TOTY.

Also, I understand almost all the tricks and glitches used in this run, but there is one I didn't really understand... How comes so many Moneybags were spawned in Snowman's Land 100 coins ? Could someone enlighten me, please ?
It's a spawning glitch that when you leave the Moneybags out of the camera, they duplicate because the game understands that there's no left Moneybags. YES FOR SURE, BTW!

Hmmmm... I'm not sure how optimal this is.... also this isn't really a well-known game. Voted yes though to give benefit of the doubt, hopefully these new TASers will go on to do other projects.

I think this run is suboptimal. My extensive research of this game suggests that it can actually be completed by collecting just 70 stars, so this run collects 50 too many. Regardless, it looks well done, so I'm voting yes.

Wow, that's a nice find you have there. Collecting 100% of items by collecting just 58% of them? You must have found an OOT-esque memory corruption glitch which could lead to epic amounts of time saving. Please do share. Yes, I'm aware this is (most probably) a joke.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

I think that about sums it up. 2,136,942 rerecords... is that a record?? Voting no because it completes the game instead of overwriting it with MLP.

I think so, but if something has more rerecords it will probably have used brute forcing for part of it. Edit: http://tasvideos.org/3570S.html has the most (5,425,978) so this run would be second.
