(Link to video)
The challenge is to finish the first challenging stage as quickly as possible.
Getting captured takes so long that it has no use at all...
For the rest it's indeed a matter of spending bullets wisely in time.
UPDATE: I completely missed that I had a missed shot in my previous run... so updated with an improved version.

Noxxa: Replaced submission file with an improved version by the author.
Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Accepting for the vault.

Ilari: Dumped, encoding.

I suppose this is an endless game that just repeats after stage three?

Yeah, more or less. I think the goal I used makes sure the run is not too repetitive and is something nice to achieve. Going further is just 'more of the same'. It's not exactly the same though, e.g. challenging stage 2 is different than 1. But going further would make it boring, IMHO.

When does it repeat? Also, how different is stage 2 compared to 1? (I've never played this game before).

Here's a video of challenging stage 2 (which is just stage 7): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wtmcGbxKYL4#t=226s I don't know exactly where it repeats.

Darn, you're right about the missed shot... I improved the movie, new upload in my user files. Staff, please replace the movie with the newly uploaded one. I updated the submission post with a new YouTube video of that run.

Done.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

This movie has been published. The posts before this message apply to the submission, and posts after this message apply to the published movie. ---- [2283] MSX Galaga "Perfect first challenging stage" by Quibus in 00:55.68

Hmm, the encode of the published movie is wrong. It's an encode of the first entry, with the missed shot... Can some publisher please replace the encode with a new one based on the actual movie?

MSX, ouch! Can you make a lossless dump?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Yes, it's described on the website how it's done: http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/VideoDumping.html#Openmsx

So you can't, right?

So, I describe how it's done and you conclude it can't be done? I find that very confusing.

You've probably missed the part where I HATE OPENMSX. So I wanted you, as a person who's interested, to help me with getting the dump done without me actually touching this emu, because I HATE IT.

Don't worry. feos will learn to love it and use it just like he learned to love pcsx-rr. I'll see if I can do MSX if not I'll just strike-through this line in an edit.

If necessary: I still have the video here which I uploaded to YouTube with the submission, which was recorded with openMSX (and thus lossless). It's 13MB and I could easily send it via IRC. feos: if there's something we can do to improve openMSX to comfort you, let us know :P
