Hi
I'm newbie and learning TAS Rules. I have some questions:
- the record result only take from movie file. So, if I have good play and faster but I have slower when stop movie, then my record slower ?
- I saw some tutorials for edit movie around here, remove some spill frames. But it's only for who had good technology knowledge. Example me, just a gamer want make TAS, then am I need go learn computer knowledge before make TAS? So hard for newbie want come to TAS
- The TAS Rules need rom (E)/(U)/(J), then how about with (A)/(F)/(Unl)/etc ?
- Sometimes TAS Rules want fastest records, sometimes just want see bugs/tricks game. Then I don't know what can I do for record. For make record, it take alot player times, days or months, but finally it got rejected because blah blah blah.... Examples fighting game records, almost TAS have bugs/tricks but not fastest. Hard for understand :(
Please tech me, I need understand about TAS

If it's not a mistake, it's the author's choice.
Some TASers like to stop input earlier than intended and let the game finish by itself (it involves deep planning to set this up).

Sometimes it is chosen to stop a movie a bit later, but help the game finish faster this way.

The TASing itself is rather hard work considering the quality level it is at now. But to edit your movie you don't need to know programming or something. Just use a text editor like Notepad++ and copy/paste your inputs as you wish. However, there are specific tools for movie editing:
TAS Movie Editor - external tool supporting many formats, doesn't allow to preview your movie.
FCEUX TASEditor - internal tool of FCEUX emulator, you watch your movie and make edits at the same time, seeing the result.
(U) is our default choice, (J) and (E) are rare. (Unl) means it's an unlicensed game, which is still acceptable if there is no release version of it.

There are 2 tiers, movies are published to one of them. Vault can accept fastest possible records, boring movies are okay, but only 2 goal options are allowed: fastest completion (any%) and full completion (100%/best ending).
Mooons are published to if a movie gets a really good viewer feedback. But the goal choice is up to author, anything people really enjoy can be accepted.

Thanks your replied !
But I have a old record: http://tasvideos.org/2293S.html
I tried make beat game fastest. But it got rejected because all voter told it's so boring. Omg, it's boring but it's fast. That's why I can't understand about TAS

After the Vault was introduced, such a run seems to need rejudging I guess. Many runs were rejected due to being boring formerly, but now there is quite some chance for such.

This is why we have Games section on forum. Post WIPs there and view what people think of your progress.

Also, don't forget that tasvideos as designed is not meant to hold all TASes that could possibly be made for every single game, but only a collection of TASes that are both 1) very well optimized and 2) have some merit as judged by the community otherwise. So not every possible TAS will go on this site because it's not designed that way.

If it is only cosmetic and does not influence gameplay, then yes, it is allowed. Otherwise, no.

can you example for me what for yes and what for no?
example, if I have use key inpud for use secret characters with new skills, is it ok?
example with megaman x4, if I use keys inpud for play Black Zero is ok? but if use Ultimate X isn't ok?

I'm not sure. It depends on what kind of game you are playing, and what kind of run you are making. If you are doing a playaround for, say, a fighting game, then secret characters are usually okay. Otherwise, if it's only for speed, I don't think it's allowed.
Yes, exactly. Black Zero in Mega Man X4 is okay, because it only changes his appearance. X's Ultimate Armor is not okay, because it affects his abilities.

Sorry I have another question
If in a run have some bugs I can't do with myself because I'm too bad, then I'll use TAS Editor and copy frames from someone did it. It's just not fair, but for a cool movie I need do it. Then is it accept by TAS ?

It is okay to do for a speed based segments, but copying someone's entertaining actions is really not okay.

Even for speed, you can't just outright copy large amounts of input from other people's work. At least, not without permission from the original author.

Some glitches only work at very specific conditions. Make sure you know those conditions, in order to make a glitch work. Mainly glitches which are depending on subpixels have different possibilities of input how they can be executed.
All input files are creative commons licensed, which means you are allowed to use input others did. But you should credit the authors as co-authors of your run, if you did massivly copy-pasting, cause it wasn't all of your work alone.

It's impossible to NOT USE the existing solution by someone else if you can't improve it and don't want to lose before it.

Copying input is not the same as copying a solution.

And I think otherwise. People can borrow and repeat someone else's jokes and antics (ideas on how to entertain) without asking.
If it is a speedrun beating someone else's old record, I would prefer to see at least the same level of entertainment. Instead of having a decrease in entertainment because the game only allows a very limited set of entertainment options (without losing speed), and because the new author was too shy to borrow the old author's dances (instead resorting to usual Left-Right twitching or simply staying still).

Technically speaking, copypasting just everything is allowed due to the licence agreement we once already discussed. It's only a matter of respect and aim. Even speed oriented input can be done by yourself, this was you can find an improvement.

my god, to many things...
I have another question. I' trying using Fceux's TASEditor. But it made my movie file have large file size, more than 30MB .Same that but with BizHawk's TASEditor only have around 200KB. I don't know why. How can reduce movie file size by Fceux's TASEditor
I have done a new TAS, but now I have problem with file size :(
I have another question
How can easy use TASEditor/TASStudio/etc in SNES/PSX Emulator like TASEditor in Fceux? I mean write/re-write keys input and save/load frames easy and quickly. Or any way for make them?
