It's great to hear more people can learn about tool-assisted speedruns. If we ever had the time in the future I would enjoy seeing one of the longer super mario world runs (if they would sync) however some would take too much time. Also great job on the SNES verification, that is just flat out awesome! Can't wait till next year with even more TASes at AGDQ! Good luck on your $10,000 goal. Edit: I would also like to see the SNES Super Mario Kart TAS, but that also would take up a lot of time. But it would be interesting nonetheless.

Damn, I live in the wrong time zone. Most of the games that most interest me (Bioshock, Deus Ex, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Final Doom, Doom 1/2, HL, HL2, Portal, Portal 2) are run in the middle of the night... :/ (Yeah, I know I can watch the archived streams, but it just doesn't have the same feeling as watching live...)

Had to wake up at 4am for Jak and Dexter, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. Have to wake up at 6am for Yoshi's Island. 7am for VVVVVV. Need to stay up at 1am for Pokemon Soul Silver and again for Paper Mario. Heck I think I'm not home from Friday to Sunday so I'm missing out on Paper Mario and Pokemon anyway.

What's with the site at this moment? Apparently it has been down for hours. Some people commented at the twitch.tv chat something about a DDoS attack, but it might just have been a wild conjecture. The DDoS was on the French restream. Then the French viewers went on the German chat and Germench community was born.

seems that if the TASBot would have a monitor to keep track of clock speeds it could adjust itself dynamically based on random lag etc....

It already synchronizes to polling from console (which on NES often allows compensating lag) and optionally also to VSYNC signal from console. Unfortunately, this doesn't help on SNES, because most games have the console poll. Yes, there is top-notch accurate SNES emulation, but that won't help with initial state affecting lag. :-/ Although TASBot does not do N64, the same syncing to polls is the reason why some N64 runs have been verified, even if emulator accuracy is pretty much total garbage.

It depends on the game if it is consistent or very random. - Super Mario World has consistent initial lag. - Speedy Gonzales has quite random lag. It only sometimes even gets to the first level (and then desyncs quickly).

Emulator accuracy is quite horrible yes. is the inital state lag of the SNES constant or very random. I know lag is random but if there some consitency it may be easier to compensate for it. Forgive me if im all wrong ive only started off in TASing and emulation.

The actual problem here is bit subtle: The problem is not determining how much lag would occur under given conditions (accurate SNES emulation), but that SNES initial state is random and in some games that affects lag. And thanks to automatic polling, there is no known method to compensate for lag that varies with initial state.

in an ideal world. a Reference frame could be fed in to resync but then you would need to have the emulator running and scanning every frame to determine which one the console is at....... the analoginess of the signal makes this impossible. and honestly would be wayyyyyyyy too much work.

Another crazy idea would be to monitor the address bus between SNES and cartridge. One could determine the lag from that and poll signals. Problem is, that address bus runs at several megahertz... Oh, I have also seen "not quite lag". Basically, the game is doing operations on background that take variable number of frames and don't freeze the action. And if AI of something waits for such operation to complete, the duration can react with the AI in major ways (In one case, I saw few frames caused some actions to slow by over half a second!).

Nope. Just have followed it a lot (and dealt with emulator side of things, including adding necessary features, and fixing bugs).
