Alright guys, I promised the worlds would be done faster this time (at least.. compared to Corneria anyhow) so here is the checkpoint of Meteo! I'm comparing my run to the 508 run hosted on the superplayers.de site, and am currently holding a +40 lead vs the expert run. The part at the checkpoint isn't actually optimized, so my lead is mostly liked to extend back to a +42 or so lead. Some things to keep in mind is that Meteo is insanely hard. There's way too much stuff to shoot, and I miss about 3 asteroids in the opening 5 seconds because there's too much to shoot at. The expert run has a few more enemies, otherwise I'd be having a +53 lead or so, but oh well. I'm expecting to break 600 easy, but 620 is probably going to be the upper limit. Input, comments, and feedback is always welcome! PS: I didn't want to make the viewer bored, so I put in some seizure-causing moments. ^^ Edit: Oh, forgot one more thing. Corneria's boss is redone, destroying both left (boss's right) missile bays in one go.

Looking great... I didn't know you could just fire charged shots at some objects for free points. I liked how you had 74 hits after about ten seconds of play in the level. Keep going, this is probably what Im most looking forward to seeing completed (apart from what I'm, allegedly, working on myself).

I liked it. The boss was faster, looked much nicer. In Meteo are there more meteors/enemies you can hit? I constantly get the feeling that this is impressive but that I see potential targets that are missed

At the beginning was already explained, the other meteors give no hits/undestroyable. The boosting is fine ;)

Nice to hear that you resume your high score run :). Btw. I am currently doing some Star Fox 64 tool-assisted speedrunning and a low score run just for fun. Oh, I've done a nice Excel table just for fun of all 25 possible routes and their max. high score for each planet (3 tables: usa, europe only / japan only / worldwide combined). Tool-Assisted scores are not included right now! To prevent confusion: I calculated 40 hits for the SX -> SZ route and 20 hits for the ZO -> SZ route off from the current record. Simply because there are no high scores for this routes, just round about. Here's the link: http://www.superplayers.de/other/sf64/sf64_highscores.xls

Why is ZO worth less going to MA than to SZ? To keep up the path to SZ, you have to hit all the lights, conveniently netting +2 for each one over letting one spot you (and +4 over the one that actually spots you). There should be no difference, since you can destroy all the lights and change path to MA anyway.

Not quite sure what you're trying to ask, but Zoness can net around 450~ hits compared to Sector X's 331. Top in the fact that Aquas' record is 362 compared to Katina's 317, Sector Y is probably the choice to take if you think you can keep the gap between Meteo and Sector Y (which is only about 120 or so) relatively "small". As for actual progress of this run, I have temporarily taken a break because I've gotten very frustrated with my playing. Meteo can be optimized so much more but I've just been really stressed out with work/school/gym/dance stuff that I haven't really had much time to work on the run. I've gotten a little bit more time now, so I will probably start again sometime soon. Meteo is currently clocked in at a +5x lead, and I hope to extend this to +100 so I can break the 600 mark. To the questions earlier regarded on optimization, it is VERY hard to reply accurately as my run has been focused more on getting hit bonuses than actually just shooting asteroids. Since Meteo is a enemy/asteroid-dense level, I have to balance shooting things with milking bonuses out of things. This explains why I don't shoot some asteroids, as I opt for the more advantangeous ones that give me "more" hits. If I didn't do this, I'd have to use bombs and fiddle with them for a long time, which is fine I suppose but I'll run out of bombs very fast and this may pose as a problem later on in the warp area and in the following map Katina. Also, the asteroids DO move around so what may have been a +3 hit bonus may just be a +1 bonus later, so I must utilize braking/boosting (I highly doubt boosting will work as I want as MUCH time as possible on every single asteroid/enemy) which is yet another manifestation of kill everything vs go for "more". =/ In any case, I'm actually working on an essay at the moment so I will cut this post short. If you have any feedback, questions, or anything that concerns me or this run, you can contact me on IRC #nesvideos or #engrish on the freenode server. =] rawr D:

After much brooding over (actually, more like 5 minutes worth) I have been convinced by some people that.. <JXQ> if you have fun redoing the run then do it <JXQ> fuck what others think <DK64_MASTER> yeah <meepers> rawr then its settled! <DK64_MASTER> :D <JXQ> some will hate it and some will love it, that's how it goes * meepers will redo Corneria <JXQ> *fanfare* * DK64_MASTER blows horn (conversation SLIGHTLY editted.. but I'm sure JXQ won't mind me twisting his words a wee bit) That's right everyone! I'm following a "No Hit Left Behind" policy and expect to follow it religiously until this run is finished, meaning I will redo a stage if I feel it can get more hits. I also doubt anyone will ever attempt this game after me, so I want to beat this SF64 thoroughly enough that the game is indeed perfectly optimized. With that said, Corneria should be redone in a week (or even less if I have more time!) and I will begin testing on Meteo and the usage of bombs to fully get as many hits as possible, hopefully going to back where I am at the secret gate warp with a +10~ hit lead (3 from Corneria, and 7 more from optimizing the asteroid fields). =] Any screams of "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?!?" or name-calling/insulting should be directed at "meepers" in the #engrish / #nesvideos channel. ^^;

What I'm asking isn't the difference between Zoness and Sector X, but between the two paths from Zoness. On the paths leading to Sector Z, Zoness is listed at a certain value, but on the paths leading to Macbeth, it has a higher value, when it seems they should be equal (instead of letting a searchlight fail and losing points on it, shoot them all as though you're going to SZ, then switch path if you want Macbeth--missing searchlights definitely shouldn't make the score higher).

If you're referring to that excel file, you'll have to ask the creator of it. Don't shoot the runner. =]

To get to Sector Z, you have to hit all lights on Zoness. But if you miss a certain light, so that the light "sees" you, more enemies will appear later in the level. So instead of getting the 2 hits from the light, you get more hits later if you miss this one light. However, when you miss this light, you can't go to Sector Z anymore. That's why there is a difference between some paths.

You probably think that our reaction would be something like "OH NOES SHE IS RESTARTING AGAIN!", but it is more like this:

Am patient. Am amazed at perfecting perfection. I totally agree that if Vidar is going to do this, it should be done perfectly.

Does that mean that going along the Red route until Macbeth is the route to go to get the best score? If so, and you are going for a high score run, why do you go to meteo? Are you not saying that the loss in points from going to SectorY instead can be made up from Aquas and Zoness? Anyway great run thus far, and power to you for redoing for perfection in Corneria.

I just talked with Vidar a week or so ago (hope you don't mind me mentioning this here), and Sin and Punishment has kidnapped her attention. so in essence, this run is 'up for grabs'. For anyone that wants to try this: Corneria can be improved, so it'd be a good idea to start there. talk with Vidar about where she thought she could imrove the score It's a very difficult game to TAS, so keep that in mind. lots of stuff going on and things to shoot. I've thought about what turbo boosting and braking looks like in this game, so I'm going to try that to see if it affects braking or boosting significantly. For each part that Vidar hit the brakes to bilk out points on the empty ground or buildings, try to brake first from further away and start shooting that area and then break again right next to it; you could potentially get 2-3 more hits in that way. Good luck to anyone brave enough to try it!

If there is a 100% TAS being made of this. I think it should fight Andross all three times, instead of just resetting back to the beginning. Which can be done after Andross anyway. Just putting my input out there. ;3

I just think normal high score is the only run that's needed. Vidar's gotten higher scores than hard mode, and 100% is boring because boosting through the game takes ~30 minutes with the fastest route, and doing that 3 times is tedious; and most importantly, shooting eveything in sight is WAY more entertaining than fastest time. I tested turbo C buttons... and boosting works much better with fast use of C more than braking, unfortunately. turbo buttons actually do precious little to none in this game- turbo firing, turbo C, all does not register.

I watch the Starfox64 all Level run and the plackback is good. To make the movie good without desync, match the status following by the movie. And make sure you match the Emulator, otherwise it will desync. Use the Rom Star Fox 64 (U) (V1.0) [!].z64, because the movie playback for the run is good. Try to submit the Starfox 64 run. When you start the Star Fox 64 Run, you can't skip intro when never seen. If you find the save game for Star Fox 64 that can get expert option, skip intro and try recording from now, that count as Start from Predefined Save. Read the Rules http://tasvideos.org/Rules.html above. You can start the time when the Mission Start, you can stop the time when the Mission End by defeating the Bosses or when the warp ends. This TAS aims for highest score, and the SDA run aims for fastest time, so they won't help much.

I honestly do not know what this post is trying to accomplish. I'm as confused as a newborn calf. The first third is telling us how to watch Star Fox 64 .m64's, which we know how to do. The next part seems like instructions on how to submit and what rules to follow, which are different for this site and are already known: start from power on, play through whole game, end input at end of run. and the last third of the post is a link to the SDA runs that do not help the TAS of this game since there are different modes available and different goals. I don't know whether to be amused or irritated.

Try to submit the movie that try to Aim for Fastest Time over Brett Ables, or Aim for High Score from N64HighScore Geocities website http://geocities.com/n64highscores/StarFox64.html.
