Nangosan has worked on his SF64 TAS lately, here are his new vids: Corneria - 377 hits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gqrmGWpwAs Aquas - 476 hits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBBwLUY22bo Zoness - 520 hits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR5TFrLRkMM I am looking forward and I hope more than 3300 hits can be reached with about MacBeth - 300+ hits, Area 6 - 770+ hits and Venom hard - 300+ hits! @comicalflop There are only a few level where a death after the checkpoint results into respawning enemies, every pro uses this technique. Nobody calls it cheating.

I dunno what to think of nangosan.... he seems to be making these very quick, and I'm constantly noticing missed enemies, and missed opportunities to maximize score. I just can't help but think when watching his work is that it's rushed and sloppy. That, and the vids are not as entertaining as they could be. lots of times he flies straight until the next enemy spawns, has no "flair", and does many fast spastic movements that do not look visually appealing. So once Vidar and I can finally get to work on this, expect better and more entertaining results. He's done good work no doubt, and provided good benchmarks and found ways to prove the red line will net the highest score, but has not brought the game to its max.

Uhm well, where did he miss enemies? He may miss some hit+1 but Vidar's first Corneria run for example wasn't flawless too! His playing style is very entertaining to me, precise and quick movement ...flying all over the screen wouldn't look very skilled in my opinion. ...And at least someone is working on it who also has knowledge about the game!

He probably hasn't seen my Corneria run before, since there's 2-3 tricks he could've used to help him get a few +1s. His run also has a few things I didn't know about either, so I'll be working on a translation to explain to him about the techniques I discovered that will help. Or just give him a link and have him take a look at it.

... um.. Thanks? I revised it after you told me what was wrong with it and experimented with some things to help optimise my score. I'm sure nangosan can also revise his after I show him my video or explain to him what he missed. With our POWERS COMBINED... WE'LL BREAK 340 ON NORMAL (hopefully)

The reason I fly around the screen is because I get bored easily and there's this voice in my head that tells me to barrel roll. ALL. THE. TIME. ¬¬

I'm still working on it, but it's not at a very serious pace since I mostly try and optimise Meteo. As a side question, how many more enemies are there in Corneria when it's on expert mode? He gets 377, while I get 337. A difference of 40 points, or 20 enemies with their hit bonus. However, since he missed a few points (mostly the ones that came from setting off triggers), I'm not sure what the actual difference is.

I'm having some wierd problem with this. Without a movie, it plays relatively normally, but when I play the WIP, the screen stays black for the entirety of the movie. Don't know why. The plugins are the same except for the controller plugin. Anyone got any hints on what could be wrong?

That isn't any different that using checkpoint abuse in order to get a lower ingame time in Sonic 3, it decieves people into thinking it was all achived on a single playthrough when it was more of a stop start affair.

Just wanted to say that I really like the 337 Corneria run and look forward to the rest of the TAS (and if you can make all 4 run throughs enjoyable all the more power to ya). Keep up the good work!

I started a Starfox 64 TAS of full game from power on. I have completed the first level and I want to know what you guys think. Let me know if there is anything that can be improved. Thanks. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1626376896/STARFOX64%20%28USA%29.m64

You made many, many major mistakes. I'm sorry, but it's not even close to being comparable to meepers' finished Corneria, nor hers/my .m64. To get a sense of why this is, you need to have watched her movie. She gets a score of 337 on Corneria, you didn't even get half that. The reaosn is that you need to use Charged Up Shots to hit an enemy or group of enemies with the blast radius of the CUS, nit a direct hit. This nets +2 points per hit, unlike the +1 per hit you were getting. She was also making better ship spawns, and milking points out of the robots. You also missed many, many enemy ships. 363 rerecords isn't even enough for 30 seconds of gameplay. My .m64 has 3,000 once it reaches the first robot; meepers' redid Corneria so many times that the number of rerecords probably exceeded over 10k. So it's a good attempt, but nowhere close to the quality that this site is looking for/used to. You can certainly keep trying. Download the two .m64's of Corneria (mine and meepers') watch what we do, and see if you can match that.

I'm a little confused. Would you mind explaining how you spawn ships? Thanks.

Certainly. You can make more enemies appear by going off the beaten path and doing something, like go through an archway, or slip around a building, etc. There are a few of these "sweet spawn spots" that score runners go to to make more enemies. Archways, holes, buildings, obstacles, which of your teammates are dead; these can all trigger more enemies to appear on the screen. You just have to go out, find them, and know to do a certain something/go a certain someplace, and kill the ships that appear.

I'm feeling nice today so, Meeper's .M64 Meeper's .avi comicalflop's .M64 It's probably worthwhile to read this entire thread too. There are many links to existing world-records which reveal many ways to get more hits. Cheers.

Hi IXRAYI, glad to see you're TASing this. If there's anything you'd like to know, just go ahead and ask here. I'll do my best to answer it. Take a look at those links ledauphinbenoit linked you, they will (hopefully) be helpful to you in your endeavours. I wish you luck :)

Excellent job w/ Corneria Meepers! I was thoroughly impressed throughout. Didn't watch yours yet CF, but I will tomorrow to see what's different. Keep up the good work.

It should be noted that my .m64 is incomplete, it stops just before the 1t robot is reached. The score isn't improved any (I hadn't reached any score improving sections yet) but it's more technically precise, and is faster, because I entered Corneria optimally and I boosted more. Besides that, not much is different besides how I go about doing things.

Meeper's .m64 of Corneria was well performed and entertaining to watch.

Well, since we're here, I might as well mention this for future TASes of this game. One time, I was playing through normally, and was on Venom 2. I forgot what I did beforehand, but when Star Wolf showed up, I shot wildly into the air, and somehow managed to hit Pigma, killing him instantly. I haven't been able to reproduce it. Maybe you guys can?

Just press Start when the cinema starts ("Can't let you do that Starfox!" for Wolf1 for example), you get control of the Airwing and can shoot them freely.

Can someone share meepers's AVI somewhere else? I get an "unexpected end of archive" error every time I try to open it.
