Here's the RTA WR, for reference http://www.twitch.tv/themexicanrunner/c/3921148 It's on easy though, I assume a TAS will play on hard.

I didn't see a difficulty select. I can change that if I find it.

I never got a reply on SDA, so I'll ask here. There's a shortcut that skips the first rock chase part in Simba's Exile. What gives, is this just a Genesis-only thing, or am I the only human alive that knows about it?

Seems like you didn't get a reply here either, Espyo... I was surprised that the current TAS didn't take that route, I just assumed that it was slower for whatever reason. Anyway. I recently started TASing this game as a promise for TheMexicanRunner. So far I've only completed the first level: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/16775695368019943 There are a couple of differences between the SNES and Genesis versions. When I started it, I wanted to use SNES just because of better sound/music, but I'm noticing a few things that differ. 1. Takes longer to reach the Title Screen in Genesis. 2. The options menu is faster in Genesis. 3. I believe Simba's hitbox is different. There's a specific jump in the first level where Simba will hit the ceiling easier than in Genesis, wastes some time in the TAS. 4. The Hyena attacks at once in Genesis instead of waiting. 5. Simba falls longer at the start of Graveyard in Genesis. Most certainly a lot more, just what I have spotted while fooling around.

It wastes time because at the end of that shortcut there's an unavoidable bonus stage bug and even instantly failing the bonus stage takes longer than just going the regular route

Oh! I knew there had to be a reason to miss the shortcut! Anyway, that ostrich is really buggy, isn't it? First, it gets two necks when the ride is over, now this. Wasn't there a third glitch too?

There are many glitches with the ostrich. You can land on run on the ground both with and without the Ostrich (Without being on it). In both cases you'll end up stuck because of an invisible wall. Another thing is that you can jump back into the area after the ostrichs throws you off. You'll then be stuck in a short section, no hippos or nests. I also found a glitch with the rhinos: http://www.mediafire.com/download/r96p1b1udnbt4du/Rhino+Glitch.bk2. this could have potential in the level, to land on above platforms or to reach the end of the level without the monkeys helping you. The problem is that the only thing you can land on are the giraffes' heads. Everything else you'll just fall through... And it is too far to reach the end of the level from the last rhino. You can also do the glitch after grabbing the tail of the rhino and do the jump from there, the effect is practically the same. In the Graveyard it is possible to get up to the upper area early by using the vultures. But the enemies up there won't load until you have activated the water pillars. Which means running back to the far right, falling down to activate them and then jump back up, and this is slower to do. And you need to properly load the upper area so that you can kill the hyenas in the end for the final wall to break. Oh well... And also, I finished the second level for the TAS: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/16861779151735015

A new clip was recently found in the level Be Prepared that would save a minute in a TAS. Can be seen here in the latest RTA WR: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/280175367?t=9m37s I currently don't have any plans to redo the TAS however, just posting here for general documentation if anyone wishes to improve it.

this is probably not very optimized but this is what I was able to do to get that skip. Link to video

Since the only relevant differences in hard mode is boss health being larger, I wonder if it’s worth it to play the tas in easy mode or default mode rather than hard mode. Is there any obligations to this? I want to make sure people are cool with it before I attempt this.

Actually it is a good question. Long repetetive fights against hyenas is not too interesting. So guidelines justify choice of easy mode for such cases. Of course not everyone will be happy with this, "be prepare" to recive a several no votes from them. But logic is on your side => go easy. P.S. Also take Genesis version pleeeeease!
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

Actually I wouldn’t mind checking out the genesis version, but was holding off on it because you were planning on improving it yourself. Edit: also I would have asked if you wanted to work on it together but didn’t know if converting between gens and bizhawk would be easy.

Yes ineeed i wanted to improve genesis one day (next year or so). But if you want to take it now i will be really happy to pass this project to you. Gens/BH convertion is not so good for this game due to slightly different lags... so cooperation seems not real for us (we do not want to suffer with infinite re-synchr pain.) I belive that you can complete this project with highest quality standard enough even without me :) Good luck at becoming king!

I’ll happily try it out! Since I’ve gotten some better experience with the SMS and that one bootleg game, despite being different games have very simmilar movements. So i will definitely try it out. I’ll be posting the making in the other thread so the least you could do is give some suggestions! Thanks!!!
