It's a Star Wars TAS. Unfortunately being for Atari, it's much more lackluster than expected.

Game objectives

  • Beats the first round
  • Minor luck manipulation

Comments

Well, I completed a TAS of this game a while ago, and was reluctant to submit it due to the fact most TAS's of this nature reaches the next level of difficulty, while this one doesn't - I'll explain below.

Stage comments

Space

The number of ships to kill before the black hole opens is determined by 0x0050. That value increases by 1 every 10,000 points, which can be interpreted as an increase in difficulty. Now the reason why I don't just stop the movie at fastest 5,000 points is because that would be destroying 2 death stars + destroy 3 green ships (worth 3,000 points). IMO that adds nothing new to the overall movie, so I don't do that.

Lasers are Fun and Good for You Death Star

That green dot has a timer at 0x004F which at zero causes it to become aggressive and fire at you. I found out that it's faster to shoot at the Death Star at the sides from an angle than up front. The orange dot only needs to be shot once for the stage to be over.

I like the short length, the fact that it's an A2600 game, and the thinking that went into it. Yes vote from me.

I enjoyed this movie in which hands firmly gripping a shaft lead to balls deep in multiple holes.

To clarify, the title of the game is Star Wars Return of the Jedi Death Star Battle This is not to be confused with "Star Wars The Arcade Game" which also features a Death Star battle (against a more complete Death Star).

Huh. So it is. I'll change it now. Thanks!

I watched before reading any submission notes. I found this to be interesting because I didn't realize Atari 2600 graphics could be this good. The fly-in at the beginning looked genuinely 3D. It's over quick, sure, but I was entertained. Yes vote. A.C. ******

Seconded, that and the starfield animation were surpisingly immersive given the console.
