This is a TAS of the second Mario game where he felt (this game came before Super Mario Bros. out). There is a speed run up to and including the 20 phase of the game.
Here i`do use the jump glitch that make mario jump higher or faster. Time to do the TAS 1-2 h. Me was trying to do that really fast. Hope you enjoy :) By ScienenceFX

Noxxa: Hello ScienenceFX, and welcome to TASVideos. Unfortunately, your run is not up to the standards of the site, and breaks a few rules:
  • It is quite suboptimal, and can be improved a lot. This is demonstrated by some members in the submission thread. With some testing of my own, I concluded that on the first "Test your skill" stage, it is possible without much effort to get the timer to stop at 7.2s, whereas your run gets a time of 5.8s - a loss of 1.4 seconds on a minigame that lasts less than 15 seconds. This is way too much to be acceptable on the site.
  • The goal choice seems quite arbitrary, as there are more phases after the 20th. Reportedly, the game ends in a loop at phase 99, so a run eligible for the Vault should make it up to and complete that round.
  • The run uses the Mario Bros. Classic rerelease from Europe, which seems to have no merits over the traditional version aside from some extra screens showing off the enemies. It is generally preferred to use a NTSC (USA/Japan) release if available. See: Movie Rules - Use the correct version
  • The movie also has the PAL flag unchecked, which causes the game to run 20% faster than it normally would. This breaks the rule that the region settings must be correct
  • This game can be cleared much faster with 2 players, so it is practically a requirement to use 2 players for a Mario Bros. run to be publishable on the site.
Because of these reasons, I'm rejecting your run.

Ok guys , i will make a TAS of Classic Mario Bros. of all 99 Levels . What do you think ?

Not particularly entertaining. Beyond that, I haven't played this game but movement also "feels" sub optimal...not crisp and controlled as you would expect from a TAS. That might be how the game functions; I don't know

Sloppy input is sloppy. No vote. Can someone validate a better route for "Test your Skill" please. A faster route looks like it can be done the movement of this TAS is very lacking. You attacking the enemies is very poor. Finally that re-record count is low. Since I cannot attack this TAS due to lack of resources I cannot pin-point a true ending for this game. 20 sounds either too much or too little. Is it because that's the last level before a loop? I don't know. On top of all that there is an NTSC version of this game titled "Mario Bros.". edit: and now I have a proper keyboard infront of me. Game A, ey? With this existing it makes it much easier for me to say No towards this TAS.

Also, it seems that the PAL Flag in the .fm2 isn't set on (which makes the TAS look shorter than it's supposed to be). This isn't something that is unset by accident, as far as I know. EDIT: Here is the .fm2 with the PAL Flag on.

In addition to what others said: Why are you using the GBA version? Classic NES is basically virtual console on a cartridge. Use this ROM: Mario Bros. (U) [!].nes I think this is a good game choice but unfortunately I'll have to hold my vote. P.S. Welcome to TASVideos!

I found the ROM used here in the same GoodMerged set as that one, so I imagine the answer is "yes."

Desyncs almost immediately. And I was wondering about that; I thought the sound was off.

Then that pretty much invalidates the movie in my opinion.

Just noticed something. The "Classic" version has a 3 frame wait for Mario it also allows the player to use the B button to skip the cutscenes. The Original NES version you have to wait a total amount of 263 frames and a 176 frame wait after finishing and a stage and 3 frames added for every stage (The 263 frame wait only happens once). The "Classic" version you can hit the opposite direction at any time and Mario flip the other way in an instance. The Original NES version you slide for a set number of frames before next input. But what kills the "Classic" version is that it is a port of the Arcade game and should be an Arcade TAS not a NES TAS. That's just my thoughts, anyone can jump on it and attack my thoughts or expand on it if they like. Edit: Because this is back I should point something out that we said several times. The issue with your TAS right now is that it's 60hz. PAL is 50hz.

Nice of you to come back, but... ...you might want to cancel it. Oh NTSC and PAL timers? Okay since I didn't want to be exact in the lua they are 60fps and 50fps respectively (universal NTSC and PAL). Since you were using NTSC I thought it would be best to get your time converted correctly. While I was there I did it to my one too only backwards, I'm PAL I added the NTSC timer to mine. For those who wants to know how far this is. This is the end of Phase 3, I am at frame 2796 and ScienenceFX is at frame 2897. Edit: I corrected it with NES fps so this is what it says about your time. Final Input: 27009 PAL = 10:40.01 NTSC = 07:28.70 Final Frame: 27138 PAL = 10:42.61 NTSC = 07:30.86 TASVideos fps is different. Edit 2: Caught Ya. The European version has extra "Phases" to that of the World (NTSC) version.

Yup, I did it. 8.5 seconds were left on the clock (Note this is the first "Test your Skill" round, I haven't TASed the later ones). It had 689 rerecords. Also it was done on (U) region version and it was NES. Link to video User movie #14701173277096573

In that case if I did it on the Classic NES (i.e. GBA) version it might be a little faster...

The PAL version is far superior to the original NTSC version, since it has bigger sprites for enemies, and Mario can change direction in midair. This version also got a Japanese release on the FDS.

Finally going to mention one more thing. The PAL version of this game (aka this TAS) the maximum amount of Phases before a loop is 23. Now here's where we have fun. The NTSC version has a total of 13 Phases before it loops. What does this mean? Well, this TAS is 3 Phases too short. Would this game's PAL version be acceptable and also the NTSC version as 2 different branches to one another. With what I just typed I'm also stating this could actually be a total of 3 branches if both 13 and 23 Phases are allowed. So in branching it would be "13 Phases", "23 Phases" and "99 Phases" But that's a concept I have to ask everyone. Anyways the question: Would 3 different branches be acceptable for this game? Edit: Mentioning this now, because of something which happened on IRC. I have checked the NTSC version with Game B and 2 Players. The PAL version was validated with this Game A, 1 player. So yea, if someone wants to check if PAL Game B is the same as what I wrote above (23) go nuts... and I will add an extra point for NTSC's sake, if I'm incorrect about the amount of phases and where it loops it would be up to phase 18 before the loop.
