About some settings of this game

All the bosses have their level, when fight to him, a high level will give them more HP. Boss’s level depends on each character’s rank and how many hours passed. When you play in each stage, no matter death or not, if you don’t continue or finish a stage, time will pass an hour. After finishing a stage, your character will get a rank. Only 8 bosses have their additional chips, and are equal or greater than 8 levels, if you defeat such a boss, you can obtain not only a life up or energy up item, but also an additional chip.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: PCSX-RR v0.1.3
  • Only use Zero to fight all stages
  • Plays in extreme mode
  • Aims for the fastest time
  • Takes damage, uses bug and control bosses level to save time
  • Manipulates luck

About this run

This run plays in 43:38.93. Due to the level system which influences the addition chips and boss’ HP, we had to select a good sequence and tried to control ourselves in a low rank so that we can get the chips we need and make the boss’ HP as lower as possible. About the chips
We use three chips: Hyper Dash, Z-Saber Plus and Z-Saber Extend

Intro stage

We were so lucky that we saved some frames in the bruise place and before the boss fight, we saved 28 frames. In the boss fight, we used the unharmed way so we saved 4 frames.

Mattrex

In the first half of this chapter, Angerfist & Atma played so good that we nearly can’t make better, but they made mistake in the gate of the first chapter. Break the gate; finish your action, only to finish this to case we can go to the next chapter. Angerfist & Atma didn’t notice that so they waste some frames. In the second chapter, we used the way of Bernka’s PSX Mega Man X5 "max item collection" in 54:33.68 to pass the lava place by armor. In such a situation, we saved 54 frames and 16 frames in boss fight.

Grizzly Slash

In the whole stage, we only find one place to save some flames. When get of the track, there will be a car-enemy and we found a faster way to beat it. So we can save 18 frames in the stages and save 1 frame in boss fight. By the way, we had to waste some frames when get off the track because we think only in special place can detonate by contact the ram. It made us angry.

Dynamo

We copied the control of Bernka’s PSX Mega Man X5 "max item collection" in 54:33.68 to pass the sages and we saved 12 frames. In the end when Dynamo told with Zero, we tried to delay a few delay to control the value of hit rate of the Enigma.

Duffman

It’s the longest stage of Mega Man X5 and we feel so tired when we played this stage. We found nothing powerful improvement of the stage and we must admit that Angerfist & Atma nearly played perfect in this stage. In the stage, include the boss fight, we just saved 8 frames. But, we tried our best to improve its pleasing to eves.

Axel the red

There are many long straight ways in the stages so we tried to use more Duffman’s weapon: Splasher to keep a high speed. In the boss stages, we optimized the way of attack. Finally, we totally saved 42 frames in this stage.

Squid Adler

Although it’s really a hard stage, but Bernka is so powerful that this stage seem too easy in his hands. He finished the bike part in a high speed without taking any bullet. Then, in the normal part, we used bug to save time and bruised many times to lower the rank so that make the next boss HP down. So we save 117 frames in the stages. In the boss fight, we control the boss’ way of move and we saved 59 frames in boss fight.

Dark Dizzy

As the Axel the Red, this stage also has many straight ways which can use Splasher as much as you likes. This stage is also hard to save frame. We just found one way in part two which can speed up. In the whole stages, we saved 31 frames.

Dynamo

This is another round to fight with Dynamo. He has more HP and new type of attack but it didn’t affect us. Unfortunately, the Z-Saber Extend we haven’t got now. If we had equipped Z-Saber Plus before the stage, we should equip Z-Saber Extend after this stage. So we will waste more frames. In the situation, we decided to fight Dynamo without Z-Saber Plus. For the long term, we had to waste 29 frames than Angerfist & Atma in this stage.

Virus 1

This stage is too short to have some available improve. But in the boss fight we have some new way to beat it. We control the eye in the below of the ball, instead of the foot because we had equipped the Z-Saber Extend. In this way we can beat it in first time. So we can have 38 frames better then Angerfist & Atma.

Izzy Glow

We change sequence between Izzy Glow and Virus 2. Actually we wanted to play this stage before Virus 1 but our fortune were so bad. Just like we said, more time we use, more level the boss are, the more HP will have, plus the boss are always move, so we decided to fight this boss early to save more time. After we finished this stage, the data proved that we are correct. Only in the boss fight we already saved 85 frames. Fortunately, we had also saved 22 frames before boss fight.

Virus 2

This stage is so hard. There are much armor-enemies and many enemy which can not be killed. But we tried to get damage before the ex-record. Just in this way, we saved 31 frames before boss fight. In the boss fight, because our rank was relatively low, so the boss was easy to fight. Only the red eye we use the weapon because other eyes will have long invincibility. This boss we saved 18 frames.

Virus 3

Just like the Virus 1, this short is one of the shortest stages in Mega Man X5. This stage we found a much speed way to pass to pass the spine place which helped us saved 29 frames. About the stage we think we had nothing to say. It’s easy than other boss.

Skiver

This stage is so boring. There are three times that we should by elevator. That means in those place it’s hard for us to save frame. But we also found two places (in the first and second elevator) that can be saved 67 frames. In the boss stage, Angerfist & Atma used C-Flasher as the final hit but it waste so much frames. Because this, they help us earned 30 frames.

Final Stage

This stage is so high! So many bosses in this stage and most of them are level 96! Without Slash Dash Cancel it’s really tired. The boss rush spent us twelve hours in a day. It’s really a nightmare. Although it had been finished now, every time I look back upon the process I also feel pain of my big toe. Because we equipped the Z-Saber Extend, we can better to control the distance. We also spent much time to manipulate, so we won 476 frames in the boss rush.
About Sigma, Psycho Sigma is so easy. But we spent much time to manipulate the final Sigma W. It also made us annoyance. By worked hard, we saved 27 and 181 frames in the twice fight with Sigma.

Author's comment

  • Shuy_: The process of making this movie is really hard for me. But it’s not the most important. As a freshman of TAS, I don’t have much experience. So Bernka helped me in many places. I do really thank him very much. During the cooperation with Bernka, I learnt a lot. I think this movie is wonderful, but it doesn’t mean the best. I really want to know more TASer of Mega Man X Ver. I hope someone will break our record.
  • Bernka: This run cost us more 1 month, this was a hard work I had never done before, but without Shuy_’s help I can’t do so much well. Also I am very happy to work with Shuy_, as a newbie he never gives up, sometime was lose than the current run but he will redo that until ahead. Some new tricks that I never expect are found by him, which is what I am surprised about him. I hope we can work together again.

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.
feos: Underwation publicay.

A bit late, because I had to discover it myself that PSXjin works fine under wine, and then discover that this run was made with PCSX-RR. Anyway, I’m going to watch the encode, thanks. (upd) I don’t like this game as much as the other Mega Man games, but the run is certainly ok, yes vote.

I just finished watching this, really impressive work guys. Z saber extend really made a large difference once you acquired it, especially in the refights. The main reason that c flasher was used on skiver (and other weaknesses on other bosses) was purely for attaining the best rank, otherwise I think we'd have taken more damage in general where possible to keep boss health lower.

I'm guessing the odd video flashing effects in the encode are due to 30fps recording trying to display a 60fps game? Effects like text boxes being empty or when character face boxes show up oddly. Great run though. The playstation Megaman games are some of my favorites, and glad to see such speed.

I'm torn between watching this or waiting for RealMyOp to comment this run (which will probably happen).

Question: Is it not possible to beat the green eye on Rangda Bangda the first time it appears? Or would it adversely affect the fight against the main body?

You can only hit it twice when you have the spinning jump slash as that's its weakness, which gives a significantly longer invulnerability period allowing you to only hit it twice each time it appears, iirc. The only plausible way of destroying it in one cycle is to either be at a lower rank, or do it earlier.

Yes, I uploaded a 60fps encode, but youku always re-encodes that low to 30fps. I tried to upload sina but for some reasons it doesn't work as normal.

That's why I can't distroy green eye on the first time just like what did Atma do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't being affected by the Zero virus help when you're playing as Zero?

yeah it makes Zero invincible for the most part(shots and contact, but spikes are still insta death), X takes extra damage from the same effect tho

That's not true. Zero is invincible to EVERYTHING when he gets infected by the virus during the gameplay.

I'm hardly around these days, but I found a bit of time to watch this run. This run reminds me of why Mega Man TASes are enjoyable to watch. Though, I admit they are very difficult to make.

I'm going to do resync on this encode. Guga, weren't you planning it as well? My setup looks pretty stable.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Did I say that? O.O I wasn't planning to publish this run (in fact, I'm waiting for you to accept Superman >_>). Also, I'm more into other projects.

I made a comparison to show how many frames we saved in an area and how we saved frames from the previous run. http://www.bilibili.tv/video/av1139285/

That's freaking perfect! Because I was delaying Superman until I get this run dumped :) Alright, will sync and accept it now then. EDIT: What res will you dump Superman at? Since it's a 3D game, you can use 342x256 to downscale to.
