So this was the first 3D Frogger game and it was release for both PC and PSX. It's grid based with minimal RNG. The objective of each level is to collect 5 frogs in order to proceed to the next level. New zones are unlocked by obtaining a gold frog. There is one gold frog in each zone. You complete the game by obtaining the gold frog in the last zone. There is an alternate ending if you obtain all gold frogs.
The goal of this run was to obtain all the frogs as fast as possible (100%). Often times in levels, you are limited in how fast you can complete the level by certain driving cycles. In order to make the run more interesting I made a secondary goal to reduce in game time as much as possible. At points where I had to waist time in the level I did random hoping, croaking, or ate stuff.
  • Emulator used: PSXjin v2.0.2 svn0
  • 100%

The same level can be completed in the same amount of real time while having a large variation in in-game time. Essentially, you can sack time on the score screen after each frog to simulate the level without counting in game time. Some cycles do not simulate on the score screen which in some instances made it possible to save both real and in game time by sacking time. This also meant in some places I had to waist time with the in game clock running, so in some levels, specifically Lily Islands and Spinning Lilies, I had to waist time at the beginning of the level waiting for log cycles because it was necessary for a certain bird cycle to line up.
Unfortunately the music is kind of broke so I couldn't do anything fun with that.
There is minimal RNG in this game which was convenient. The two things that are random are: 1) The gator that appears on frogs in the first zone. 2) Dogs tripping, both which dog and for how long, which is in the second zone.
No warps, passwords, damage abuses, or deaths were used in this run.
There are a few power-ups you can get by eating specific bugs:
1) Super hop - hop twice a fast
2) Auto hop - the game automatically hops for you by holding down a direction (1 frame faster than manual hopping)
3) Super tongue - extends your tongue's reach
4) Light bug - turns the brightness all the way up to the max (its in a cave level)
Super hop and auto hop can be obtained in one level at the same time. They don't make the TAS any faster but it wasn't slower to grab them both. Auto hop and super hop both make you go faster so they were obtained strategically where possible. The other two where just obtained because they were there.

feos: Accepting to Moons.
Spikestuff: Publishing... Now what to do with that audio. Considering I've attempted all methods for this game in the past for the audio (longplays) there is no proper way to fix it. So, looping music will be done.

It was pretty entertaining and very nice TAS. Shame the music doesn't give it justice... little emulator issue. Yes Vote. Edit: I should mention this. In the encode, Cane put extra input to add his name and show his times in each zone. The TAS ends when jumping towards the gold frog.

Yay! The project I started and restarted how many times is finally completed thanks to somebody else. Now I can stop feeling guilty for never completing it. :)

Finally! This has been one of my most personally anticipated TASs just because of how much I loved playing it when it first came out. From what I can tell, this looks pretty good. I'm assuming that time spent watching the points total up after collecting a frog is so the moving objects on the map are in the right place when you go back to the start point. Yes.

Going to confirm that this is correct. I actually copied the inputs and actually died because of it.

Will there eventually be a video where the music is fixed? If so, I'll wait to watch that.

On the topic, CaneoofPacci, I liked what I saw of the run(Just watched the retro and the first level). It looks confusing the first level after the retro. :O Will watch the rest when I'll get the time.
The game itself after the Retro Zone can be quite overwhelming for someone new to the game. Each level is different, and although some levels are remixed levels from earlier in the zone, routing can be quite difficult as you don't know where anything is without exploration, which is difficult because the time limit. If you're confused about the time being sacked on the score screen there are two reasons for that. The first being that some cycles don't simulate on the score screen which allows you to manipulate those to line up better with other cycles. (Such as the bird in the 1st level in the Lily Pad Zone or the only balloon that is used in the 2nd level of that zone.) Other than that some time is sacked on that screen simply to reduce in game time as seen here: Link to video

Frog is a classic game. However, recently, I have not seen him on the console. Too bad. He was arcade treasure. Vote YES.

yeah I noticed the cycles. You've must have TASed the same level more than one time to find the optimal path I guess. Amazing! I'll watch it now. EDIT: Watched 30 minutes, had to go, liked what I saw!

The problem is in the emulator itself. It doesn't loop the music correctly. So sorry, you're stuck with what you've got.

Given that it's an emulator bug, would it be simple enough to republish this with fixed music, if the bug in question is ever fixed? Alternately, is it possible to dump the video with no music at all, and then edit in the music as it ought to be? Even if that can't be the official publication video, the unofficial existence of such a video would probably satisfy most of the persnickety nostalgia-watchers... or it'd satisfy me, at least :v

(I know this would sound like I'm lazy but I actually thought this out) Given that there is more than 2 tracks *looks at Pepsiman* and having the game audio on loop on all the stages it actually couldn't be done unless I killed Frogger's jumping sounds. So answer to that second one is nope because I would kill Frogger's sound too and there is no possible way to just have Frogger's sounds, unless I slaved myself to remove all game music, risking the possibility I'd destroy all background sounds and then just making a mess of it in the end.

Given that I also like this game (haven't played it for a long time so it puts me in the "nostalgia watchers" too) I was actually more shocked that there wasn't any proper way to fix this. I'm not a person who is fussy over this but I am one who would like a fix with the emulator itself (see above sentence) Before this TAS even existed or Cane actually starting it. I actually went through more than a dozen methods to try and remove just game audio. To tell you the truth, it's not there. Doing that thing which is painstakingly removing game audio and risking the background audio + Frogger's audio that happens too. As a "nostalgia watcher" I prefer hearing the sounds of Frogger moving than anything else I am able to mute the game music out of my head and switch it with the normal one in my head but I cannot do it because I broke the sound effects of the game itself. Sorry

Glitched music or not, this was a great run. I remember this game solidly kicking my ass when I was twelve or so, and to see it have its ass handed to it is nostalgia like you wouldn't believe.

(For clarity's sake: I was in fact counting myself among the "persnickety nostalgia-watchers".) It's a shame that can't be done, but on the bright side, the bug will almost certainly be fixed eventually, and then I'll have an excuse to watch it again :v
