  • This my first TAS for this game,where I decided to clear it with all items in the game because I watched nEilfox's run,and I knew that there are other items must be collected
  • In this run,I abused a new glitch I call it "Dore Glitch" in Area 8 which allows you to skip most of rooms,however,it is not useful because when you use it in other area,it return you to Area 1,so you must search for the good place to do.All other tricks used is from the current Any% run.
  • Getting items is easy,you can get some items by completing areas,and others by going to take them.By the way,I want to note for an item (Helmet) that you must meet with enemies to take it,as you can see after clearing Area 9.To meet with enemies here,I should transfer 3 times between the Area 9 & 17 then go to Area 17 and meet with enemies.

Interesting idea for a run. I was nostalgic to see this run go through the first couple stages (though a TAS has a lot less trouble navigating that dark area without the flares). I also remember really liking the area with all the water drops early on. Every area was visited except for Area 19, but I don't think there's anything there. Route 8 was pretty surprising. Also, did you manage to skip some of the escape shaft at the end of Route 12? The hard part, though, is deciding whether I think the addition of the extra stages is really worth the entertainment. After all, you don't use any of the extra items. You do get some more health that can be used for damage boosts, but you mostly don't use that either. After Stage 6, it really is mostly like an any% run with one or two side distractions. Anyway, I liked this, and I'm voting Yes. I played this game a lot as a kid though, so I'm biased.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! This is a really entertaining TAS of an extremely technical game. Definite yes vote. I'm not going to lie, though, I'm not real happy that the author used the truck route and room storage glitch that I found without giving me any kind of credit. Finding a route that encounters 0 trucks was not trivial, and the room storage saves close to a minute in area 8. At least a mention would've been nice. Edit: If this run is improved, I'd recommend enabling movement during the helicopter explosion cutscene just like he did during all the "boss fights". All you have to do is have a crouching grapple connect to the "wall" after the dialogue box goes away. I'm not sure if he tried it and missed or what he was doing there (it looks exactly like when I missed it in my real-time runs). Anyways, being able to move around during that victory jingle is pretty fun and doesn't cost time, so it may as well be done.

I spent some time working with PJ on the door glitch to better understand what happens with it while he was routing this category. I don't need any mention, but for posterity's sake it would be good to have it fleshed out further in the run notes or in the game's thread. Simply put, the game tracks what room you are currently in and uses a table with some offsets (doors) to decide where you end up next. What you end up doing is having the game advance the room you are in without actually travelling there, and then by entering a different door you are able to go where that index would have taken you in the room the game thinks you're in. I can dig up memory addresses from my notes later, but it's a significant enough bug that some more experimentation may prove useful for future iterations of this TAS. Traveling to a non-existent index will usually send you to Area 1, but with playing around with the value I've also gone to some junk rooms.

I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

If 100% means "all non-respawning items", then I think this counts. Area 19 only has respawning enemies and bullets.

Very nice. I am a long time lurker and I had to say to see a thorough run is great. Not to say anything against squashing the program into flatlining in a few seconds is not impressive, but it is nice to see the artwork, scenery and plot. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but I would like to see more 100p runs on NES. Thank you and if I could vote I would say yes. Great job, McBobX! :)
