for watching WIPs and commenting on the run, I prefer faster downloads over image quality. so actually, I'd like low bitrate WIPs and a high quality final encode, not the other way around. oh, while I'm posting, thanks for doing the encoding. :) GuanoBowl, it's a pleasure to watch your WIPs. It's quite noticable that you get better at TASing in each iteration. Even though I follow the discussion here and know about the routes and tricks, you still manage to surprise me with something I hadn't known or thought about before. Keep up the good work!

Why aren't you changing the frame count from 60 to 20? First of all, that is what the game is running at and there isn't too much fast movement. Second, it saves space (less frames with higher bitrate would be better). Third, there is much less processor power required to play it back (not so much of a problem at low resolutions). So yeah, every frame is shown three times and it's just a suggestion. Guano somehow fixed the desync issue without changing anything before it happened, that's odd..

Duplicate frames in an encode cost nothing. You can test out a 20fps output, it may look ok. If you're using mencoder it's as easy as "-ofps 20" if I'm not mistaken.

What? It's mere bytes/frame but it's something, they aren't true duplicates

bk, sorry to put you to it again. Here is from start to mastersword. A lot of people that cannot view .m64s really appreciate what you do, as well as everyone who can view them. Thank you. http://download.yousendit.com/6E2D997E27E15557 To reach my goal, I have exactly 45 minutes to finish the game. Woot!

You said 50 minutes last time...is this after talking to Sheik (whereas last time was up to pulling the MS)?

As for making a video of everything to this point.... I'll wait until Guano is at the master sword for real. It would take probably 6 hours of letting the emulator run through, and then triple that to encode to a manageable size. And I have no idea if the sound will stay in sync. But I'll try. I'll ask in advance. would you want it to be 320x240 (bitrate ~240 like the current published run) or 512x384 (bitrate ~300, all the latest wips have been this).
As with Andypro, I'd prefer faster downloads over higher quality. Much thanks. If you can't get the sound to stay in sync, don't worry about it.

I would make duplicate frames 0 bytes like DeHackEd but I don't use mencoder and I'm comfortable with x264.exe. Besides, overall video quality is VERY SLIGHTLY affected by that and these are not final encodes, only to help the m64-challenged, so don't give me grief over that. Also you all should know the final encode will be 320x240, so I thought I was kind of spoiling you with 512x384 encodes. meh. If I hard killed all but 20fps, then the 60fps file selection would be jerky, and the 30fps pause screens would also be jerky. Unless x264.exe has a mencoderlike decimate function? I won't have time to encode it all until tomorrow night, what with only having a laptop, and a crazy class scedule. Thanks for your patience.

I think last time, I said the time before I was in control of Link. This time, was 1 Hour and 15.0 Minutes taking control of Link in the Temple of Time.

Cool, thanks for doing this. You are right, forget what we said about making the output 20fps. I completely forgot that there were parts that ran faster than that. It's best not to decimate when you have mixed framerates since that could further make sound desync a problem in some cases. x264.exe eh? I'll have to check that out. I didn't think there was any official x264 front end. I've been using mencoder and staxrip (which essentially is a front end for mencoder and a lot of other things). Anyway, moving back on topic - good work so far Guano. I tried watching the latest segment but I was fast forwarding from one of my save states and it desynced at dodongos. I'll just wait until bkDj gets the vid made. Looking forward to the adult portion!

Why encode it several times? Just encode the avi directly with x264 and it will 'only' take 6h. With quantizer 26 it becomes really small.

Syncs up from beginning to end, good job fixing all the desyncs, I look forward to further progress.

So far, no desynchs after the race. Good news: I completed the race 1 second "Game Time" faster than my previous run in the race! After reaching the graveyard after getting squished by the door, I am at 1 Hour and 19.0 Minutes. So, the next thing to do now is Shadow Temple(hover boots) then exit, Great Fairy(magic meter), Forest Temple(Fairy Bow) then beat boss. Ill post the WIP after Link gets the hover boots.

I guess TSA will never post his race video that he promised ages ago. What a sellout.

If I recall correctly, TSA said he knew of a way to improve your old time on the Dampe race by more than a few seconds.

I don't think there's much to post. If he just backwalks/side hops all the time (checking what's faster), he should get an optimal time. TSA had the longshot too which allowed him to use a big shortcut.

Oh, I'm not too sure about that. MWL edited his post but had mentioned that TSA had planned to record a video that showed his strategy once he got to that point in his segmented run. But he retired.

TSA said Guano's times are optimal without the longshot. 42-44 sec. is optimal with the longshot, and his 38 sec. or whatever was the result of a misunderstanding with regards to Cyberscore's timing conventions. So forget everything I said earlier. Sorry for the confusion I caused.

not to mention the LoZ sub 30 run he promised. If you ask me he's the most overrated speedrunner the world will ever see.

Guano, if you're doing the Shadow early trick then be sure to test if hovering from the roof is faster and have you corrected the BB game yet.

don't forget the AlttP-Run he said he had finished but didn't submit, while at the same time flaming others for not disclosing their routes.

Also, don't forget that he promised to post them both after all the "Twilight Princess madness" had died away, which I don't believe you can say it has yet.

this one I'm sure this one is quicker since you can prepare the endless sword on the roof and probally hover onto the wall in 3 bombs.

uhm.. I know this sounds stupid, but can anyone make/find a save file for this game after coompleted Dodongo Cavern, to mupen?
Those who sees this must accept that TAS'es almost skips the whole game..
