:( that sucks. Well, no CC uns then I guess, though CC runs have insane potential and probably shave off around what, 10 minutes plus... and the things that are accessable do to it add to that time. Bah, maybe Ill save that for some "non official I'm dicking around in OoT" run on 64 or something. Okay, no CC then. What about that Swordless link to skip spirit? What are people's views here?

If it saves time then obviously why not? Anything that can save time and aint cheating you are free to do whatever you want :P

Acryte, welcome. Will be watching this thread with keen interest :) CB, great work on the test run so far. I'm excited to see what happens when people team up to work on this project.

Well, I know that Acryte knows everything regarding OoT that I know, and about 5 times more on top of that, so I should just step aside now that you're onto this because there really isn't anything that I can do that you can't do better for OoT. I'm outclassed in knowledge, creativity, and possibly even time, so there's not much point in me working on it when there's anyone else who is willing to work on it, especially when it's someone of your calibur. I really didn't know what route I would take, I was just going until you meet Zelda for the test route, then I was going to look at what seemed the best at the time on the SDA discussion and try that out. I've got nothing.

If I had the time to learn how to do a TAS, I would help. But it's another thing I'd have to learn, and this game is way too long. I'd rather keep focusing on getting sub-4 in a console run...plus, I'm not to sure how people would react to me making a TAS of a Zelda game.

If I were you, I wouldnt care what people would think because you have proven dozen times you can achieve almost whatever you want in speedruns, you are already one of the most famous speedrunners today, you dont need to prove yourself anymore knowing what you have accomplished before but Im not you. Learning how to do a TAS is so easy (thats coming from me), takes only a few minutes to learn the vital parts.

Put people to shame, have both the best console time AND best TAS time for zelda 64 under your belt :)

Nitsuja, exactly how long (if you are willing that is) would it take to get a proper start menu for OoT? If it took a while now and I recorded stuff and then switched to a quick one wouldn't the rec files be completely off?

Hmm, Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM is a little bit wrong, since it flashes up the image a moment before it actually works with it. I'd like to know what setting can make automated movie scenes stay in sync with their sound. The Banjo-Kazooie intro looks really bad.

It can already be sort-of fixed by using certain settings in one graphics plugin (the "Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM" setting in Jabo's D3D8 1.6). It has to transfer a lot of data every frame which will probably make emulation on your computer much slower, but it mostly gets rid of the pause menu delay. The resulting movie can only be watched using the same plugin and settings, however. It's a closed-source plugin and I'm not exactly sure what they did to fix it, and I'm a little suspicious of it since the graphics plugin shouldn't even be able to alter the timing like that. It's pretty impossible to predict how long it would take to find a better fix for it (one in the emulator that doesn't rely on that plugin), maybe some day I'll suddenly find something that fixes it, but I wouldn't count on that happening. It seems more likely that Hacktarux or someone that knows how the emulation core works will fix it in the process of improving the emulation accuracy in some future version of Mupen64.

cool. I grabbed Jabo's plugin in some zip w/ pj64 today, as well as an OoT ROM from Angerfist (thanks by the way). As soon as I get a controller I can start getting serious. Right now is the time for testing. I have a bunch of calc2 homework to do so I won't be messing w/ it all tonight, though I will indefinitely mess w/ this soon. Question: for a TAS of a potential 3:30 or so run, what would an acceptable savestate number be? I mean, I can work off of rather low amounts, but to make it as good as I possibly can, including frame optimizations and crap, it might take more. What you you guys think? 2nd Question: Are there any script functions or anything for Mupen? Could they possibly be added? Such as scripting the perfect rolls, etc. If not or if it would take too long don't even worry about it. Just tell me to shut up.

I've learned to ignore the re-record counter. It takes as many re-records it takes to finish with something eventually. And if you spend a 1000 (yes) re-records on something and discovers it was useless 2 minutes later it's no big deal.

I think SprintGod has the record for the highest rerecord for a run. 160 000 I believe...... so take your time and minimize every jump, backwalking etc, aim for frame perfection :)

Number of rerecords doesn't say anything... I couldn't care less, but a too low amount usually isn't a good sign. I can say fairly sure there is no such script function... and there will not be one either. It would have been implanted in other emu's if it were possible I think.

cool. thanks guys. I'm just trying to figure some of the stuff/options I have out, so bear w/ me. ;) _________ Update: The rom doesn't work. It crashes when entering Ghoma's room. I tried it on 2 different emulators. Anyone have a working ROM?

I dont understand why it would crash. I mean I've been told that Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.0) [!].z64 is the best ROM.

Very strange... I guess I'll try it some more or something??? It gets to 96% loading for the room and then stops completely. Then gives me the stupid crash and "do you want to send..." crap.

This same thing happened on another emulator also? If so, that means it's probably a problem with one of the plugins you're using. Try saving before the room and testing it with different plugins. (In order of most likely to least likely to be the problem: video plugin, RSP plugin, general emulator settings, input plugin, audio plugin.) Also, it might help to update your video driver (and maybe DirectX) since buggy drivers can cause crashes like this.

I've thought about the menu delay problem with the ROM. Correct me if Im wrong but there are not many times where you have use the menu for switching weapons and such right? How is the delay btw?

K, dled PJ64 since it came bundled w/ Jabo's plugin... Then firstly, in Mupen I still can't see it, and secondly it freezes no matter the plugin as far as I remember it at least. I'll try again tonight though. idea: not sure but I'm gonna see if backrunning w/ deku stick is faster than normal, or if the starting of the run is faster. have a few other small ideas to test but meh. in good time, right now I need to get that gay ebay working so I can get that adapter.
