A TAS stands for Tool-Assisted Speedrun (some prefer Superplay). It means that tools such as frame advance (slowdown) and rerecords (savestates) were used to create the movie. It has nothing to do with the accuracy of the movie. If you slowed down the game to 25% speed while making the movie, then it is a TAS. You might want to look into how savestates can be used for making a movie: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/Using.html#UsingSavestates Be also sure to check out the rest of that page, as a lot of very practical things are mentioned for making a TAS.

The behavior toward ivmaddnessvi in this thread pisses me off. We have a new potential TASer, and you just want to run him off?
Moozooh covered this subject some time ago. If a potential new TASer gets scared off by a response like this, then it's unlikely they would ever become a serious/respectable TASer in the future regardless.

That doesn't make the behavior acceptable.

I can't see, why my behavior was wrong. ivmaddnessvi and his friend insulted me on youtube and called me a jerk, a show off and a grabber, because I told them, that their stuff has nothing to do with a TAS they played their first "TAS"es on project64 and recorded them with fraps. although all their videos were named like "woodfall temple TAS", they said, that I'm dumb, because I said, that their stuff would be a TAS, although they never said, it would be a TAS! how should I react then? at least, we cleared this problem on youtube by now ;)

as I said already: we cleared the problem already but I can't stand it, if people come here and tell me, how to behave, although they have no idea, what happened

The only thing i can say about this.. MAYBE this is a "TAS" beacause you used slowdowns etc. But then it's HIGHLY unoptimized. TAS stands for me to be perfectly played. And your "TAS" looks like a speedrun done on a real console. Maybe that's why you get so many negative comments on this. I would highly suggest, that you follow Baxter's advice and use savestates etc. THEN it would be okay to state it as a TAS ;) EDIT: and pls change your Avatar -.-

He COULD just try to beat the current published one. It's almost guaranteed that he's going to need all the tricks in the book (and maybe some new ones) to be any faster anyway.

Alright i think i have a TAS. As you guys suggested (especially MrGrunz) i should use save stats which i did. I used many re-records I also used 20% speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ2Qq2vIM5E Please dont be to harsh. I dont not know many tricks for the Deku Tree so if you know any that might speed this up share them with me. This is not the best but i have been screwing around with the TAS for about a couple of hours. My goal was to beat the tree as fast as possible. Also can anyone tell me why Mupen loves to cut of the last couple of frames of my video. Thanks.

Oh, welcome to TASvideos! It's good to see newbies eager to learn more. I don't TAS this game, but I can help point out some of the more obvious things. You spend a lot of time going down just to get a Deku Nut then climb back up - you could get one earlier and skip the slow climbing. Navi's speeches are slow too, so try to avoid them. At places like 1:53, you don't move in a straight line (instead focusing on moving the camera) and you forgot not to walk. Also you shouldn't take damage unless it saves time or is entertaining - just keep trying until things go your way. Think of what the fastest possible solutions would be - you shouldn't have to wait for anyone. =P

http://www.zeldaspeedrun.dreamhosters.com/oot/dungeons/deku.php You're gonna have to check out the tricks. Also use fast grabbing in order to clip through the GS faster if you aren't using a falling grab from the top while breaking the web. there's alot of stuff you're gonna have to figure out. Watching the old TAS may help alot, but you need to brief yourself with all the tricks and stuff. You may need to watch a few runs first and then find out what tricks they were doing, get on the irc and then have people who are knowledgeable help you with the route.

ivmaddnessvi, have you watched the current run on the site? it might be a good idea for you to get a feel for some of the trick and glitches and stuff.

don't watch guano's run! his TAS is played on such a low skill level, that it should actually get banned from this side watch bloobiebla's run ;)

If you've watched them all how come you don't use any of their tricks? Swordlesslink's Deku tree run was 10 seconds faster than yours, and he got the got the sling shot. The one test run where he didn't, was 30 seconds faster. You've got potential for this game kid, but you have to be willing to incorporate known techniques. I would love you do this game in full, but there still alot more you need to use.
