I think he wanted to save that Deku Stick... Nice run so far, but there's one bad thing - The Dialogues. Always use the B button in dialogues, if you're not totally forced to use A. Using B allows you to skip 90% of the owl/fisherman dialogues.

Somehow I got the impression that in your recent attempt, you are slower sometimes moving across areas.

I talked to TSA about the gate in the Fortress a week ago, and in my mind he used 'cheats' to get through it. He used a gameshark and did a jumpslash with superspeed. CoolBumpty its best to click on my link and the only only way of getting through the gate is produce an explosive boost and by rapid rolling. Although I can't get the speed or control from it, or by getting halfway up the gate at a diagonal angle and jumpslashing through it. Is there any emulators where I can use slow down to test that. I thought Pro64 had it but I can find it.

I finally watched the WIP (thanks Guano ;) ) and I don't really have anything to say that hasn't been said already... It looks pretty good imo. could you provide a savestate with your next WIP? I tried making one when you enter gerudo valley but playing the movie from it desynchs it. Young link won't grab the cucco and will roll next to it instead, then he'll fall down the river... Or does anyone know how to make one without making the movie desynch? Good luck for the next part

So you can skip owl and fisherman texts with B? Huh.. Never knew that. ----> Well I grabbed 3 blue rupees from the village because if I try and manipulate bushes to give me them, they will shoot out differnt things in the run like hearts, deku seeds, etc... So, I think I got the right ones for exiting the forest.

Yep, and it's not only owl/fisherman texts that can be skipped, there's a whole lot of skipable texts throughout the game, so I suggest always using B. But anyway, this was just a testrun. ;)

Nice segment up to Gerudo, Guano. I agree you should probably start distributing your save files with each WIP now (pretty please). As much as I love your deku tree and fishing, etc, I've seen it plenty (plus my computer can only fast forward so quickly because it is old)!

Ok, I got one, right before the cucko-grab in Gerudo Valley. Tell me if it works. Remember to open read only (on both the movie file, and the save-state) Here you go: https://webfiles.berkeley.edu/DK64_MASTER/shared/sv.st7

DK, your link doesn't work because it has [!] in it. Use HTML instead. :) Edit: Yes it works now.

Heh, I hope the name-change doesn't cause a desynch. Edit: Just tried it out, it works on my computer. Can anyone confirm :)? Edit2: Thanks LDC. Edit3: Confirmed to work :).

Unless this is a real run, there's really no need to go back and correct this. Save your strength, and get to the good stuff :). Just keep a note of it for the future. But who am I to tell you what to do, it's your call :)

I'm actually begging to wonder if its really faster to get to Lake Hylia from Links house compared to drawbridge, don't forget that the transitition scenes waste time. I think it would be much better to head directly to Spirit First after Kokiri SAVE/RESET Hyrule Castle Backwalk to Lake Hylia Get gold scale get bottle use to bypass King Zora Enter Jabu through side of mouth Save/Quit Lost Woods Saria's song etc etc.. It defititley is probally better to restart and do that instead, because Save/Resets are costly in terms of time wasted.

Thanks for the save state, much appreciated. Heck, if he wants to optimize this test run a bit I think that's good. I mean, if he finished the entire run, no matter how long it is, I think he could submit it and have it accepted (Bisqwit keeps saying the site is in much need of more N64 runs!). Then if someone else has the time/dedication to beat this test run they're more than welcome to go for it!

SAVE/RESET, isnt that not possible for recording?

At the moment, no. So you'll just have to kill yourself, or work off a new save-state if you find yourself trapped. (The new save-state will start off at Link's house, temple of time, or a dungeon, depending on where you want to save/reset) Anyone else have any ideas??

As for getting the twenty rupees for the fishing, getting the blue rupee from jumping over the platforms in the water by the shop is an obvious choice, since it's completely on the way. But I was thinking that instead of going into the house and opening the two chests for two more blue rupees, it might be faster to just grab the one that's on a ledge behind that house, and to kill both of the skeletons that pop up instead and get a blue rupee from each of them. But I don't know how the randomness for the skeletons work, so I don't know if it would be faster. And you can just kill yourself. ;)

the skeletons wont give you blue 2 rupees. I tried for about 30 minutes killing each one seperately in different ways at different times and nothing but a heart/green rupee or heart/blue rupee or deku seed/nothing etc..... But maybe it can be possible.

That isn't how this site times the runs. It is all inclusive, and so if you were to actually attempt a segmented run, the total time would include every frame of ROM start up/title screen/slot select/loading/etc.

No, the new save state will start at the intro screen. Re: Below post - Mupen64 does not currently have soft resets.

Does Mupen 64 do a realistic soft reset, or is it always like hitting the switch off and on?

Just four segments now. Yes, AKA's proposal is faster, and I made a mistake last night as well -- the additional savewarp after JJ is not faster. Theoretical Best Route - Tool-assisted Segment 1 1. Link's House (Exit) 2. Kokiri Forest (Get Kokiri Sword; Collect Rupees) 3. Kokiri Shop (Buy Deku Shield) 4. Kokiri Forest (Mido/Tree dialogues) 5. Inside the Deku Tree (Text skips) 6. Kokiri Forest (Savewarp) Items obtained: Kokiri Sword, Deku Shield, Deku Sticks, Fairy Slingshot, Kokiri Emerald Segment 2 1. Link's House (Exit) 2. Kokiri Forest (Get Fairy Ocarina) 3. Hyrule Field (Backwalk to Valley) 4. Gerudo Valley (Cucco Jump) 5. Gerudo Fortress (Gate slash) 6. Haunted Wasteland (Quicksand crossing; Lens-less Poe route) 7. Desert Colossus (To Spirit) 8. Spirit Temple (Exit immediately) 9. Desert Colossus (Learn Requiem; Reenter Temple) 10. Spirit Temple (Get Bombchus/Silver Gauntlets) 11. Desert Colossus (Savewarp) Items obtained: Fairy Ocarina, Golden Scale, Bottle, Requiem, Bombchu, Silver Gauntlets Segment 3 - Child Portion 1. Link's House (Exit) 2. Kokiri Forest (Exit) 3. Hyrule Field (Backwalk to castle gates) 4. Market (Exit) 5. Hyrule Castle (Bombchu boost across moat) 6. Castle Courtyard (Get Lullaby) 7. Hyrule Field (Backwalk to Lake) 8. Lake Hylia (Get 20 Rupees) 9. Fishing Pond (Get Golden Scale) 10. Lake Hylia (Retrieve bottle with letter) 11. Zora's Domain (Show King bottle) 12. Zora's Fountain (Bomb boost into Jabu-Jabu) 13. Inside Lord Jabu-Jabu's Belly (Tentacle skips) 14. Zora's Fountain (Leave) 15. Zora's Domain (Jump down waterfall) 16. Zora's River (Warp to Lost Woods) 17. Lost Woods (Navigate to SFM) 18. Sacred Forest Meadow (Get Saria's Song) 19. Lost Woods (to Goron City warp) 20. Goron City (Exit through main entrance) 21. Death Mountain Trail (Open Dodongo's Cavern) 22. Dodongo's Cavern (Bombchu eyes) 23. Death Mountain Trail (To summit) 24. Great Fairy's Fountain (Get Magic Meter) 25. Death Mountain Trail (Ride Owl to Village) 26. Kakariko Village (Cucco dive) 27. Bottom of the Well (Restock Bombchus) 28. Kakariko Village (Exit) 29. Hyrule Field (Get Ocarina of Time) 30. Market (To Temple) 31. Temple of Time (Pull Master Sword) Items obtained: Boomerang, Zora's Sapphire, Saria's Song, Goron's Ruby, Magic Meter, Bombchus, Ocarina of Time, Song of Time, Master Sword, Light Medallion Segment 3 - Adult Portion 1. Temple of Time (Chamber of Sages cutscene) 2. Market (Exit) 3. Hyrule Field (Backwalk to Village) 4. Kakariko Village (to Graveyard) 5. Graveyard (Open Dampe's tomb) 6. ??? (Get squished by exit door after race) 7. Graveyard (Poe/Bombchu boosts; Sidehop) 8. Shadow Temple (Get Boss Key without Din's) 9. Graveyard (Exit) 10. KV (Exit through open gate) 11. Death Mountain Trail 12. Goron City 13. Lost Woods 14. Sacred Forest Meadow 15. Forest Temple (Get bow and play requiem) 16. Desert Colossus (Balkwalk to Spirit) 17. Spirit Temple (Iron Knuckle skip; Get Mirror Shield) 18. Desert Colossus (Savewarp) Items obtained: Hookshot, Hylian Shield, Hover Boots, Shadow Medallion, Fairy Bow, Mirror Shield, Spirit Medallion Segment 4 1. Temple of Time (Get Light arrows) 2. Market 3. Ganon's Castle (Rainbow Bridge cutscene) 4. Inside Ganon's Castle (Barrier skip) 5. Ganon's Tower 6. Ganondorf Battle 7. Escape 8. Ganon Battle Items obtained: Light arrows To GuanoBowl: Since Mupen64 does NOT currently have soft resets, for now just die and continue to make things easier. The first savewarp can be ignored for now, while for the second and third you can simply get hit by Leevers around the Colossus until you die. Since you are not picking up any additional heart containers/pieces (you won't need them), you should die pretty quickly. Also, please make a savestate each time you enter a major dungeon/area and include those with your movie so that we can continue watching from the previous update rather than starting all the way from the beginning. Thanks.
