So it only has hard resets, right? How hard do you think it would be to program a realistic reset button effect?

What happens is that it doesn't record resets. I don't know how the reset function works, but at least it doesn't record it in the movie file. This is what needs to be done: recording a reset. It's not a question wether it's a hard or soft reset.

Okay, I guess there's not a big enough difference for us to worry about that right now. But does anyone feel like actually altering the code so it'll record resets sometime soon? Is anyone familiar with it?

Also, please make a savestate each time you enter a major dungeon/area and include those with your movie so that we can continue watching from the previous update rather than starting all the way from the beginning. Thanks.[/size]
He doesn't necessarily have to do it. Anybody who watches the movie can make corresponding savestates. In fact, it took me all of 5 minutes to get mine. I'll continue to provide them as corresponding WIPs get released, but do not rely on me. :)

Yes, exactly. I can't figure out why there is so much savestate requesting. Just make your own, that way you know exactly where it is saved, and you don't have to copy/move/rename files. Seems like much less of a hassle to me.

Problem is, some people just can't do it. I tried again to make my own this morning like 10 times to see if it worked better than yesterday and I ALWAYS got a desynch. Luckily there are always people kind enough to make one and give it to the others =)

What you do is: 1. Play the movie (make sure read-only is checked). 2. If you encounter a place you want to save, press shift and f1 (actually f1-f8 works) together. 3. The movie will continue to play. 4. Press f1, the movie should go back to the save state, and should not desynch.

Ok, maybe I'm the only one, but for me the Movie messes up at Gerudo Valley. Link does the backwalking at the beginning properly, then when he gets near the chicken he ends up backwalking into the river, jump slashing, and messing around. I'm assuming I had another Input problem, but this time I can't think what caused it. I had the same plugins, Raw Data was checked, etc..So..yeah. =/ Good looking up to that point, though. ^^

I just got done getting the bottle and my fishing was excellent! Somehow when I playback, it assumes that I didnt go back up the ladder to get to Hyrule Field and over to Guerdo Valley. So Ill just replay the movie and find whats wrong with it.

In the SDA topic, FierceLinkMaster had a post that links to divx movie files that show a trick to avoid having to use a bombchu on the beamos in Spirit Temple, and one that shows Link running through the desert really quickly (using action replay or something like that to boost up the speed). The running is really unoptimized, since I'm pretty sure he was doing that in real time, but it does give a general, though vague, idea of where to go. But as for the perfect path, well, that'll take a ton of testing. Haunted Wasteland: http://paperpengo.com/Zelda/Haunted%20Wasteland%20Dash.divx Beamos Skip: http://paperpengo.com/Zelda/Beamos%20Super%20Jump.divx Just in case you haven't seen it. And the ground jump stuff that's been talked about recently is pretty interesting too. Maybe if getting the bombbag upgrade as a child that lets you have bombs as an adult doesn't take too much time, it could be useful for the Forest Temple. And bombs might be useful in other places as well. But I'm not really sure if it can be used to save time.

FIERCE's route isn't the optimal route through the Wasteland. Mine is although not technically perfect its near enough the path. Can the lens section of the destert be done in two backwalks? I feel really embarrassed but I can never get Guamo's movie to run I haven Mupen 0.5.1 which is probally some beta version. Do I need addionial programs or do I have to open it in Mupen in a certain way. Do SAVE/RESETS count as additional time i.e. Title menu screen and the delayed reset? Ruppee's should not be a problem if Spirit is done first because you get 20 Ruppee's from the Amos(thing) after you burn it. I assume that the run will attempt to skip the bean using the poe boost, but be warned it'll take 100's of re-records and possibly days to pull off.

AKA, you probably can't run the Movie because you aren't using Mupen with rerecording. 0.5.1 is the official version; Nitsuja (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) made some changes, and that Mupen can be downloaded somewhere on this site, I'm not sure where, but someone can show you.

It is all inclusive, and so if you were to actually attempt a segmented run, the total time would include every frame of ROM start up/title screen/slot select/loading/etc.

I've put up the finalized (for now) testrun route in pretty table format, with each and every step filled in for GuanoBowl. I've also included VIDEOS for every major trick. Testrun Route If you notice, there is a very nice video of the lens-less Wasteland route by AKA, and it looks pretty much optimized. Only one video is missing, and that's the Poe boost (which will be much, much later) [Edit by Bisqwit: Removed extravagant markup]

No way in hell am I gonna try to re-create the poe boost. It was pulled off after roughly seven hours worth of attempts and there's so many factors that have to be exact when doing it. The poe has to come at an upwards and hit you at the peak of a sword jump. Its hard enough to make the poe hit you while doing all that. When I pulled it off half Links body was hanging over the edge.

With the ground jump there's not nearly enough height to clear Mido. My attempts to use bombs/bombchus/jumpslashes in addition to the ground jump didn't work either. But well, it's very much possible that I just didn't try enough. I only tried for about 30 minutes. And on a random note, I was able to bombchu the pillar in the Shadow Temple in my first try. But it took me about 20 times to get pulled through the spiked wall to get the key. And I found out that I'm decent at sword spins at about 30% speed emulation. =P

If the ground jump enabled Link to jump 50% higher then Mido could be skipped Gate in Fortress could be glitched through Gerudo valley could be by passed more easily (although probally slower) Dondongo could be side tracked in the penultimate room They are probnally others but theres the main ones I can think of. We won't use bombchu's on the pillars (only on consoles) We'll use Acrtye's hover boost backflip instead (which I've only ever done once) I tried to run the rom, but I got a blue screen telling me how seriouly harmfuil this would be if I ran this program and my computer did a forced restart. This has contined to happen.

Okay, here is my fastest route so far in the Wasteland. Also for the chicken jump over the gate. It was much easier and maybe faster the way I did it in this WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1112/THE%20LEGEND%20OF%20ZELDA%20%28USA%29.m64 Tell me whatcha think

Good stuff once again! The Wasteland sure looked cool, especially at the beginning with all the white fog on the screen. Just a thought: are you sure it's not faster to just walk instead of turning around and sidehopping sometimes? There was one place in the deku tree I thought it looked slower. It's no big deal for this one, but if it can save time later on, it could be useful. As for save states, I can't give one myself because I totally forgot to try and make one without causing the movie to desynch. I'll make one tomorrow if no one has before, I just really need to get some sleep now... I knew I shouldn't have come here checking for an update before I went to bed >_>

don't worry I've seen it and it is very nice. You changed your route, right? Aren't you gonna loose time with this?
