It's simple, he's just doing the Down A glitch, when you spam the camera with it, the camera is just locked and so the actors are not loaded, such as King Zora

Just made a quick test yesterday, for my MQ run, it's not worth doing because it's between 25 and 26 seconds slower, but if the bottle wasn't required for anything, then it would be faster for sure. So I don't know if it can be useful for anything else or not Link to video

So here we are, it took more than a year, but that's it, GIM is now possible on N64 c: Link to video

I have absolutely no idea whats going on. What was the relevant part in the video which wasnt possible before? Is it limited to the Ice Cavern?

Phallosvogel, I direct you to this post by Synx.

GIM does not work on an n64 because the n64 crashes. The only way to perform the glitch is with an emulator that emulates the game differently than an n64 would. The closest GIM gets to being legit is when performed on dolphin, since that is an official emulator by nintendo and there is a release of Ocarina of Time available for gamecube. Even so this is the "Nintendo 64 Games" subforum and therefore any run using GIM should be irrelevant here.
In short, what we thought was an emulation error might actually be usable in a run. To be more precise, GIM crashes on Real Hardware but not in an Emulated system, apparently due to inaccuracies in the graphics rendering systems. That there's Real Hardware usage of GIM is very exciting, even if the route is trash, since that opens the door for GIMing in other places.

ok,but why is it doable on ice cavern and not on deku tree?

I think the reason GIM crashes on N64 is that there are some graphical effects the N64 can't handle in that situation. Apparently, they found a way to lock the camera in a specific way to prevent these effects from loading. I'm just quoting what I heard from ZFG in a stream...

Well, Andy, that's actually wrong, Kanata posted a picture on Twitter where we can clearly see the graphical glitch on screen and he's on N64 (https://twitter.com/kanata2s/status/724783344601292800?lang=fr) so for now we just have no idea how he got it, and testing on emu is so annoying the result is always random (sometimes I just get absolutely nothing... So for now I'll try to do that on my N64 PAL but it will take time and I'll also ask some other people who have a N64

That's really interesting. I guess this trick isn't understood as well as people thought. But knowing the history of this game, I'm sure the community will learn more about this ^^

It's mysteries and making discoveries like this that keep me iterested in TASing, how do people even think to try something like this? I'll be eagerly awaiting the detailed explanation once it's figured out, but for now, pretty cool stuff!

So I just confirm I got the GIM the way Kanata did it on my own PAL N64, I only crashed once before getting it I may edit this message for further explanations (I don't know much for now)

Looks damn amazing, I really hope you'll continue doing this ;) What I've always been wondering: When climbing the vines in deku, why do you have to drop down at first and reclimb the last section to clip to the top?

Thanks :). I'm trying my best to get this done and as optimized as i possibly can, also for the deku tree vine part, it matters how your position is to get the clip, and as far as i know, there is no other way of getting it without dropping then regrabbing the vines

Made a test of this at the beginning of this month, it enters hyrule field the exact same frame as the last any% tas did, but i think what i did is improvable, so i think doing zora's river this way would be faster by just a few frames Link to video

Always wanted to time this strategy, nice to see that it has indeed a chance to be faster. IIRC in any% using chus we wouldn't have a sword, would we? Would probably need a completely new timing test then.

As far as I remember, it doesn't get sword, in the beginning, you would buy 2 deku sticks and deku nuts in the kokiri shop, 1 deku stick would've been used to wess in hyrule field, the other one was for blank a to get chus. But I don't think any of this matters anymore anyways thanks to the GIM method, it's now possible on N64, but there is a certain way you got to do it, haven't looked too much into it, but nobody pulled off getting bottle in deku tree yet as far as i know of.

Do you think there will be a way to pull off N64 GIM in Deku?

For now no one got it in deku but I'm working on it and Kanata too (it's just really annoying to test with the RNG + the fact I'm on PAL...) Kanata got it in bottom of the well and he got it with stick and magic (even if he crashed with a stick in his video, he told me he got it once)

I came close to trying this strategy after the last any% but I thought it'd be too unlikely to be faster, but if this actually does end on the same frame (and this looks greatly improvable) I may TAS this in the coming days.

It might depend on what item you get, which means there might not be anything too usefull to be gained from N64 GIM. --- I'm still thinking about the chu route. At least that's 100% legit on N64 and maybe somebody wants to tas it at some point. I'm wondering about getting sword in it. On the negative side sword is a little out of the way and you'd have to use the crawl space further away in botw, since you'd have to use the blank-a method that uses text. On the plus side you'd never have to visit a shop (item text outside of the shop is faster) or collect any rupees (no throwing rocks) and having the sword speeds up ZR and HF.
