Okay, RIGHT when I get out of the water to enter the fishing pond, the rooster yells. I didnt do the sword/stick trick because it is ANNOYING at this moment. However, if I DO NOT make it there within' 3 seconds or so, I WILL need to do this. Here is a .m64 with no savestate, so everyone can confirm if there is a desynch, It should cut off right after entering the fishing house. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=F0D71E16664E0E54

On mine, you get to the lake but get stuck against the wall when trying to backwalk to the fishing hut. Not too much to go back and rerecord though (hopefully).

BTW, there was a bit of trouble last time since I didn't put some sort of disclaimer in the video saying it was done with emulator assistance, etc. Unfortunately, I still have no idea how to do this...
I don't know either, but you might find some hints on this page: http://tasvideos.org/HowToMakeAVI.html subtitle adding should be generic across all emulation platforms. Depending on your encoding process, you'll find the right hints there - at least I found some for mencoder when skimming through. By the way, thanks for taking the time to encode this!

The movie desynced after the witches scene, it ends with Link grabing the ledge.

There aren't any instructions for making AVIs from Mupen64 there. While I assume they would be similar to the other instructions, it appears that I'm missing subfont.ttf and that the fps of the logo seems to be emulator-specific. Does anyone know anything about those? I'll probably be able to do the encoding overnight tonight at the earliest, assuming I find/get info about making the disclaimer by then, so it looks like the AVI won't be up until tomorrow morning.

Yeah, you start jump slashing the wall, and it ends shortly afterwards. No big deal, I hope. Well, I started playback from a savestate (my own, which was created right when you hop the gerudo fence), so that could be a source of a problem. I don't have time to play it from the beginning, so can someone else confrim? I gotta go to work now.

I have not followed this thread, but a run of Zelda OoT would be rather interesting to see. Reading 700+ posts is rather appalling, though, so could someone post a summary of what is happening with this run?

I played it from the beginning and got no desync. He gets into the fishing hut and stops.

No desynch here. * Looks like you're going to want to do the sword/stick alternating trick to gain every second you can. * I'm pretty sure Link's House -> Kokiri Forest exit could have been done more efficiently. * Try to avoid hitting walls while you backwalk.

GB didn't use it when he travelled across Hyrule Field to lake hylia... Frankly, I've never seen it being done in any video. Are you sure it saves time? Hopefully 15 seconds of a buffer...

Problably because none of the existing videos was tool-assisted. mwl said it's too risky on a console-run, because you lose lots of time if you don't get it right.

Then how does he know it saves time?

The trick is difficult to pull off consistently because it requires very precise timing (see AKA's description of its execution.) I can pull it off about 1 in 15-20 tries in real-time with a few minutes of practice, and I'm sure the success rate can be improved significantly with slowdown and even more practice. The reasoning is that pulling the stick out provides a small boost to Link's backwalking speed and, when done over a lengthy backwalk, saves a few seconds of precious time.

I did load from a save state, but from the beginning of the spirit temple. I'll run it again and see if i get no desync. [Space Reserved for Edit]

You know what would have been cool, is on Princess Ghoma, if Link did a backflip with a shot from the slingshot and nailed her. Would be pretty entertaining.

I got the latest WIP to run all the way to the end with no desyncs (standing in fishing pond), looks good Guano. I loaded one of Guano's previously posted Spirit Temple saves, which luckily didn't cause it to desync.

Have you seen this clip from Acryte? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWKNk-NnhVI Just align yourself with the seam after climbing the vine, and backwalk towards it. Turn around and walk up the seam. Then, turn around and backwalk towards the moat for the bombchu blast. Also, check for desynchs before you attempt this.

Well, I've found out how to add the disclaimer. Thanks to everyone who helped with that. If anyone wants to download a 30-second clip and tell me if the disclaimer should say anything else, feel free to do so here. I'm planning to encode the full "segment 1" overnight and upload it tomorrow morning, if it's done by then.

It desyncs when you're trying to climb the vines when I use the save state. =( Let me try without the save state. This may take a while. . . . Edit: Okay, it worked when I played it from the beginning. That owl seems to always cause desyncing problems whenever he opens his mouth. The camera seems to angle itself really differently when you use savestates. I loved how awkward the jumping past the guards was. Jumping around in the prerendered areas looks odd in general, but the ending of that guard area took the cake for me.
