Discovered by FierceLinkMaster, this new super method is much faster than backwalking. It'll change the route for anyone attempting a run for OoT. Check it out: Video (by the way, as Fierce said, it works for both Ocarina of Time and Majorask Mask)

Wow, that could change all runs from now on... Guano, are you just gonna use that trick from now on in the run, or start over and use it?

I'm not starting over. That technique after watching it, will be used a lot from here on. I just need to find the best way to execute it. It would have been hard for me to use it after the spirit temple because I only had bombchu's. Now with bombs I can do it whenever. But I need a shield correct? After the graveyard, ill do it. BTW mwl, why do I get squished by the last door in Dampe's tomb?

Squished: You warp to the start of the race. I haven't watched Fierce's vid yet, as my work comp lacks the proper codecs (and I'm not allowed to download them, as we do analysis on video stuff), but it seems like you use a bomb boost to help you accelerate faster. Could this mean that for a new route, getting bombs ASAP is faster?

I dont think so. The greater bomb bag was a good idea and the fastest I think, since I will have 30.

Wait... If you can use this bomb boost super slide technique, it will eliminate the need for the owl warp which caused such a problem earlier.

no, the owl warp saved time for night/day transitions. Time does not flow talking to anyone in the game(im 99% positive on that). The clouds will move but if you leave the game running, it will still be the same time, night/day.

AKA has verified that this trick can be used to enter Ganon's Castle without activating the rainbow bridge.

My point was that you wouldn't have to use the warp because with the bomb slide you can move fast enough to make it to the courtyard before it turns night. You'd save more day/night time with the owl, but as long as you get to the courtyard in time, it's faster in realtime not to. Right?

Depends, you have to climb the ladder, then the 30 second backwalk. But you need a bomb to do this, I only had bombchu AND a tight budget for the bombchu.

No I haven't, I said it was inconclusive since I hadn't done a good solid attempt at it yet. Here is potentially how useful this trick could be with hover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaeNL4XIB-o Edit: I estimate that Link can travel anywhere between 1.5 to 2.0 the distance that can be achived with a hover boost/ mega jump.

You said it was easy as pie, so I assumed... Bah, I'll read it again... Edit: I see now that you meant the gap in shadow... how stupid of me.

Actually, you can also get the door to close and have Link jump back into the room with Dampe in it and that will do the same thing as having Link be crushed. I wonder which would be more entertaining?

Hmmm, after Shadow Temple it might be faster to exit to Hyrule Field. If you could get a straight trajectory, you could slide to nearby the Kokiri Forest that might be faster than the Goron City warp.

But is it faster? ;) Edit: I jumped right into that one, didn't I?

I can fully confirm that it is possible to get into Ganon's castle early, but Acryte needs to show a successful attempt of the valley of doom. His failed attempt is on youtube, but he says he managed to do it once he had a bombchu. In order to make Ganon early worth while you would need the bottle adventure or FW.

That last update was _incredibly_ well-done. You're improving greatly there...everything starting from King Dodongo looked pretty much perfect to me. The exact time taken for the child portion was 282,685 frames or 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 31.417 seconds. (I set the endpoint of the child portion as the exact instant when Guano pressed the A button to pull the Master Sword.) For AVI encoding purposes, Dacicus, I suppose you could include everything from the beginning to frame #285150 (1h 19m 12.50s), since Ganondorf entered the Sacred Realm and claimed the Triforce when Link was still a child. (There is no clear boundary between that cutscene and the one with Rauru as adult Link, but I think I made a fairly good estimate.) I have yet to run the entire movie to check for desynchs, so I hope the conversion will work out. It's a bummer that the "super sliding" trick wasn't discovered earlier, but I doubt it would have changed the order of the locations visited in the child portion. Without bombs, one would have to take full advantage of enemies. In Lake Hylia, for example, tektites could have been used to reach the Fishing Pond and owl more quickly. In Hyrule Field, could a peahat or stalchild trigger the slide? Since getting bombs in Dodongo's Cavern is at least a four-minute detour, I still don't think the trick can make up for that much lost time--it'd need to be done without explosives. I'll leave it to Guano to decide where he wants to "super-slide" in the adult portion, but for starters, Hyrule Field, DM Trail, and the Sacred Forest Meadow (once on top of the maze) are obvious places to take advantage of the new discovery. In any case, bombs take time to defuse, so it's always important to make sure that the time saved outweighs the time spent. Keep up the good work, and good luck on the poe boost =o It's all downhill after Shadow.

If you can do the seamwalk + leap of faith very fast, it might save time over the rainbow bridge cutscene.

So for the turbo backslide, you just roll into a block? Aren't there a million places you could do that as a kid?

Unlikey, unless its possible to do all that within 40 seconds since pausing wastes a lot of time. I would definitley pay to see Ganon Early be done over bridge cutscene just to say a human couldn't do this, withing the time period.

I've been following this run for a while now. I'm impressed with the amount of work that's gone in so far, and the overall quality. Guano, it must have been painful redoing those sections multiple times, but I'm glad you did. On another note, the run has gotten a big longer and I'm having difficulty loading savestates while retaining the movie playback. Whenever I load a savestate, it seems to go into rerecord mode, even when I've turned on read-only mode. Sorry to ask this, but could someone explain how do load save states in mupen? How am I failing?
I ought not to tie the knot too taught.

If you load a state without having read only checked you've messed up the m64 file, so download it again and check read only when you load the state.
