The level entrance to Bowser 2.

You mean the hole behind the Dire Dire Docks entrance?

Isn't it in front of the Dire Dire Docks entrance?

It starts out behind, then the water moves back when you board Bowser's sub.

Good point. In any case, I don't see a way to get back there... and, unless one is found I don't think there is a way to load the area behind the second Bowser key door to go upstairs. Of course, this may all unravel at some point but I doubt it and also kind of hope not since a 16 star run remains interesting to watch while something as glitched as what I just mentioned may not be as enjoyable.

Yeah, I remember some message board topic where people were trying to find a way to sneak past the water...

here is a potential idea for you spezzafer, if you have to board the sub to open bowsers second level. It would seemingly avoid the lag present in your current movie, which would save a small amount of time.

EXCELLENT FIND! btw, Spezzafer, please test getting on the back of the sub as well instead of making the steps appear (you can swim right up to the fin/propellar end and hop up).

here you go it's now up to the 14th star, right before the MIPS chase I didn't take the other route to the LLL/SSL room (which would allow for a shorter path to the HMC room with Toad) since you need 12 stars for Toad to appear in the HMC room, and at that point I only had 9 and the two stars in HMC would still only raise it to 11 which is not enough for him to show up. This would require I make two treks back and forth for Toad and the 2 HMC stars, so I didn't use it (besides, its slower than the normal way). The Bird star in SSL is faster than the Bully star in LLL (by about 1 second), and the Falling Rocks one in HMC is much faster than both of those so you can guess what I changed here.

The WIP file seems to be about the right size, but it gets loaded as being 0 frames long. =(

That happened to Nrg too, but it worked for Dehacked and me.

Worked fine for me with Mupenv7. The video is looking very nice, I especially liked the delayed breaking of the wall you flew by in the caged star in Whomp's Fortress.

I can only assume that some people are playing the movie incorrectly, from the basically-zero details that I've seen so far about the 0-frame thing. First of all, something like this should appear in the play movie dialog: play_mario_dialog.gif If it doesn't (if it says 0 (0) frames, for instance), that means something's already wrong - possible causes that come to mind are: not actually specifying the file's real location, trying to play the file without unzipping it first, trying to play a corrupted download, or using a several-versions-old mupen64-rerecording. About the movie, it's looking good. Breaking the wall when you completely missed it was neat (it would have been better if it somehow saved you from having to do it a second time, but of course that's impossible since the level resets for each star). One question: why not do something while waiting for Bower's key to become pick-up-able?

p.s. I got it to work fine in Mupenv7, so I assume it's something to do with using the old emulator revision

Why would you need to break the wall twice?

I like what I see. I'm looking forward to the finished result with super awesome bowser worlds. I hope someone starts on 70 and/or 120 star runs soon.
Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. What Truth? There is nospoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that changes, it is only yourself

Hmm... I think there must be something wrong with the way the "In the Talons of the Big Bird" star is being done here, unless either Curtis Bright's record time on the level isn't right or he used the wing cap - he got 0:17.x and this only gets 0:19.7 on that star. (Fastest Star Times) edit: And yes, I believe those times are fully compareable for runs of this game, and most of the other (applicable) records listed are at least a couple of seconds slower than in this. The timing used there starts when the screen starts fading out from white to the level, and ends when mario starts dancing with the star.

Have you tested to see if it's faster to go to Shifting Sand Land before Lethal Lava Land? Edit: Yeah, what Nitsuja said about In the Talons of the Big Bird. Have you tried the strat in Martin's vid? Maybe it's some kind of weird optical illusion and turns out being slower, but it definitely looks faster by quite a bit. http://rapidshare.de/files/6535070/talon_final.wmv.html

Hmm, I see what you mean... I always wondered if it was beneficial to attack the bird earlier to release the star earlier, but I figured Spezzafer had tried it and decided it wasn't worth it because you don't end up on the side of the pyramid where you can get it rapidly (plus with the Fly Guy, you end up in that slow spinning fall).

Ah, I didn't realize that a new version had come out, since I don't bother to check the emulator forum often. Now it works.

According to this fastest star times page the Red-Hot Log Rolling star in LLL is extremely fast - is this only possible with the red cap, or why don't you do that? Apart from that, awesome! :)
