I can think of a reason or two. What if the doors open based on how many keys you have instead of which keys you have? then getting the "2nd" bowser key would only be good to open the first bowser door.

Pretty certain it is the walk under water cheat, being able to walk on steep slopes seems to be a side effect of the code. Heres the code: A1253DAC 0000 A1253DAE 0000 A1253DB0 0000 A1253DB2 0000 Also the keys are specific towards thier own doors not that it matters any more unless someone actully finds a real way in.

I think this is quite obviously fake. The speed from the BLJ would be canceled out after hitting the "sky" nearly above the waterfall, and therefore the slide down after it wouldn't have any more speed than normal (certainly not enough to go through the water). It seems that the maker of that video has enough knowledge of the game that, if this weren't GS'd, he would recognize the significance of what he did there. Obviously I'd love to be proven wrong here.

My sarcasm seems to have gone unnoticed (yes, I knew you were talking about the version of the cart. I was pointing out that the version of the cart wouldn't matter if all he did was slap a gameshark on it. *sigh*) In any case, to answer your question, there are only four version of Super Mario 64 with the [!] moniker: (U), (J), (E), and Shindou Edition (J) [!]. And if one version had such substantially different physics than all the others, I would assume that there would also be noticeable differences in normal gameplay. This isn't to say that the trick couldn't be legit, but it's highly unlikely.

Hahaha, you guys are arguing like freakin politicians. Listen, there was in way, not one solitary way, I used a cheat device to complete the tricks used in that video. Although, I do understand some of these tricks seem to go against all what we understand is possible in the game, this should not be anyway to accuse me of cheating and/or hacking the gameplay. Who was the idiot who thought that I was using the walk underwater cheat anyways? Are you guys that retarded to think I used such a cheat, even though when I entered the moat door, I immediately floated to the top of the water. You guys still gonna fight over this? Hah, good for you, I would be more than happy to setup a time to make a live stream of me demonstrating some of the tricks used in this video. Then we'll see who's fucked more in the head than a gameshark fucking up a game. Goodbye.

Use Mupen64 Rerecording v8: http://www.bluetoaster.net/emu/rec.htm Recording input is found under the tools menu (IIRC). EDIT: He means that using an .m64 will allow reproduction of this glitch. If you prove it this way, those who don't believe you will be wrong.

I can't speak for anyone else, but as I said before, I would quite honestly be happy if this was real. It would probably shave at least 10 seconds off the 0 star TAS. It just doesn't seem very plausible.

The problem is you've done overly simple things which goes against the games basic logic. If 6-7 highly knowledgable are saying "that definitley doesn't happen normally" then serious doubts are going to be raised.

The water collision works the exact same way as it does in OoT. It's not the same as SM64DS where surface checks get done. BTW, I did try the trick out for myself before I drew any conclusions and I did study your video carefully while attempting. I did a warp style blj which would have had a more optimal effect than what was demonstrated in your video, and a version which pretty much replicates what you did frame for frame. Neither of them were successful. I then downloaded your video and studied it frame by frame for any oddities, and I noticed there was 3 particular frames which caught my eye. You had running animation on a slope which Mario would normally slide on. This defies basic game logic, but can however be replicated by a walk underwater cheat.

I lol at you, sir, for you think you are the only one to have used this GS code before. It has been a while since I messed around with GS in this game, but I remember enough to call you out. Using the "Walk Up Hills" code posted above allows you to walk up virtually any hill. It also lets you walk underwater in the outside the castle area. But when you enter the moat door, even if you have drained the moat, you will start swimming immediately. (if you have drained the moat, you will be in invisible water). So thank you, come again. Maybe next time you'll fail less. :| Also, I'll be happy to take a video of this to prove my point.

Hmm, I swear I've seen you somewhere before..whatever Anyways, I would be more than happy to make a .m64, however I have never used Mupen before and I do need someone to teach me how to make one, so can someone here explain to me briefly on how to make one?

Download and install the emulator mentioned here. It is a modified version of Mupen 64 to implement rerecording. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2934 Open a Super Mario 64 (U) [!] Rom (We cannot give or direct you to this at TASVideos, it is against forum policy.) Wait till the game sufficiently boots up to the intro screens. Go to: Utilities -> Movie -> Start Movie Recording (Check from start.) Optimally you would need a USB controller to play like you would want to on a Nintendo 64. If you could prove that you can reproduce this without cartridge tilting on an N64 without gameshark, we would possibly consider it legitimate as well. If you're so confident you can reproduce this why don't you just tell us how, because it certainly can't be done by conventional means.

I'd prefer proving on the N64, but how would you want me to prove that? As for the Mupen, thanks. I will try this out, but I am going to buy a gamepad controller since I am absolutely terrible with the keyboard. Is it okay if I use autofire on these runs?

I thought of something you can do until then. Since you're fine with filming yourself doing it on the N64, you can do exactly what you did in the video, but instead of going into the moat entrance, just get out of the water and hop back in normally; no slides or big jumps from the waterfall, just walk right in from the slope near the back of the castle. If you automatically start swimming, it would certainly help your case until you get a gamepad.

There's also the TAS input plugin which allows for very precise analog stick positioning. Useful for frame-by-frame movement but kind of useless if you want to play at full or half speed or whatever. and autofire is of course ok no matter the case.
