This discussion is required to come up every 20 pages or so, right? I decided to humor myself and attempt this a bit. I'm sure I found stuff most of you already knew. I messed around by the slope on the right side of the castle. I managed to take falling damage in the water one instant (mario's legs smash down), and began swimming almost immediately afterwards. I hit at what I would consider the threshold of where mario goes between swimming and standing. This leads me to believe that even if we somehow managed to take damage at the bottom of the moat as seen in the video, we would instantly begin swimming afterwards. Also, I would rule it not possible to make the dive he makes off the cliff. It is literally impossible to BLJ to the top of that hill and follow it that quickly with a jump dive. As AKA stated he runs for a few frames on the hill which is not possible under those circumstances. I thought I'd bring this point up for speculation. If there was some way to stand inside the castle wall when dropping down to the moat we could feasibly be inside the wall one frame and opening the door the next. In this video by Soulrivers, he is seen swimming on either side of the door, but does not ever have a pose that suggests he is standing even when crossing the wall. This leads me to believe that there is literally no way to do this unless we glitch mario into a state where he can stand underwater. Another somewhat feasible option is bypassing the water and being standing on the floor of the moat within a 1 frame gap, which we currently have no way of doing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOI4fU8_nmE I'm going to have to go with. Well, I suppose one thing to try would be to take damage directly in front of the door and see if he'll open it. IIRC, you can still open doors even while taking fall damage. Unless, of course, someone's already tried it. Then I've got nothing.

You would have to gain ridiculous falling speed. Something we have no way of accomplishing currently. From a normal high fall, water won't even completely submerge mario without putting him into the swimming animation.

This guy also made a youtube video of getting behind the upstairs key door by BLJing on the highly sloped lobby ceiling directly above the door, if you want more evidence that he's using a code that allows standing on impossible slopes. I think a camcorder video like he's been doing, in which the full N64, including the front of it and the 3 spare controller ports, the cartridge in it, and the cord that goes from it to the TV (need front input), and possibly the controller and controller cord, are all within the video frame at once, while such a trick is done, would be proof enough. If he stalls on that, then you know for sure...

Do we know the memory addresses for Mario's speed? And, if so, what are they?

Hey guys, so I got Mupen to work and the trick is working, however when recording is on, the video is lagging like a bitch, and it is very hard to play.. Turning on Jabo's plugin makes it a little better, but the game is pretty unplayable :-\ I am running Windows Vista with 3gb ram and an ATI Radeon x1270 graphics card

That is what I suggested I'd do before... I can do this, and do the .m64 thing...but I might need some time to figure out the m64 crap, and I need a game controller for the computer, because I can't play on the keyboard for my life

Use the TASinput plugin, and do it in frame advance.

Sounds like you're trying to record an avi. You want to record a movie file (m64) instead. There shouldn't be any lag with that. Utilities>Movie>Start Movie Recording.

Well, so there's some proof that disqualifies DRybes' claim of BLJ'ing on the highly sloped lobby. I actually remember hearing of a glitch that gets Mario stuck up there, so this shows that you can BLJ while stuck up there (or maybe just up there in general, but whatever). I think what most of us want to see is jumping through the moat water, but at least you have started to show that you aren't cheating on some of your videos (and future videos may prove that you are not cheating at all on these surprising discoveries). DISCLAIMER: I did not do any fine analysis on this video, I'm just assuming that given the obvious evidence it was legit.

After testing (doing EXACTLY what you did) and failing to get it, I'm still calling BS. How do we know this isn't just recorded footage that you're pretending to be playing? Or that there isn't another N64 behind the TV being played by someone else? I'll believe it when I see the m64. And you still haven't proven the underwater thing.

Just to add to this. It's interesting that there's no clicking whatsoever coming from the controller you're playing on...surely the mic capturing your voice and the noise from the TV speakers would be able to detect the much more local clicking from your controller, especially during the BLJs. Speaking of those BLJs, they are quite remarkable. It seems like you're pressing A exactly 15 times a second for at least two seconds. Was there a turbo controller you didn't mention? Finally, as Swordless mentioned, the moat glitch is the much more significant of the two; we'd all like to see that more. Still patiently awaiting that m64. EDIT: seems like you did mention turbo use before. Did you happen to use it for the main glitches as well? This would make sense.

...Goddamnit. First of all, you're not doing it right then.. Are you lining up with the corner and then diving when you hit the corner while following it with a kick? That's what you have to do, you're probably not doing it right, it takes practice. Oh psh, right, another N64 behind my TV? Hahahaha and then an assistant playing? Hahaha that's creative. If you are accusing me of that, to that extent, then no one would ever be able to prove anything buddy. I am sorry you can't do the trick, and I can, but that doesn't make it fake, and if you seriously still think this is fake, you should be in a mental hospital.

I believe you're insulting more people than you think here. :/ I'll be serious, though. What's hard to believe aren't the tricks themselves (although they do seem kind of...far fetched). What's unbelievable is that these tricks (apparently) don't require any kind of amazing skill at the game, or superhuman abilities like the 1/0 star discoveries do. These seem like perfectly normal, easy tricks, and therefore it's very confusing that after 10 years of release, and millions of people playing the game (and we've all messed with the castle ceiling area there at one point or another), this kind of thing would only be discovered now. This is what makes it hard to believe.

Okay then, give us an m64 of it. Since you can do the "trick," you shouldn't have any problems recreating it in Mupen. When can we expect an m64?

Are you blind or something? I CLEARLY showed that I was using an autofire controller at the beginning. It sure seems like you guys aren't even watching the full video..

Hmm, I am not quite sure when, I am still trying to figure this out, and I have to find a computer running Windows XP and do the m64 because mupen crashes whenever I try to make the movie file..and I was told it is because I am using Vista I honestly do not know when I will have one up by..

I have Vista and it works fine for me. Everyone else has Vista, and it works fine for them. But yeah, I totally believe this. I honestly do not know when I will have one up by.. When Mupen has a GameShark function built into it, maybe?

To be an unbiased party, mupen sucks my balls every time I try to run it. I think swordless is jumping the gun on the whole "what are the odds" argument. Of course, you WILL have to get a working .m64 file to get these guys' respect ;)

Dude, you seriously are taking this WAY far..like, I honestly don't even know why I am posting here. I'm some random dude posting videos of shit I discover in this game, and now I got every TASer on the planet on my ass like I committed first degree murder or something.. Like, for Christ sakes, do you guys seriously think I'd actually pull off what you guys are accusing me of? Like, do you guys think I am off trying to make some crazy new official record and win money for it? For crying out loud, take your heads out of your asses and wake up! I am 15 years old, and I have MUCH better/important things to worry about than this. I am so SICK of being called a cheater just because I do something new, and so SICK of wasting my time making videos to shut people up, its just so unbelievable. You know, I actually have a life, and I don't sit on my ass working on little cute Mario movies all day...and I am sorry that I do not have the time and patience to figure out some confusing ass recording file just because some random people on a forum want me to. So you know what people? Shut the fuck up and calm down, I gave you my proof, and if you guys STILL think it is fake, you guys go ahead and rant and cry about it like little fucking children. I don't care anymore. You guys have no open minds whatsoever, and it is so hilarious how hard headed you fools are.

Incidentally, the video was great, and definitely a step closer to a resolution. Now if we could just get an upgrade to m64, we'll be set.

Occam's Razor, this is not. You do a pretty good job of sounding like a jackass though. As far as the .m64 goes, I doubt that one will surface (possibly due to faked-ness, and possibly due to both Vista and Mupen sucking), but if the techniques truly are possible in real time, I doubt it will take long for them to be reproduced.
