Whoever it was that mentioned getting Mario to take damage underwater, what exactly did you do to do this?
My only guess here would be that you'd have to fall from height, land on something, and slide off into the water while damage was still registering on the meter, which is probably not adequate. Unless there's a surface that registers hitting it as damage somewhere on the way down (such as inside that column that leads to the opposite side of the moat door, but then you'd be on the wrong side of the door)

Basically, either krohn7master will make a .m64 showing the glitch and someone will start making a new 0 star run
This won't happen. He has already claimed that the moat glitch was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and there was little chance he would ever get it again. Meanwhile, even if he could prove the BLJ into BitDW with an m64, it would be far slower than what we have currently, and pointless in a 0 star TAS.
Yep, it's only of use to a console player, and from the looks of things, the pillar BLJ is still easier even if this turns out to be legit, since it's apparently not too easy to do... I don't suppose there's a way to glitch yourself into the cannon/cannon hole, but do cannon physics allow more headroom when landing in water or are things the same? I was trying to think of some way to get completely below the landscape but now that I think about it this doesn't achieve anything of value, I've been thinking of the invisible water in OoT.... oops

I'm not sure how or why they would program a animation routine to be an exception to the frame check for mario's water state, what makes you even suspect such?

I wish to back up Kirk's statement about taking fall damage under water as I have done it several times myself. It involved falling into shallow water that was just barely deep enough for Mario to be swimming in. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here...

Because animations system and controls are directly related to each other, so sometimes programmers do these kinds of checks on specific parts of the animation system.

collision stuff
Collision in water is likely like so: Water volumes likely have a minX and a maxX and same for Y. If Mario's X GREATERTHAN water's minX and mario's X LESSTHAN water's maxX and mario's Y GREATERTHAN water's minY and mario's Y LESSTHAN water's maxY and mario's Z LESSTHAN water's surface Z (maxZ?), then underwater. Edit: bbcode needs to stop destroying this post. :( I've fixed it like 3 times now EDIT4: JESUS CHRIST BBCODE STOP FUCKING WITH GREATER THAN AND LESS THAN
see the lessthan and greaterthan signs are html delimiters, so if you want to output the symbols use character entity references: lt; and gt; prefixed by & (< and >) edit: Is there no way to type those symbols?

There's a little checkbox that says 'Disable HTML in this post', which is probably a good place to start. If X < Y && Y > Z do ( >'.')>
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

oh. whatever, my point got across. if the check is indeed like I said then it would be impossible* to stay standing underwater once that animation exception or whatever is done. the only way you could stay underwater is if it did a plane collision check of the water's surface to mario's entire hitbox. which a) seems silly and b) we know at least to not be true inside the castle since mario warps to the surface in the gameshark vid. But hey it might be different for the moat. I know for a fact that if you can go beneath the surface of water without actually touching the water surface in banjo-kazooie (click clock wood during spring, for example) and banjo-tooie (various broken seams in jolly roger lagoon) and other games, the game lets you walk underwater until you do touch the surface. But that doesn't mean anything for the case at hand so whatever. *probably

Actually, I didn't know that trick was possible until I came here.

Yeah, I was like: lol...wuh? But a collision check for the whole hitbox? Metal mario?

Uhh this might interest you guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuQ19D0EVjw This guy made mario die underwater without the drowning animation, although its hard to see because he started recording late. Also remember to lol at him freaking out.

I think that's very different. Mario took the damage before he landed in the water (or Bubba "swallowed" him, but he didn't disappear), rather than took fall damage in the water.

Okay, but there was no way bubba swallowed him becaue he was in the big mario tiny island part of the course :P.

Judging by the rest of the video, he took damage from the flame, which essentially places damage on you over time, and then died just before/while jumping into the water. We could feasibly recreate that by the slope outside the castle by jumping into the water from high up with 1 health left and killing ourselves underwater, but I doubt this would be beneficial seeing as in the video he just died and respawned. Interesting video though.

Regarding the multi-page flame war/wankfest: Couldn't... I dunno... other people try to make .m64 movies of those glitches? Not once did I see someone say "Hey, I tried to recreate that glitch in Mupen", it was all "HEY FAGGET Y DONT U DO IT". I could be mistaken, and I fully expect to be called a retard if I am indeed, mistaken, given the nature of the forums, of course!
If you see me posting, I'm most likely being a douche. <small>Working on: not ever coming here again</small>

From the top of page 208: After testing (doing EXACTLY what you did) and failing to get it, I'm still calling BS. And I still do. Both RZ and AKA tried to help krohn with making an m64 over IM, and both times, he's delayed it by making up excuses to get out of it. I mean, sure, he might've really had to leave at those times, but it seems highly suspicious that every time he's asked to prove it with an m64, he has to leave, especially since even now, no one else has pulled off these "glitches."

1. 3 to 4 knowledgeable people tried to recreate an .m64 based on what they saw. 2. All of us fail, while some of the others scratch their heads in bemusement. 3. After analysing the video frame by frame I realised a strange walking on hills effect which is most common when a game shark is used. 4. The guy who originally made the video then registered on the forums trying to claim his trick was real. 5. Most of us weren't convined so we told him to recreate what he did on a .m64, but he said he would make a video proving beyond doubt that it was legitimate. In the process he throws a hissy at just about everyone, ignoring key accusations and focusing on the less relevent parts. 6. He then posts a video which to a novice would be absolute proof, but some of us still weren't convinced, based on the idea that a video can potentially be faked using an array of methods. 7. He then throws another string of hissys at several people, again ignoring key accusations. 8. He then said he would make an .m64, but claims to have trouble using Mupen 9. After several people PMed him on AIM he used a number of stalling techniques and inadvertently tries to escape conversations altogether i.e krohn7master (22:40:41): Oops krohn7master (22:42:58): I think its AIM that is slowing down the computer krohn7master (22:43:03): I'll be back later to check in AKA (22:43:12): AIM uses very little processor power krohn7master (22:43:44): I'm using a different client AKA (22:43:52): Closing down IE or FF would be more effective In the process he claimed that pulling the trick was one of those "once in a lifetime" things. Which couldn't possiblty be true given that what he did was so straightforward, and the fact that he managed to pull another equally impossible trick with ease. EDIT: Forgot there is still 10 days left to prove it.

Point 3 is always PROFIT, but we're arguing on the internet, so it's clearly not relevant.

My general impression is that you guys are either being trolled or you're dealing with somebody who simply cheated and is lying. The best way to disprove this would be to try to replicate his exact input (with and without the codes, preferably), and I think I am seeing people say that they've tried this, then I would say it's almost certainly a hoax. He probably did not realize he would attract the attention of the TAS community and simply wanted to post a cool YouTube video. Once again, from his replies, he's either immature enough to be flat-out lying or he's playing that up to get a reaction, in which case he's still an immature jerk. I'd still like to remind people that finding a way to get through that door is currently the most obvious way to cut down the run time by a huge leap, so don't let one (likely) hoaxer completely discourage your efforts to get through there.
