So wait, correct me if I'm wrong, there are two runs of SM64 being worked right now, right? Kyman is working on the not glitched 70 stars run, but I seem to remember that someone else was working on a renewed 120 stars run, complete with new glitches and strategies to obsolete the existing one... That, and I doubt that the 0 stars run is improvable further.

From what I understand Brainstormer did find a few spots a while ago where frames could be saved, but I don't know anyone whose actually working on it atm.

That's a shame :( Apparently all the interest nowadays is towards other games, you know it's a bad day when the thread for Ocarina of Time gets more replies than this one :\

The improvements are so small that there is no point of redoing the 0 star TAS.

Good.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I missed them, how small? Just like a few frames throughout? I'm guessing the only way to improve it anymore would be to get in the moat door? =/

Honestly, I think it's hard to argue at this point that SM64 has much of a TAS audience left, besides the hardcore framewar members. I don't think it's a good thing or a bad thing, it's just a thing. I admit I'm not part of the group that follows it so voraciously, but there IS the novelty of watching such a revolutionary game get the special treatment. Few games get as broken as this one has.

I know I'm still looking forward to a new 120 star run, but I also realize that we need to keep finding techniques for speeding up individual stars so that the final run is as good as possible and won't have to be restarted due to new discoveries, hopefully.

So I was watching a video on nicovideo (2 guys trying to get 8 red coins while a mushroom chases them), and at the end of the video they showed an outtake of a failed attempt. To sum it up in words, mario was on one of the collapsing blocks in Whomp's Fortress (the kind that I think only exist there and at the end of BitFS) and exited the course as the block was falling. Instead of landing on the sun mosaic thing in the lobby, they landed behind the upstairs key door. I wonder how the block changed mario's exit position and if that could be abused in a tas. Like maybe exit course into/near the next painting or whatever.

That's the basement door. Mario just falls through the floor in the entrance hall. I don't think you can use it for anything else...

I should have phrased my original post more graciously. I apologize. I still like checking this thread, obviously, and I usually watch the new stuff when it's linked. What I mean to say is that it feels to me like SM64 TASing has already seen most of its brokenness. It's hard to believe there's much less to do. I eagerly await being proven wrong on that assertion.

I would have thought that any other 'big' find must just be effectivly a 'press this to win the game' button. In that the next 'big' any% TAS of SM64 wont really be a TAS of the game at all. Just, 'intro' 'glitch' 'credits.' And I can not see that grabbing the attention as of many people that your standard run would.

Oh right, forgot about the BBH ones. And sorry, you watch the video by either having an account there or using this link: http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/sm6188097

With the current route, it is impossible to get snowman's lost his head because you must do frosty slide for 8 red coins first. So I'm starting to think BBH is worth it.
