Actually, I think flash relies entirely on the CPU. That's why watching a video in youtube's flash player uses so much more CPU compared to downloading the mp4 and just watching it in a standalone media player.

Is it still slower to BLJ on the lower set of stairs leading upstairs and then going through the 50 star door? It really doesn't appear that way.

I think it would be slower but I've never actually tested it.

It's a combination of the two. While Flash does execute client-side (hence the CPU issue) it still streams the data from somewhere, which is why connection speed also matters. It's processor dependant, but Flash generally does not heavily tax the CPU; it's usually bandwidth that bottlenecks streaming videos. I only wish Macromedia Flash Developer also didn't rely so heavily on processing power too lol...

Well flash video relies pretty heavily on CPU. It's really not very resource effective if you compare it to other codecs. And bandwith isn't really a problem with youtube since you can preload the videos...

Right, so, I heard that Super Mario 64 is a pretty cool game. (let's bring this thread back on topic, please)

Agreed, and also what Kirkq said, are you sure it wouldn't be possible to get a really quick side BLJ going on one of the earlier steps in the spiral staircase? Or perhaps warp up then do a side BLJ nearer the top. I'm sure we have a few side-bljing experts in the community who would be able to get close to or perhaps even beat the time taken to go through the door normally then straight up.

Also, another possible improvement would be to use the z+b trick on the 70 star door, so you would retain the forward long jump speed instead of starting from zero speed.

Actually it wouldn't be that much speed because you run to the 70 star door, and I don't think you can keep speed through that door.

Very nice, did you come up with the strat yourself?

Hah! It's about time someone used one of those crates to make a super jump. :)

Yes I came up with the strat all by myself. I wonder if it's possible to get enough speed and just jump kick to the mushroom.

Derakon: That strat has been used for years. The BLJ usage is new, however. :)

Keep up the good work, you guys. The 0-star run has had a couple of frames shaved off, yes? Well, once you guys find some other little improvement, I am looking forward to a new video...I know this site tends to prefer established runs, but Mario 64 is definitely getting into final framewar territory and I wouldn't mind seeing any new submissions for a final speedrun.

Also, I have to think that the next major sequence break could only be getting in through the outside door in the moat...I know you can't go through the water, but is there any way that it's possible to do a falling glitch through the edge of the castle and get behind the door, maybe? Anyway, keep up the good work.

See pages 1-231. It really comes up like every 20 pages or something. XD Closest video will explain why it isn't feasible at the moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOI4fU8_nmE

Nice, but you used Yoshi's triple jump, so I doubt this is usable in a TAS...

You can make it up the slope without the Yoshi's triple jump. It is just slower. The route has been used for years.

I just used a new trick that makes the water glitch faster and a log wallkick.

This is the m64 kyman based his run in, changing the .st of course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eWF5bR492g&fmt=35 It doesn't require the special tj, and this video shows a more optimized version of how to climb the mountain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYcn68e6zKg&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTroYOeWe5Y&fmt=35 New strat for 2 stars in RR , cruiser and somewhere over the rainbow. A good thing to note is that lakitu's manipulation is easily possible in the 120 star run. One thing I noticed while doing the slope part is that once mario lands from the grind having no input in the dust frames lets mario do more walking frames before he slides down, allowing a smoother turn to the pole. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwdg01M9w54 A strat found by Myles that was put to work and proven to be fast by LalaSM64. Probably faster than doing the TJ wallkick previously used, as this avoids grabbing the ledge, it should be combined with this run in the 120 star run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C4MyKZwqF4 Also according to Lala, a glitchy wallkick and a grinded double jump can be performed, making the strat even faster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYcn68e6zKg 6 frames faster than mine and no special triple jump. EDIT: Thanks to mr_roberts_z for letting me know that skipping the ledge is possible, and I also optimized it a bit more and got 14"13

I love when something I say leads to something awesome. Nice work, Kyman :D
