I apologize because this question is probably asked every page, but a quick CTRL + F did nothing for me: What's a rough estimate of when the 120-Star run will be complete?

And here I was thinking I'd heard Summer 2010. Well, at least my hopes were crushed now instead of later.

Maybe... maybe... Hey, just keep this in mind : There are 120 stars in the game + lots of side-BLJs. I could do a star per day but, usually, things like school and relationship are priorized. So, I could at least do a star per week, which me and Kyman are trying to. For now, we have pratically 4 stars done (if new routes aren't found). So, yeah, there is progress made and this run will more likely take a year or two. :)

Haha, I understand. I have several projects in the corner of the Internet I call home and I do the same :P I apologize if I came off as not understanding how time consuming TASes can be.

is it possible to enter the cannon outside the castle when there is the grid? I mean when you haven't have the 120 stars.
I think I remember seeing that there isn't even a usable cannon under there until the grid is removed, so no.
Thanks you for your answer. Too bad it is not possible.

Well. unless you wanted the cannon for a free run, it's not terribly useful, since anything you might need to do on the roof, you can do by jumping up there. And if it's just for testing purposes, you can just cheat it open to save time.

The ending here looks like it may be faster. Maybe not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSs-pSopMrY Also, an elevator BLJ may be about as fast since this route gets to the elevator a fair amount earlier. It depends how fast the elevator actually gets to the top though. Maybe it has already been proven slower. Probably stating obvious facts.

I believe the author of the sub 10 TAS did some trick to have more speed but less height jumpwise like in the other video. Anyway...

Also, it's probably worth testing bljing on the 30 star door stairs in the reverse direction to possibly get to SSL faster.
This does prove to be true as seen in this video from 0:52 to 1:00.

Cool :D how much planning went into this (read: how improvable is the route? :P) props for doing 1'33"7 :)

WoW. that BoB 100 coin was awesome! I guess you are trying to improve the current SM64 tases so good luck to you ;)

mapler90210 deserves credit for the route, and he TASed over half of it, as you can see from the annotations. And the only thing "improvable" would be Koopa manipulation to make him get there faster. But nobody knows for sure, how Koopa's speed works.

Endless Stairs BLJless Guess this takes the 70 star BLJless run away and makes a 50 star run. I'm most curious if something like this could be done to get through the 50 star door.

Alternatively, instead of calling the run "BLJ-less" it gets called "stays under natural speed limit" or something. Doesn't the hyperspeed walljump operate under similar principles as the BLJ anyway? Nice find, anyway. Hyperspeed walljumps always sound really weird.

Well, a BLJ is a linear acceleration (compared to velocity, exponential compared to time) overcoming a constant deceleration. HSWK is a constant acceleration overcoming a constant deceleration (I think). BLJing is an oversight of extrapolating the standard LJ acceleration into the negatives. (in fact the programmers realised this and imposed an artificial restriction on the backwards velocity of an LJ, a deceleration, which can be overcome by BLJing) The restriction on the forwards velocity of a long jump is a different type of long jump. In case you didn't know, there are two types of long jumps, which are visually identifiable. One type where Mario puts his hands in front of himself, and the other where he puts his hands behind. Above a certain velocity, Mario switches to the type of lung jump where he throws his hand behind himself, which no longer enjoys high rates of acceleration at the start of a jump. If Mario did not switch between types of long jumps, he could do a BLJ forwards as well. HSWK are an oversight due to the carry over of forward momentum when pressing A on the first frame possible, such that some subroutines are not properly executed (such as Mario's jump animation). Mario enjoys a small boost every time he wall jumps. As such, since no restrictions were applied on the upper bound of Mario's speed, Mario can accelerate indefinitely.
Measure once. Cut twice.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is ways to overcome the other star doors with HSWK.

I think it doesn't make sense to disallow BLJ and allow this instead. The operating principles may be different as per andymac's words, but the result looks, and in effect is, identical: Mario accelerates to otherwise unreachable speeds allowing him to pass through obstacles he isn't supposed to according to normal game physics.

8 stars done for now. Progress is made, but slowly. If you guys have any "optimized" run for the 120, please PM me. :)
