So feel free to join. =)

Well you won't get better unless you do it more. ;) I can personally attest to the fact that I gained all my basic SM64 TASing knowledge back in 2009 from competing in SilentSlayers' TAS competition. Man, I feel like a dinosaur now! XD

I have actually been thinking to start TASing this game for a while, so maybe I'll give a shot to those new TAS competitions that will come. I guess this first one is still to hard for me though.

To do a BLJ, keep holding Z as you do a regular long jump (on a stairwell, for example), then immediately hold back on the Control Stick, and when Mario touches the ground, mash A while still holding Z and the Control Stick backward. If you're doing it in real-time, you need to mash A as fast as you can. In a TAS, though, this becomes somewhat easier, as you can change your angle, do pause BLJs, side BLJs, etc.

Oh, I must have misunderstood your post. You said you had no idea how to BLJ, so I was happy to explain it to you.

tip: mario needs to walk at LEAST 2 frames before it can do a lj and you must press a 1 frame after z. and also when going back in a blj you can right click a and it will enable rapid fire for that key

Thanks for running this and putting together the compilation, SP! This is one of my favorite ways to watch a TAS, it's great to see a fuller exploration of the possibility space so you can see *why* the optimal route is optimal. And congrats on winning your bet ;)

http://www35.atwiki.jp/sm64tas/pages/31.html wait a sec wtf is Mysterious Mountainside 6″93? O_o I want to see that… also I came here to say that I had a strategy idea for it, doing a glitchy WK then another WK to jump up instead of a triple jump

You will see it when the 70 star will be submitted (soon). It's made by snark. It's not a new strategy or anything, just optimization.

Will the 70 star run use blj? If not, will it use any techniques that could potentially accelerate mario indefinitely?

it’s gonna use HSWK for a few stars, apparently but the definition of “HSWK” is debatable @Nahoc: that is insane, I honestly don’t believe it’s just optimization O_o
