I remember there being another no A run recently, did this beat that or what?
idk, but it dosen't beat the game, so there's good reason for it not to be published.
is that really such a strict rule?
Yep, I can tell you that from experience - even when a game has been 99% TASed, it's still not eligible for publishing. I really enjoyed watching that video while eating my lunch, it'd be great to see some other later levels such as TTC (jk) done without the A button too, for me it's a very entertaining category, as often I have no clue what they're going to do next, a thing that unfortunate slightly begins to lack with the more normal routes (not that it takes much away from their entertainment at all really) :)

Does hyperspeed wallkick work in the rumble pak version? (I know BLJ doesn't)

I didn't know that. I guess none of the speed tricks work with the rumble pack version.
So yea, how's it going? Currently TASing: Nothing

With the no-A-button TAS, is the problem with getting into later levels that you can't get into the Bowser levels, or that you can't complete them? It might be worth doing a no-A-button TAS starting with the save file produced from the 0 star TAS, in order to have access to every level. (Assuming you can even get upstairs, and through every level entrance, without jumping; I guess you can but am not certain.)

The problem is that you can't enter the pipe in BitDW to beat Bowser. Yes, a TAS collecting the most stars without the A button (starting from a file with all doors opened) would be great.

Right, agreed; I can't think of any way, short of discovering a new glitch, that you could get on top of the pipe. (Normally I'd be thinking about luring an enemy up there, but I don't think that stage has any flying enemies, and it's clearly impossible to get anything else up the steps.) I assume there's no way to clip into the loading zone from the side or below or something silly like that? (There almost certainly isn't, especially without jumping.) I suppose the other possibility would be a "minimum-jump" TAS, but that feels a bit ugly.

I know some people expressed some interest in a minimal A press run in the past. From the research I did a bit back looking at an any% run with minimal presses (this is going off memory) you can get 15 stars 'A' less, finish Bowser 1 in 2 presses (1 for the pipe and 1 earlier on around that yellow bridge that moves). Use mips to get into ddd, complete that star in 0-1 presses (the swimming would be terrible there). Then bowser 2 takes 1 press to get off the pole near the start of the level. From there, what I considered was would it take more presses to get 70 stars and not blj or to do a BLJ near the 50 star door and turn that into forward speed to get past the 70 door like in the current run. I never got around to testing this, but I think it was a lot less with a BLJ. Then bowser 3 takes like 7-10 presses or something. I also like the idea of seeing how far you could get if all the doors were unlocked though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8InbNWEdGPo I'm slightly surprised no one shared this. Other than this possibly being the only star you can do this with. It got me thinking though. We've seen a chunk of what an A-less run would look like. But what about a Z-less run? Or (Bowser exempt) a B and Z-less run? I'm quite sure the former is possible, but what about the latter? My first concern is what the first star would be?

Answering your first question, it's possible to do a Z-less run, even a B and Z less run might be possible...is it? Also, please explain why the hell you had 1991 stars in that video (jk)

Try to throw bowser without using the B button.

If you read my post, I said "Bowser Exempt". So... uh.. yeah. Throwing Bowser with B is fine. Similar to the suggestion of the "minimal A" run, use it in the bowser section because you have to. So, Bowser exempt, is a B and Z-less run possible? Like I was saying before, what would be the first star you get?[/i]

That's not a well defined goal. That's like having a "no A button until the last stage run" as a goal. =P

I think you're confusing "well-defined" and "good." It's pretty clearly defined IMO, but it would also be pretty boring for a full game thing. Some single stars might be cool, but overall, there's no chance a movie like "no 'B' button SM64" would be accepted here.

I would totally support the no A run even if it didn’t finish the game, though…

Well, there is a published run of Zelda 1 with "no sword until the final boss run" as a goal...

Hey guys, I replugged my n64 today and I used to do 70 stars speedrun of SM64 back in the days. New tricks have been found since and I have no clue how to do it. So how do you keep your speed while doing a slide (Z+B) or a jumpkick? And how do you jump super high with a double jump? I've seen a video where someone jump in the island in the sky in bob-omb battlefield with a double jump. I guess there is a trick compilation page somewhere but I can't find an updated one.
