Holy crap! I can't believe you didn't blast away the wall. Just so I'm clear on this, using the owl to get into the cage was only faster because you didn't have to open the cannon?
I guess so. I didn't try the cage star without opening the cannon on that same star.

The owl is as fast as the cannon is. I recommend that you always check this list (and compare to your times-I am sure that there are a few times, that you won't be able to beat...even in a TAS): Fastest star times Some of the "18 sec" are with the owl, some with the cannon. So it doesn't make any huge difference. and since you don't have the cannon open, with the owl it is much faster anyway. It would be interesting to time your stars, when you are done with the run. Wouldn't it be better, if this 120 stars-run had its own topic?

I'm guessing what he means is that some of the stars won't be improvable enough to take the time down yet another second from the current best time. Which doesn't seem unreasonable. If he doesn't think FODA will be able to match the times with some stars, then that's unreasonable of course.

I assume Foda times in frames... not in seconds.

Oh yes of course. Doesn't make Filim0nas any less correct though. There probably are a few stars that won't be beaten according to their timing.

Wow! Both cannon stars in Whomp's Fortres were awsome. Just the fodaquality i was expecting. Now (again!) I can't wait to see the run as full.
Which run should I encode next? :)

Why are there such huge differences in the times in the "Footrace with Koopa the Quick" star? Don't you have to wait for Koopa to get up the mountain before you get the star, thus making it almost trivial to get the lowest theoretically possible time? That's what I thought, at least... apparently not.

I haven't stopped to count my star times yet, so that page really is not usefull to me but it sure will be interesting to compare after the run is done. Also can you name the star you think will be the most impossible to beat (should be a really short time star i suppose) and i'll see what i can do about it :) edit: At the cage star, using that page's timing, my star is 1075 frames long or 17,91 seconds. I plan on remaking it anyway since i didn't take an optimal straight path when flying.

On the first footrace, Koopa will adjust it's speed according to yours. What this means is that the faster you reach the top, the faster Koopa will reach the top too. If you wander around near the begginning of the race, Koopa will be slow as hell, to give you some time to "catch up". That first race is designed to be easy. Koopa tries to help you win by slowing down if you're slow. I guess you get the picture :)

I'll make it more interesting for you (and motivate you play more), by challenging you to beat (=not match) these times: Hard: (=almost impossible to beat) Shoot to the Island in the Sky 0:21 Mario Wings to the Sky 0:37 Red coins on the floating isle 0:33 (it doesn't count, since you do the 100 coins with this one) Slip Slidin' Away 0:27 Snowman's Lost his head 0:37 Wall Kicks Will Work 0:13 Secret of the Haunted Books 0:12 Swimming Beast in the Cavern 0:34 A-maze-ing Emergency Exit 0:11 Watch for falling Rocks 0:16 Boil the Big Bully 0:21 Bully the Bullies 0:27 8-coin Puzzle with 15 pieces 0:15 Red-Hot Log Rolling 0:13 In the Talons of the Big Bird 0:17 Shining atop the Pyramid 0:07 Stand Tall on the Four Pillars 0:57 Pyramid Puzzle 0:48 Snowman's Big Head 0:09 Chill With the Bully 0:12 In the Deep Freeze 0:05 Whirl from the Freezing Pond 0:15 Top O' the Town 0:19 Shocking Arrow Lifts! 0:14 Scale the Mountain 0:26 Mysterious Mountainside 0:12 Cruiser crossing the Rainbow 0:27 Medium: 1)Can be beaten maybe by max. 1-2 sec or maybe not! Big Bob-omb on the Summit 0:51 Footrace with Koopa the Quick 1:22 Li'l Penguin Lost 0:22 Big Penguin Race 0:56 Blast to the Stone Pillar 0:18 (by me - not registered, with the cannon open) Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round 0:36 Big Boo's Balcony 0:38 Metal-Head Mario can move! 0:45 Navigating the Toxic maze 0:41 Hot-Foot-It into the Volcano 0:33 Inside the Ancient Pyramid 0:33 Free Flying for 8 red coins 0:59 Shell Shreddin' for Red Coins 0:38 Into the Igloo 0:23 Secrets in the Shallows & Sky 0:38 (by me - not registered) Express Elevator--Hurry Up! 0:30 The Big House in the Sky 2:05 Coins amassed in a maze 0:29 Tricky Triangles! 0:19 Somewhere over the Rainbow 0:43 2)Can be beaten by more sec, but have a less obvious route: Cool, Cool Mountain 100 coins 1:02 Big Boo's Haunt 100 coins 1:49 Elevate for 8 red coins 1:24 Hazy Maze Cave 100 coins 2:29 Lethal Lava Land 100 coins 1:25 Snowman's Land 100 coins 2:17 These are the stars of the stages that I've played the most. We can keep this post to compare it, when you are done with the run. It would be an interesting comparison!

I'm comparing to the best TAS time known (my time). Those are the stars i went for so far on my optimized run. FILIM0NAS: yea.. impressive times there i wonder how many i'll be able to beat. Why didn't you include the secret aquarium star on the hard list? My star seems to have been slower than the best known time. Anyway. Nice chalenge, me likes it :)

I did the best i could on that stage, remade it a lot of times already, i don't see the point of going back for it. This is a movie that is close to 2 hours long, it has to be completed some day i hope not too far away. The strategy on that stage wouldn't change, so the change wouldn't be noticeable by anyone anyway so i don't see a good cost/benefit factor on this one.

dont forget that their timing can easily be off because capturing runs can cause videos be shorter than the actual length of a run, also measuring when to start and stop exactly, their times could very well be misjudged.

You're welcome @ credits :) Last 6 ungotten CCless stars are: 1) Mario Wings to the Sky 2) Eye to Eye in Secret Room 3) Collect the Caps... 4) Into the Igloo 5) Somewhere Over the Rainbow 6) 8 Red Coins on the Clouds level I imagine 117 is definitely possible. Myles Edit: At least, those are the 6 stars that I don't have...not sure if anyone else has gotten these stars or not.
