Not true - you can check the boxes for "absolute" mouse movement in the input plugin, so that leaving the mouse in a position will constantly hold the analog stick in one direction for you. It's a pain to remember where you left your analog stick, though.

Okay, I've redone my test run up to the first star (free the chomp) skipping the Lakitu this time (I had no idea about this trick).
You didn't do the chain chomp skip! (Supposedly you can use a bob-omb to push yourself through the bars to the star, although I haven't gotten it to work myself).

Here's my very short testrun of Mario 64. It should end in Bom-Omb mountain to the health hearth (+ some fooling around). I used Super Mario 64 (U) [!].v64 rom and following plugins in it (in case they matter): Video: Direct64 v0.5.03.25 Input: N-Rage`s Direct-Input8 1.60 Sound: Azimer's HLE Audio v0.56 WIP 1 RSP: Hacktarux/Azimer hle rsp plugin I made this testrun because I wanted to see (and show you) how good you could make the jumps, turns etc. Of course this isn't even nearly as perfect as it can be made. And yes, I know you can get up the white slope and use the teleporters to cut some time. The reason why it's so damn short is because I had some problems with the emulator (as you should expect from very first version), but I must admit that nitsuja has done a very good job with the emulator and I haven't even tested the new version yet. Another reason for the shortness is that I'm currently working on MegamanZero1 (GBA) and I don't want/intend to waste too much time on testing this, unless nitsuja really wants me to help him finding some bugs or things that should be improved. (so nitsuja, just contact me if you want me to try more of this fabulous emulator of yours.) After I'm done with the MMZ run, I might try more some goofing around with N64 TASing but that will take a lot of time.

Okey, now that I've seen spezzafer's testrun, I see that my run is a very crappy enve for testrun :) It was so good that if you haven't seen my run yet, dont bother. Just watch spezzafer's run. I really hope spezzafer will make a whole run some day (hopefully as soon as possible ;) ). Please, do it for us! ;P

At the least it was good for testing synchronization - my Video, Input, Sound, and RSP plugins were all different from yours and it still played back fine. Has anybody gotten this trick with the chain chomp to work?:
An alternative to pounding the pole is to grab the little bomb guy walking around and use his explosion to push you through the gate itself. ... 1) it's not that hard, 2) it saves about 10 seconds of cinema-watching
It seems like the bob-omb is always too far away from the gate for this to work when I try it...

I think I saw a video of that once. I'm pretty sure it's possible to guide Bob-Ombs away from their starting locations a bit by standing behind them, and I think you can move faster while carrying it by jumping. Or maybe you want to guide it to you when it's lit and moving fast...

I believe it could be possible since you are able to go through the door in the basement with the yellow bunny (I've done that with the real console). But it would be extremely difficult since the bob-omb would be moving. Athough with the TAScapability, I believe it's possible. This would look really nice in complete run so I hope everyone who is interested in/thinking of making TAS of Mario 64 keeps this in mind.

That vid was awesome! This game obviously has more cool glitches than I could imagine!

The Bomb chain chomp glitch is used in one of the sda runs, either the 70 stars, 120 stars or the 16, but I can't remember which. This should be fun!
Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. What Truth? There is nospoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that changes, it is only yourself

That particular movie complained that it needed a rumble pack (even if I hooked one up in the controller config), though it seems to play okay anyways.

Actually I'm just doing a 16-star run using the same order as the console video at SDA (although there are several things that could probably be skipped/improved if tool-assisted). Check the file for an update. I've redone the run from the beginning up to the entrance of the slide room (where you jump into the princess portrait). Since it's closer than the Thwomp Fortress door I figured I might as well do it first. Took a while to figure out how to do the bob-omb trick but I realized I needed to use a mouse for input and change the sensitivity to almost 0 so Mario won't move away from the gate when turning around. There needs be a list of tricks made so I can use them in the run. Since I don't know of very many I'm kind of just running along as I make it. btw the alpha2 version is much better...however the read-only option when playing back a movie doesn't let me jump to a position in the movie via savestate and ends up recording over it instead

The read-only option is something that Windows adds automatically and assumes the application checks it, which currently it doesn't do yet. (In case you're wondering why this seems to happen so often that read-only doesn't work, it's because the programmers didn't add a read-only option.) Before anyone complains about it: the zillions of warning dialogs you get when playing a movie are temporary things. They will at least be combined into one big warning box, if not moved into a fancier playback dialog. About the movie so far: Neat, the trick worked. I have to wonder, though, if there isn't a better way of getting up there than going along the bridge. Maybe it would be faster to go in more of a straight line toward it and do a turnaround or triple jump + wall kick to get up there. Also, try making a long-jump land on top of a goomba - it's fun and I think fast as you keep moving at long jump speed during the bounce.

Spezzafer, have you seen Marius' 18:59 vid? I think it's the fastest vid online so far. You can get it here: http://www.world-of-holy-moly.de/Super%20Mario%2064.htm

You will create history if you manage to be the first one to make a TAS for a N64 game ^_^

They are both far lower now. Holy Moly recorded a 18:18 and LeCoureur a 18:09. You should contact them. And if none of them is available Curtis Bright.

Whil we wait Spezzafer to be finished with his run, I'd looove to see LeCoureur do a TAS for this game! Obviously, he has great knowledge about this game.

Is that for the 16-star run? Sounds incredible! The run at SDA is on ~26 minutes or something like that?

Btw, I'm not in the mood to upload them all now, but here are a few more vids by Myles http://rapidshare.de/files/6533999/Myles___Shoot_Into_The_Wild_Blue_-_11_Seconds.wmv.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6534067/Myles___Blast_Away_The_Wall_-_21_Seconds.wmv.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6534124/Myles___Wall_Kicks_Will_Work_-_13_Seconds.wmv.html
