Whoa, I sure as hell didn't have it in re-record mode. How do I do that/get the rerecord version?

Sorry, but those game faqs arent saying what i want. I remember there being another secret slide on the Tiny-Huge island. How do you get to it? I know it is where the cannon balls come out of but i dont know how to get into the slide. Does it have to do with starting on star 6 or something? Right now ive got 115 stars so i dont think it matters about stars. And just give a short answer about it please, It'll save you time if you dont be sarcastic............ it might of been on the tall tall mountain level where you come out by the star. I just did a "secret" way to get to it. Thanks.

I've never heard of any slide in Tiny-Huge Island. There are slides in Cool Cool Mountain, Tall Tall Mountain, and the Princess's Secret Slide, and that's it as far as I know.

For awhile now, ive been watching the 120 star run over a couple of days. I just skipped to the part of the tall tall mountain and found it. I always remembered or thought it was on tiny-huge island. Im not sure why. Thanks spacecow.

Check GameFAQs for "Mystery of the Mountainside" (the 4th star of Tall Tall Mountain); they explain it better than I could.

I already got that star, but not by using the slide. Thanks spacecow. And just because I haven't seen the slide for so long, i took a little "joy ride" down it. Thanks.

Very nice run (as always). I noticed that the 2 Secret Slide runs had times of 12.3 and 12.6 respectively. Does going diagonally make that much of a difference?! Isn't the human record 12.4 (I'm assuming they go diagonally also). I loved the way you optimized the 100 coin star on Bob-omb battlefield. Great job.

About the princess slide record while turning during the course, I remember asking in the thread and nobody answered, i searched on the internet, asked on the gamefaqs board, and nothing, so i left it the way i got. I think it's not the fastest method because you do a 180° turn AFTER the timer started counting, whereas with the 12'3" strategy, you do only a 90° turn after the timer starts counting.

is it going to stay this way?

If someone show me some proof that it can be done faster i might try hex editing, because it shows a number (12'6") that visually easily confirms "it could have been done faster". But many things can be done faster in this run, they just wouldn't be as obvious. And if it can't be hex-edited, it's gonna stay like that.

Right now i'm trying to get the "eye-to-eye in the secret room" star without the vanish cap. If i can't do it, i'll go to the basement, get the vanish cap, and then enter either hazy maze cave or shifting sand land, depending on MIPS' movement. Probably SSS.
The Ghost House is my favorite level. I can't wait to see you kick that level's butt. Good luck. You're an inspiration to us all.

Then i got bad and good news for you: - bad news is that i couldn't do the trick... - good news is that i figured re-entering and choosing "exit" at the vanish cap course, then going to big boo's haunt is faster than going back through the door and to the basement levels. Doing it like this, i can re-enter the 2nd bowser level after i beat it and exit right in front of the 2nd key door in the main lobby.

I agree it's faster, but the difference of 0.3 seconds can't be explained away by a 90º turn. It likely has to do with being able to get more speed by turning at the top than half way down the tunnel.

Don't forget that the 12"6 strat goes off the optimal path in order to do the 180... I'd say that and the extra 90 degree turn accounts for the "3.

No matter which method you choose, it requires crossing the slide to make the turn. And even a perfect long jump across at the top (as seen in the 12'3) takes around as much time as sliding across at high speed (as seen in 12'6).

I thought of this route for the basement levels: 1 - beat 1st bowser (33 stars) 2 - get vanish cap star, then re-enter, choose exit (34 stars), back to the lobby 3 - bigboo's haunt (41 stars) 4 - dire dire docks + 2nd bowser (49 stars) 5 - SSL + LLL + HMC + metal cap star + 2 MIPS + toad star (74 stars) 6 - re-enter any of those, choose exit and back to the lobby 7 - enter the 2nd key door I am right now working on 35th + 36th stars (100 coin route on big boo's haunt). I'm following all of the stars names on this level.

I haven't gone looking for different versions of the Slide for at least 6 months, all I know is the version I had downloaded was the cross at the top one. I was going by memory, and thus my post there on GFAQs.

Arent any of the basement stars on the way to getting the vanish cap? HMC is right? I do remember that getting sucked out the hole in DDD gets you near the Vanish cap, and getting pulled out of the metal cap stage takes you to the waterfall outside. (The other outside exit level is falling in wing mario over the rainbow which puts you near the outside cannon I think). I dont see how to use these though..

nah, i think it's faster to go from the lobby to the vanish cap slope (near the 2nd bowser door) than going back there from either HMC, SSL or LLL.... so when i'm done with these 3 levels i'll choose exit and that will bring me up to the lobby which saves the most time in this route.

Since you need to pound the two posts to reach the vanish cap stage in the first place, there's no reason to go to it from exiting a different stage.

Doh I forgot about going backwards up that slope. It's not even that hard to do :) OK Im really looking forward to this now... The only other overworld bit is that when you get to DDD do as many stars before the bowser sub one as you can since the entry-water will receed and you will have further to travel to reenter.
