Thanks for all comments, much pleased to hear it. Also thanks to asteron for the tip on the blue coins, i've been thinking and yea, that must be considerably faster.

Yeah i tried that before, but doesent seem to affect anything. The numbers keep on running in the lower-left corner though. But it doesent show any input being given anymore (+ i can control it myself :/)
If you load a savestate on a movie that is being played without read-only at least ONCE that's enough to erase everything from after the savestate, so it's useless to try playing the movie again. you have to download it again. And you must mark read-only inside mupen64, at the movie play screen, not in windows file properties. -do this: -download the file again -open mupen -open the rom (wait it to boot up) -go to movie play and select the file -mark the topion "read-only" that is in mupen64 (not the file properties) -load the savestate that i provided or watch the whole movie

I'm just curious, I've never experimented with am emulator, but I've found the Z stomp, when done close enough to the star skips the animation and sends you straight to the ground faster in pretty much all situations. Some stars you do that or other techniques, but a couple times you just let the fall animation happen. Was that actually timed to be faster, or was the fact that I was watching the movie at 2x speed making me misestimate time used?

Well that seemed to do the trick, I must've messed up the savestate before turning read only on :/

I have to make a few comments: 1)The bowser fight seems much better now.How did you manipulate his move with the hand? By entering the pipe later? 2)I liked how you pressed the vanish cap switch without touching the ground afterwards (and avoiding the switch message). I am looking forward seeing the metal cap switch (if you are going to press it after all) 3)Have you checked if it is faster to jump after you have killed the boo to enter the BBH? I think Mario doesn't have to do the whole animation to get into the cage 4)Are you positive that 3x diving isn't slower than 2x long jumping? I saw this also in the BOB. 5)For some reason I didn't like the 100 coin route. My record as you can see in www.sm64.com is 1:49 for this star. Your time was about 1:38. Not good for a TAS. Here is my route. I don't know if optimizing this route will be faster: http://rapidshare.de/files/17771895/5.7.Filimonas_100_coins_1.49__2.04_.zip.html (9 MB) Good luck!

I am looking forward seeing the metal cap switch (if you are going to press it after all) Yea i'm gonna hit the metal cap just for the sake of it :) 3)Have you checked if it is faster to jump after you have killed the boo to enter the BBH? I think Mario doesn't have to do the whole animation to get into the cage I haven't checked that, never heard of it, but sure will try. (in this case i'd have to remake the ghost hunt) 4)Are you positive that 3x diving isn't slower than 2x long jumping? I saw this also in the BOB. I'm not positive. But 3x diving doesn't have the same length as 2x LJ. This doesn't make an excuse at BoB but it does at big boo's haunt 5)For some reason I didn't like the 100 coin route. One thing i forgot is about the ghost there, so instead of skipping 2 red coins below, i'll skip the whole coffin room. This should make a much much faster time. Good luck! thanks

earlier in the movie, i do get the star without doing the Z stomp. this was a mistake. (JRB and Whomp's fortress and the first star of CCM). But later on, sometimes i don't do that because: - mario needs to be underneath the star in order for that to work. - sometimes the star is so close to the ground that it's faster to dive to it.

I'd just suggest checking the distance you can stomp from, because I recall that you can hit it with the stomp animation hardly starting. After watching the SDA version, I went and tested and found that it could be faster than what they did, but it took precision, or a lot of trys on a console. Though this at most would affect the movie by 1 or 2 seconds, still counts and the other work is amazingly impressive.

Yes, i know, when mario starts the stomp animation, mario's hitbox actually starts rising. The closer mario is to the star when he starts the stomp, the sooner mario will touch the star.

This has been discussed before and I think the main reason was, that FODA didn't know about the perfect timing for pressing A. Since this is the first star in his run, he didn't want to remake the whole run. It looks flawless anyway ;) @ FODA: Stop posting WIPs! I don't want to see any more until the run is finished but I just can't resist if you offer one! ;)

Well Filimonas and Asteron are posting good advice, so i must keep posting wips, i wish i could think of everything on my own, but sadly i can't, so it's good that these fine people help out with possible improvements. Yea, my secret aquarium doesn't have perfect timing or angle... I'll try hex-editing later, but it may not work.

If you do any hex-editing, you should do it right away, so that there will definitely be less that can go wrong. I don't understand people who put off hex-editing for later.

Don't tell him not to post WIPs! This is a 120 star run. Do you have any idea how long we'd have to suffer if he didn't post any more WIPs???

Those are computer generated stats. All I do is type in the start/end frame numbers for each star. The script computes everything else for me. Star times are taken from http://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cbright/sm64/startimescomp.html The hex editing for Secret Aquarium should be done ASAP.

I'm not entirely sure the world record applies to the 100 coins collected, from the videos it was very apparent that FODA had 2 goals every time he was getting the 100 coins, to get 2 stars very quickly in that order. That potentially adds time, as there are quite conceivably faster coin routes, but are there ones that also put you in position for the second star?

As I said, these are computer-generated stats. I will leave out the 100-coin stars next time. But the Secret Aquarium, Secret Slide, Chip Off Whomp's Block, and Snowman's Big Head are clearly not optimized.

secret slide i took the second star when i went for total time, not the close one. chip off whomp's block and snowman's big head: there is something wrong with the sm64.com time.

*watches wip run* ...damnit, now I'm gonna have nightmares. Don't get me wrong, your TAS is astounding. But the way you just rip through the game mercilessly and ignoring the cries of "stawp" and "NO PLZ D:" coming from the rom? That's gonna haunt me for months to come. Btw, my friend has this to say about the second Bob-omb Battlefield star that you collected: <Digito> I had been right in the middle of eating a skittle, <Digito> And I just left it there in my mouth. <Digito> I'm pretty sure I stopped breathing too. <Digito> Afraid that if I breathed, <Digito> Mario would feel it through the TAS, <Digito> And ninjashank me from Bomb Omb Battlefield. <Digito> With his ninjadash. <Digito> His reverse ninjadash. <Digito> He'd just turn around, <Digito> Plow into my head at omgwtfhax MPH, <Digito> And keep on going for the star. <Digito> Then hunt down any vaugely star shaped object in my house and take it. <Digito> And the police wouldn't even know where to start. <Digito> 'cause he's a goddamned ninja Good work. Looking forward to the full run.

AVI of the WIP uploaded to rapidshare. Quality is about the same as what I used to publish spezzafrr's *16 run. Size is roughly 85 MB, ~36 minutes long. Download Link

Thanks, DeHackEd. The run looks really impressive so far, FODA. I'm sure you've heard that a lot, but more encouragement can't hurt. Keep it up.

I have 2 vids for you: http://rapidshare.de/files/17923518/2.1.Filimonas_Chip_off_Whomp_s_Block_0.32.zip.html I have no idea, how Myles does a 0:31. http://rapidshare.de/files/17923398/4.5.Filimonas_Snowman_s_Lost_his_Head_0.37.zip.html This is 0:37. Maybe you walk to the snowman later? I don't know if the long jump to the head at the beginning is faster that your dive & slide.
