Yes, Metal Cap was extremely well done. It's amusing to see Metal Mario long jump so well, and also to continue collecting coins after hitting the switch.

In watch for falling rocks, doing the sliding over the central pit wasn't really faster because after the jump over the pit, i wasn't heading straight to the star (i had to turn around), which excluded direct longjumping/diving moves. Also, the rocks' randomness was getting in the way. If you watch closely at the first zipping, you'll see that i don't want to go farther, but the complete oposite? if i go farther i'll end up closer to the metal cap door, which is why i totally changed the direction of mario's velocity during mid-air. I could have landed on the ground instead of water, but mario would get hurt that way and that was much slower, so i landed near the land and then jumped in.

Very nice! I just have one question... Why is the route in the Maze so long? You seem to go through almost every part of the maze before getting to the hole in the wall...

wort excuse ever! (I must admit that it looks like the maze route for the "navigate the toxic maze" star is not the best)

Oh I accept this though! the red coin stunts were great. and the 100coin route was impressive.

well, if you take a map of the maze you'll see it can't be helped!

The star is practically on the opposite side of the maze so either route takes a while.

OK here are my comments: 1)I take the other route for the maze star for the record (41 sec) in the star times competition. If i timed correctly your way is about 38 sec long. The way you get down to the maze from the hole is better in the 100 coins star (kick in the air). Not sure how much my record would be TAS'ed. Did you try it? 2)The Amaze-ing exit seems to be slower than 11 sec. I am sure that double jump up to the platform and long jump to the star is faster (like the 70 stars run from LeCoureur). 3)Rolling rocks doesn't seem oprimal. It may just be me. Generally long jump and backflip is faster than triple jump. Instead of diving you can long jump and then backflip up to the star. 4)I was surprised that you took the same route (minor differences) for the red coins. It seems we think the same way! ;) It need some optimizations though: Avoid the poll. Try to land directly on the platform after the wall kick. Same as above: long jump after the 5th coin and backflip to the platform with the 6th coin (not sure if you get high enough). You can long jump from the 6th coin right up to the platform with the eye! This will save 2-3 seconds! You can also manipulate luck and get the spider right under one of the boxes (maybe with the 7th coin), so that you don't hurt falling. This will save another 1-2 seconds. 5)The 100 coin route is good. You wait a sec or so in the platform with the eye. There must be a reason for that... Can't you manipulate luck for the blue coin, so that you don't have to wait for it to fall down? On the way up with the platform can't you wall kick twice to get up faster (one off the wall and one off the celling)? Same for the maze star. And finally down in the cave you dive in the water. Can't you use the slope where you dive (make your last jump a little further) to make Mario gain speed and get closer to the platform?

It may just be me. Generally long jump and backflip is faster than triple jump. Instead of diving you can long jump and then backflip up to the star. I guess you may be right 4)I was surprised that you took the same route (minor differences) for the red coins. It seems we think the same way! ;) It need some optimizations though: Avoid the poll. Try to land directly on the platform after the wall kick. Wouldn't that hurt? This will save 2-3 seconds! oh wow You can also manipulate luck and get the spider right under one of the boxes (maybe with the 7th coin), so that you don't hurt falling. This will save another 1-2 seconds. how would it prevent from getting hurt? i'm butt-stomping, would get right through the spider and get hurt anyway. also, manipulating that would take waaaaaaay too much time.. 5)The 100 coin route is good. You wait a sec or so in the platform with the eye. There must be a reason for that... if i tried to walk, mario wouldn't turn around at once, he'd start running the wrong way Can't you manipulate luck for the blue coin, so that you don't have to wait for it to fall down? didn't i just? you mean make it fall faster? On the way up with the platform can't you wall kick twice to get up faster (one off the wall and one off the celling)? Same for the maze star. which wall? the same i used? and then the ceiling? i guess that would be too slow, the elevator doesn't go up that slow, its usefull to avoid that extra movement. And finally down in the cave you dive in the water. Can't you use the slope where you dive (make your last jump a little further) to make Mario gain speed and get closer to the platform? that slope isn't headed towards the island. the longer i stay on it, the more mario turns away from it, and would be far off if i jumped from it. so i tried to trade a good distance/direction advantage there.

The maze route can seriously be improved... HMC Map And I got one more question... Pleeeze don't flame me, I'm just a tad new with emulators and I know this isn't the right board to ask but it's just a simple question... When watching an .m64 movie, is there any way to skip chunks, rather than just lengthening the fps rate?

8 red coins was absolutely incredible. The wall jump during the platform ride was a fun time waster while waiting for the platform to get where you needed to be. Collecting the final red coins without using the arrow platform was awesome. Very well done.

this is the route i took: i don't know how going the other path could be faster. and to skip frames the only way is to load a savestate (while in read-only mode)

and you can't see that that's slower? not only it's a longer path, it isn't straight, which means i can't use longjumping, dive and roll, etc.

Just looking at it again, maybe you're right about the length... Sorry bout that. It's still be nice if someone timed it out to see the true difference between routes.

Just finished watching the 74-star run... The 100-coin route was great. BTW, it might be a tad premature, but I made some videos a while back that might help with WDW: http://youtube.com/watch?v=OnYIxqpV8O0 http://youtube.com/watch?v=DeFcpGg22XQ

I have decided to upload all the save states I have. They are pretty much each level and secret star so far: Super Mario 64 Save States They are compressed with .7z which is 7-zip's format, if you didn't know.

Ok I've uploaded some of my videos. Here you go: A-maze-ing Emergency Exit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Cezjt7zxfM Navigating the Toxic maze http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLGcb5irn2Q Red coins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RruG3OxHqY Watch how the spider helped me (pure luck) after the last red coin. When you break the box Mario just fall ( without butt-stomping). I hope this helps.

I have to wonder if that moving platform really has to be waited on for so long. Is there no way to reach the red coin over there by using wall kicks on the poles hanging from the ceiling?

That was undoubtedly the coolest 100 coin star route ever.

Is it WDW next, I know you probally already know but don't forget to re-enter and exit the hmc. I don't know if WDW will be an easy or hard world. Apart from the coin route I don't think too many stars will cause problems, although you have to be certain that you jump in at the right height which might be a pain. Personally I do find swimming levels boring to watch. BTW is it possible to avoid WDW from the last stair during the BLJ sequence?
