You just walk to the edge of the platform and Mario lets chuckya go. You then dive under him so that he catches you in the air and land safely to the platform underneath.

I would like to echo Maza's comments on this latest segment. Very well done and keep it up!

FODA, check this site for a video of the Chuckya glitch, and a detailed discription of how to perform it. Hope that helps.

Good that you got it... Though it would be completely irrelevant to the speedrun (and probably cost a lot of time), it'd be cool to get invisible for at least some of the run...

If it is faster, I'd love to see the chuckya glitch in this run!

Oh, that reminds me... I know this is self-promoting, and it may be deleted, but if people here still play Mario 64, have the capacity to record emulator/console videos, and are looking for something to do with SM64 after all these years, come to GameFAQs to compete in my Video Quiz... It's super-wonderful.

I was reading more about this, and you can apparently have the chuckya turn into a star. Could this speed up one of the WDE stars? Doubtful, but it might be something to consider.

If I'm not mistaken, FODA is working on that right now.

Just watched this run, and it's looking very nice so far. I've been waiting a while to see a PROPER SM64 TAS, although the existing one is good, this shows even the 16-star run can be vastly improved by using the moves and tricks in FODA's 120 run. I don't have a knowledge of the game THIS great however.... In Jolly Rodger Bay could you have gotten into the sunken ship faster after coaxing the eel out? In the first Bowser battle could you have grabbed the key quicker? (like you did in the second.) Just thoughts.....as ignorant as they may sound

I doubt he could have gotten the eel out faster because you have to swim away from the eel a certain distance before it will come out...then you turn around and go back.

Here's an AVI DeHacked encoded to show FODA's progress. It resumes from the 64 stars AVI previously posted. :) https://webfiles.berkeley.edu/DK64_MASTER/shared/FODA81.avi Download away!

Rest assured, FODA got the key as soon as it was gettable. In the first fight, Mario walks really close to the camera and then slides into the key. In the second fight, it looks faster because Mario jumps into Bowser's mouth and is already standing inside the key when it lands. It bounces a bit before you can actually grab it.

I have no complaints with this run at all so far. I'm really looking forward to ther finished article. Just a thought...FODA found ways to get the Bob-omb field stars and the Whomp's fortress' stars much quicker than Spezzafer did in his 16-star run. Are we gonna see a remake?

FODA has indicated that he will likely create a new 16 star run when he's done the 120 star run.

Excellent. Worth looking forward to along with the 120-star run.

In HMC, why did you allow yourself to be stunned sometimes when you fell rather than dive to save yourself. For example, sometimes when you break the red coin blocks you dive before you hit the ground and avoid the stun delay, but other times you do not.... (see 6:09 in that avi for a time when you did not get stunned but 2:35 and 2:52 for times you did). Also, at 7:01... atleast you could have grabbed the edge or something, couldn't you? 7:19-7:26 seems unoptimized.

You can't recover after a ground pound. Plus that avi is not the current wip, he redid some parts i believe.

About falling from the red coin boxes: i didn't know mario wasn't ponding anymore after he goes through the box. it's something i've only noticed when i was remaking the 100 coin route. Apparently, filimonas didn't know either, because he suggested using the spider to avoid damage. i don't have the avi, what is in 7:01 and 7:19 ?

Well, that is obviously not true if you watch the avi at 6:09, you will see him recovering from a groundpound (this one appears to be without the aid of the enemy) btw, I loved how that 75th star was opened :) EDIT: at 11:05, that was a neat way to get to that pathway but you can just triple jump straight up to it.

I still can't figure out how he recovered from the ground-pound when there was no Spider under him... You can't make any new moves while "ground-pound-falling", and the height was too high up to not lose any health (I think).

so, nobody noticed. after mario goes through the box he isn't pounding anymore, he's free falling. i just did a dive. weatherton: read please, i don't have the avi, so going by numbers doesn't mean anything to me, tell me which parts are those.
