Yea, that looked very nice, if it's indeed faster to do that than to do 2 stars in BoB.
You could always get them after Bowswer.

I'd suggest going to the PSS after B1, since it's only two long jumps away. And does anyone know how to put bookmarks into .m64 movies? I'm so sick of watching the intro ovre and over...

that's what savestates are for ? just use them with read only checked, as you would anyway since you're just watching.

If you're gonna get the stars in BoB after going to bowser then it'd be faster to get then first wouldn't it?

In anycase the trick is at least worth it to skip the door animation for Bowser1 and probably all of the lobby levels. I mean the JRB door skip saved like 2-3 seconds and didnt involve nearly as much speed. Its a shame it couldnt be used in this run... probably would have saved 10-15 seconds in all. Ohh well thems the breaks.

Sorta depends which route you take... Overall, I think it would be pretty much the same... If you do B1 first, you could come out of the door, make a small jump onto the platform with the BoB door, get the BoB stars, then either triple jump to the PSS door, or do the Lobby Glitch to get through that door. Come to think of it, that's probably the better idea... So far, it seems that a good new 16-star TAS would have Mario use the Lobby Glitch to get into B1, get the star and beat Bowser there, then get to BoB, get the star/s there, then use the lobby Glitch to get into PSS. That's my logic.

The only drawback to this is that I would need to re-enter the first bowser world and then enter the lobby. I've even thought about getting 9 stars in the lobby and getting the 10th in the wingcap. I thought about doing the lobby glitch to allow mario to do WF first, but then again the drawback to that is that we need to re-enter the painting and exit. Incase you're wondering what happended when Mario enter the first Bowser world, I let go of all the input at the last oporunity to prevent Mario going through the invisible wall and its certainly faster that butt slaming. Now I think of it its probally better to avoid BoB and get extra stars in LLL and HMC, because they more or less take the same time to get.

I don't see how it's a drawback... It seems way faster than going back through the Bowser door (if you were able to). TASing it, it would take, like, a quarter of a second. And once you end up back in the center of the lobby, you can jump right into the door that leads to the Lobby Glitch... I'd say a mix of Lobby Glitches and normal door opening-sequences would work.

How would you able to get through the Bowser door if you don't have 8 stars? You have to enter the Bowser level and exit. But why don't you make a new topic? We could discuss the 16 stars run there. This topic is full with the 120 stars run already.

I realized that you could get through without the 8 stars, so I said "if you were able". Prolly shouldn't have said anything... A new topic, eh? Who should create it? Moi?

For JRB it proved like 2 seconds faster to re-enter the painting than to try opening the door since the door opening animation is some 7 seconds long about.

Theoretically, that would mean that if the Lobby Glitch were used to get into every "painting door" in the lobby, there would never be going through any doors that require stars (in the lobby)... Right?

I don't think the lobby glitch is worth it, when it comes to entering WF, athough thats the place would be next on the to do list after Bowser, I'm also curious to find out if I'll skip the "You got a star you can now open another star door" text. I've spent nearly 2000 re-records on the first Bowser stage, I mananged to go faster than the previous version on get the first two red coins, but then I start to fall way behind and by the time I've got the third red coin the current 16 star is approaching the moving yellow platform.

2,000 rerecords? Wow, nice job... How exactly do you fall behind? And it seems like you're the one doing the 16-star TAS (correct me if I'm wrong), so should a new topic be created, as someone suggested before?

I'm gonna have to re-trace my steps for red coins. I'll start a new topic when/if I beat the first bowser.

The first pages of this thread were about the 16 stars run, so i don't see why creating another thread. AKA, don't forget to always choose "no" to the save question. It's 4 frames faster. I think the B1 early trick is useless if you're gonna take 8 stars in the lobby. But if you aren't, then it's useful... What's your planned route? still this one? 1. Bowser red coins [1 star] 1.1. Re-enter and exit boss area 2. Wompa's Fortress; 3. Get the usual 5 stars [6 stars] 4. Enter basement and go to SSL 5. Get usual 2 stars [8 stars] 6. Head for LLL 7. Get three stars [11 stars] 8. Head for HMC and talk to Toad [12 stars] 9. Get three stars in HMC [15 stars] 10. Continue as normal

Thats more or less the plan. The idea is to minimize visits to worlds and thus keep the travelling distance in the castle low.

Would it be possible to use the Lobby Glitch to BLJ right into the WF painting, like with no "backwards running around"? Because if so, it would be faster than the door sequence.

Yeah I even did that without tool-assisting ( due to total luck and because I tried it like 100 times ) Yes I think its faster to skip almost all star opening sequences because it takes like 7 seconds and it takes about 2 seconds to open up a door 2 seconds to get to the lobby glitch spot and 2 more seconds to BLJ so it probably does save at least 1-4 seconds. Edit: Oh without touching the ground... nevermind >_>.

You could cancel your momentum when you get there (with a punch or something) to jump into it normally. Also, I've been able to double-jump from that backwards running, keeping the momentum. It was much lower than a normal double jump, but high enough to clear a large stairstep in the room outside of TTC.

You can fly directily into the painting because there is nothing behind it, but it takes time to activate the glitch, and I definitley don't think it'll save time becuase of the neccesary re-entry to the painting. EDIT: This bowser level is annoying me. Spezzafer is 1 frame ahead of me on getting the third red coin, but he gain the frame early on. I've tried hex-editing but I can't get it to work because. I errasing his movie up till the start of the bowser battle so I locate which hex value to start with but it keeps giving me the full movie file so I can't locate, any advice here. I've also noticed the formula (Frame*4)+ m64 offset value, but I don't even know where to enter that. I probally don't even have that kind of search feature. I just TASed what I what I beleved to be the best tactics, but I now realise what me and Spezzafer do is almost symetrical.

What do you mean by PSS, is that the peach secret slide. These are very slow stars to get.

Strange... There's no way that Spezzafer...cheated by unnoticably increasing the framerate or anything like that, right? Just asking; got nothing against Spezzafer. I'm not familiar with the finer details of making TAS's, so I may be talking nonsence.

Wow, did I say that? My mistake, I must not have been thinking properly... Please disregard that.

Why are you comparing to spezzafer's Bowser 1 if i did it faster?

Its hard to compare becuase of the different camera angles. What bits did you do faster? I'm just refering to the first 3 red coins. P.s. How did you get that fixed camera cangle all I get is the Mario Cam.

Well, there's frame counter. So the camera angle doesn't do much. I don't remember how much faster the 3 first coins were now... You need to press start and change to "fixed camera" or something like that.
