mr_roberts_z asked me to start the thread for him, here it is. He is currently planning on doing this run instead of the 70 stars, since that one wasn't too clear of it's goals and restrictions. Rules: - touch no coins, ever - touch no cap switches - doesn't enter any cannon Goal: - take maximum amount of stars under those restrictions, as fast as possible, and then finish the game. Just like it isn't possible to define that any run in this site is really the fastest possible, i see no reason for the goal of getting maximum amount of stars should be taken as vague. It's just a goal to strive for. If that goal is beaten by someone else by taking more stars, then that's a better run. If someone takes the same amount of stars, but faster, that's also better. What's the point of this run? while discussing with mr_roberts_z, we've quickly realized that it shows cool strategies and tricks for some stars that aren't present on the 100% or any% runs. Here's hoping that it's more than "some", and becomes "many", but that doesn't depend solely on the author, it also depends on the circunstances.

Thanks for the thread... Yep, hopefully in the process, we may discover more stars, and new strats... As I said in the original thread, I'll start working on a test run, and it should be done soon.

how many stars is possible to do this cccless run? you have to take coins in 2 stars per stage, and you have to take coins in cap zones and bowser zones. If i'm not mistaken thats 36 stars that can't be taken. So 84 stars is the maximum number of stars I'm a cccless run (correct me if I'm wrong). And there is proberby some stars were you can't avoid coins. I talk about the 2 stars in world 3 (Slip slide away and big pinguin race). But it'll surely be entertaining if you can pull it off. good luck to you

Don't forget Wing Mario Over the Rainbow... Yeah, there are quite a few normal stars that are impossible; I put up a thread on the GameFAQs board asking for a list; they usually know these things. Hopefull we'll get a good list soon.

Thanks! EDIT: Curtis Bright has supplied this list: Wing Mario over the Rainbow Eye to Eye in the secret room Collect the Caps... Into the Igloo Mario Wings to the Sky Big Penguin Race Slip Slidin' Away Snowman's Lost his head All red coin stars (23 total) All 100-coin stars (15 total)

I have completed the game coinless, but I used a metal cap on both jet stream stars and a cannon on "Blast to the Stone Pillar".

I do not have access to it right now, but at my next chance I may test the following strat: Eye to Eye in the secret room-Grab the crate outside the mansion and MIPS Glitch (if possible???) inside. Hop up the staircase and MIPS glitch into the room leading to the third floor. Double jump and bounce off two books to reach the third floor. Finally, MIPS glitch into the secret room and grab the star. This fails if: 1)The crate does not exist (I have not played that part of the course in a while) 2)The crate cannot be used to glitch (I have never tried it with a crate before) 3)The entrance to the Secret Room cannot be glitched through (No one has ever tried that I know of) 4)Bouncing off the books fails to give enough height, or the books cannot be lured into the right position (unlikely with tools)

This is a good category, and has been around for a while. I believe the maximum is 77. Yes, the Pyramid Secrets one is possible.

This is a classic category nearly as old as Mario 64 itself. I certainly approve.

yeah, there was a video on youtube showing how you could hit the triggers without actually picking up the coins

It's not very hard, I've done it plenty of times.

I support this run provided you defeat Bowser at the end too. You were probably going to do that before I metioned it, but if you didn't, it would have the worst ending ever.

JSmith, you can't do that with that box because as soon as you grab it, mario jumps 3 times and break the box. Snowman's lost his head.... ???? how hard is that? not much i guess. i bet i can do it on console :P

I'm working on the test run... I'm at 47 stars, and I'm stuck on "Quick Race Through Downtown!"... I'm trying to use the Chuckya glitch, but the object just won't turn into a star... Any tips?

I'm pretty sure Snowman lost his head wasn't possible because you need to have done Big Penguin race and such before.

In the big penguin race is it possible to jump while sliding to avoid the line of coins near the end?

It's impossible to enter the house without touching the coins outside the chimney.

I thought there was a normal box out there somewhere. But apparently there isn't.

Since this is a Cap-less TAS, does this also mean you qwill be losing Mario's normal cap to the Buzzard in Shifting Sand Land as soon as possible? ;3

Heh thats taking things pretty literally :) Of the impossible ones listed I think these are the ones most likely to be collectable in a TAS. Wing Mario over the Rainbow - You would need to find a BLJ oppurtunity either on the ship or (more likely) on a flying carpet. FODA showed BLJ was possible on the carpets for that big house star, if you can get enough speed from there you could make it... Eye to Eye in the secret room Either BLJ through or find a way to get the boo to push you? Big Penguin Race Slip Slidin' Away Snowman's Lost his head - Well for these you would need to somehow be able to enter the chimney through its side... You would need a lot of speed.. Collect the Caps... - If you can get through a wall you should be able to swim outside of the walls and navigate to inside the cage from there. BTW: Everyone else sees mr_roberts_z's avatar as that AVATARITY.COM ad right? I was browsing this forum one day in IE and saw it was supposed to be a tiger or something. I never knew this since Firefox has always showed it to be that ad though.... you should get a different host :P

It looks like you've mixed up Wing Mario over the Rainbow with Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The latter was recently proved to be possible, so it's not on the list. Wing Mario over the Rainbow is the "secret" level where you only have clouds to stand on, and there's no way in hell that you'd be able to navigate across all the clouds without the Wing Cap or the cannons. Besides that, the whole purpose of that secret level is to collect red coins, so this appears to be the most blatantly impossible CCC-less star of all.

You know I didn't support the idea of a 70-star tas because the golas were very contrived and the means conflicted. This however, I fully support.

Nice! And pretty recent too... its nice to know that SM64 still has a bleeding edge.. The thing I am most looking forward to in a CCC TAS is the chuckya glitch in WDW. That should be amazing :)

mr_roberts_z has a video of him BLJing on a sign. Would it be possible to BLJ on a sign and go through the slide building of CCM without touching a coin? there are multiple signs in that area. Another option is to get BOTH penguins (I'm not sure if it's possible) and have them push you into some wall...
