Alright, instead of keeping it secret, I'm announcing that I'm working on Spelunker 2 TAS. Why? I figured I need to open topic so that there can be discussion about this game, maybe some different route or glitch I'm not aware of.
The game is made in japan only and didn't come in English version at all (except there's at least 2 different english translation patch floating around on internet). One of the main different over first Spelunker is that you can play as 1 of 3 characters, each play differently, Explorer, Cleric (or Wizard?) and Esper. The game is also fairly short - there's a video some guy beating game with almost shortest path in 30 minutes.
I'm going with Esper since he (or she) has ability to teleport back to where he (or she) had set teleport point. I will be pretty much following the video route, the only different so far is skipping Rosary item, skip all rations, skip 1st and 4th bomb. I believe TAS will be less than 20 minutes. Any secret, trick, glitch, better route that I may have overlooked? Please share.
Neat, I see some areas from that video that I can improve for my TAS. I'm wondering why he didn't get powered up thunder, that could finish 2nd boss and final boss faster.

Alright, so I played around, test some stuff...
I'm going to have to restart basically from beginning again, setting teleport point right at beginning instead of using teleport twice like what I just did on my first WIP video is about 40 frames faster.
I'm definitely going to do the route in that nico video.. but here's the changes I'm going to do:
Around 7:05 to 7:33 of that video, where he used gold key to get silver key, I'm skipping that part. By using ESP teleport trick (seem to only work from the right side). See video below:

Also along with that, I will still have gold key on hand, which saves me from having to go down to grab gold key then walk back up like what he did between 8:37 to 9:37. So I will be go straight to boss fight, then go down, get thunder power up then continue the route like nico video did. I'll probably be able to skip an extra silver key in stage 3 and use ESP trick at last silver door at 14:50.
I don't have much time to work on TAS for a few days, but I will over on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. So if anyone have something, or a new time-saving trick to share before I begin work on this TAS, please post.
An update. I just finished Stage 2, I'm already 1 minute faster over nico nico video tas and I believe I should be able get at least 20 seconds faster in Stage 3. Expect movie submission later today or tomorrow.
