About the Game

Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse is a 1994 platformer video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Sony Imagesoft for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Mega CD, and Super NES. In the game, the player controls Mickey Mouse, who must navigate through various side-scrolling levels, each designed and based from classical Mickey Mouse cartoons from 1928 to 1990.

Level by Level

5-1

Main improvement in this level - Micky skipped "puzzle" with growing flower and water, instead use butterfly to climb up on mushroom (554 frames saved).
Well, since i redoing this level, as addition to main improvement i did also a few minor:
Avoided peas by changing Mickey's hitbox during push apple animation in right moment (8 frames saved).
Also get a star, a simple item which give Mickey 1 extra HP. Mickey will use it at getting damage at butterfly later.
More precise endpoint position of apple (11 frames saved).
Jumps while pushing are used to manipulate butterflies.
At crossing water, Mickey throw marbles to freeze dragonfly and use it as a more effective bridge between the leaves-boats (36 frames saved).

5-3

Main improvement in this level - Micky skipped the first beanstalk, use butterfly as shortcut (140 frames saved).
Minor improvement - new method of climbing up to table with using beetle and butterfly (9 frames saved).

Possible improvements

More precise optimisation for other levels. May be one day i will redo full movie, but for now enjoy the current one.

For those interested in jumping right to the new stuff, the modified stage starts at around 9:53 in the temp encode. Nice strategy change! It looks really seamless, where you hardly go out of your way at all. Good thinking with the dragonflies too. I'm voting Yes. It's a shame more of the run isn't updated, but this is a big enough change worthy of this small update. Now, if you could figure out any way to have less waiting time in the final bossfight with Pete, my Yes vote would get three times bigger :-)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Just for my own knowledge, are there any huge differences in which version you run?

As in system? The SNES version has load times, so the Genesis version is preferred.

Going with highest difficulty is good, from what I recalled playing the PS1 version it had less levels on easier difficulty but as a result also wouldn't feel complete to do it despite being quicker.
Enjoys speedruns but hasn't actually tried making any yet.

I redid yet one level, additional 149 frames saved. Now Micky should cancel this submission... ...and re-submit it. Or somehow is possible to replace movie-file? Edit: Oh, Hi There! Here link for new movie-file: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1744016972/emu%26Archanfel-Mickey_Mania.gmv
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

You can get the movie file replaced. In the meantime, you could add a new link to it in this forum or in your submission.
