Oh nice! Are you still working on it? If not I would like to see any work you have, I was thinking of working on that one fairly soon.

I resumed to my old WIP recently and have worked on it gradually since then. I'm in stage 6 now, still a long way to go. One thing to note is that emulation between Snes9x and Bizhawk is a lot different, which often makes it hard to recognize if the movie is faster or not.

I'm picking up Metal Storm. Improved 8 frames on password input. Hopefully more to come lol.

Awesome! I admit I was a bit intimidated to try that one, I hope you keep finding improvements as easy as that one.

Heplooner and I are working on it together, we're 29 frames ahead after 2-1. I'll try to get a WIP posted and maybe someone else can see some errors we missed. It's mostly lag reduction, but there are a few easy things like the password. Also the "start" input on a "press start" screen was 5 frames late in the published TAS... dunno how that happened =P

I've got a bit much on my plate at the moment, but sometime in the future I'd like to take a look at Star Ocean.

Cool! I'll make note of that. I don't think there is any hurry or anything, but I'm happy more of the list is claimed then I originally thought. Only 2 runs left in the 2XX series, anyone interested in Lagoon? I'll probably do Combatribes ... if I can find the motivation. If anyone wants to team up on that one too I am willing!

Submitted my Gauntlet TAS. The moment you can knock one more off your list is fast approaching! I may consider another TAS from this list. I'll think about it.

Great! I hope you find a game that suits your taste. With that and fist of the north star, the list is already down to 30! Although I do expect progress to slow down.

Alright already under 30 now! Although I think I made the mistake of doing all the easy ones first, so now when I get stuck its hard to tell what to do next. I tried kabuki quantum fighter, and while some frames can be saved here or there it throws things off in other levels, so I have yet to save any frames overall. Combatribes will probably take a while, so there probably won't be much more movement here until some of the others finish their runs. As a side note, the other end of the longest non-obsoleted runs list is becoming pretty interesting too. A couple of stars (ninja gaiden 2 and super C), and some other interesting games like Star Fox and metroid fusion appear now. I wonder what can be done with star fox now with the newer emulators.

Actually, yes, I am interested in Lagoon. I have to finish Faxanadu first, but I do have some familiarity with the game, and after dying to the final final final final final boss so many times because of how it starts the fight, I'd love to trivialize it. I will need to rewatch the original run, and ultimately see what I think I can do, but I would like to work on this (alone or with someone else).

Oh nice, the other 200 series run finally getting worked on soon then. I think that one is going to have some pretty big improvement potential. I believe omnipotententity already had a wip saving several seconds. I still haven't had much progress on combatribes, hard to find the motivation for that one. Another interesting thing to notice is that once metal storm is done along with super pitfall, the oldest NES runs will be Battletoads warpless. Hard to believe such a popular / well known game would be there. I wonder who will take those up?

From what I remember of the run, a lot of time is spent regenerating health, particularly in the mandatory fire dungeon, so there is some time-saving potential there as well. I'll reach out to OmnipotentEntity when I'm nearer the end of my current project. Good luck finding your motivation again.

I'll go ahead and check out Strider. Edit: yep, it's improvable. 5 frames saved from lag optimization, 62 frames saved from the first boss due to the swap to Easy. In terms of difficulty settings, all it seems to change is boss HP. Not much else.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

Oh nice, Strider looked fast already to me so I was saving it for later, good to see you found some quick improvements! I've updated the first post, I also saw in the TMNT 4 thread that that game should be relatively easy to improve, good to see. An awful lot of the remaining list has Nitsuja as the author, I hope other good improvements are found.

I think it's time to remove some games from the list, right? ;)

Indeed, and with Kabuki done the list is down to 26, 10 fewer then when I first posted it! Kabuki and pro levels were the ones I was most worried about from a technical perspective, so with those 2 done I don't think there are any left that would in principle be hard to improve (having already found an improvement in PoP2 that is.) However most of the remaining ones are longer runs / 2 players / ones I find boring, so not sure how fast things will get done from here. My goal is to have it under 20 by year end!

I tested some stuff with this game a few years ago and it seemed that a two-player run will be faster, even though the second player can't have as fast character as the first player. Sometimes the first player needs to wait for the second player to catch up, but it only happens in a couple of large screens. The minor time loss from the slower second player will be gained back in faster boss fights. There might also exist some shortcuts by dying on air and respawning on the same spot. You can "double-jump" from air when respawning. I did not find any useful shortcuts with this trick, but maybe I didn't try hard enough.

^ thanks for the tip, I never even considered 2 players. I TASed the first level (one player) a little while back but made no progress after that, guess I need to start from scratch anyway.

Alright Ice Climber is officially done! It will still need a revisit in the future, but for now time to move on. I will be working on double dragon next, it has known improvements already and I don't expect it to be really hard, but progress will likely be slow since it's not that interesting and Donkey Kong Country will occupy most of my attention.

I managed to get 121 frames ahead at the first level. I wish you luck; I got stuck trying to remove lag frames at the 2nd level and ended up demotivated.

Ah, my mistake, we were comparing to your movie and not foda's. We're 126 ahead of the published movie after 1-1. [tons of edits] Fixed comparison inconsistancies.

^Oh nice glad you both are doing that one! I've been busy so haven't made it far on double dragon, but I do hope to have it done before year end. wow and my list is already updated! Thanks Samsara : )
