Cheese Cat-astrophe Starring Speedy Gonzales (SMS) Any%
This is a interesting game that I thought would give a good TAS. So I did it.

Set up

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 1.7.1

Game objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Genre: Platform

Comments

This is the Master System version of the Cheese Cat-astrophe game, also avaiable on the Genesis and Game Gear. The gameplay is fast paced and the game has some interesting mechanics (such as swimming, rope climbing, etc). You have to find a key and rescue your friend before proceeding to the end of every level, then face a boss after every 3 levels.

Overall comments on the TAS

There isn't much to say about this game, the levels are pretty short and straightforward, and most of the bosses (except for the third) don't have quick kill strats (at least I didn't find any). I've ended the movie after the credits to enter my name for the scores.

ars4326: Claimed for judging!
ars4326: Updated movie file. Previous time: 13:17.64 (47797 frames). Current time: 13:07.26 (47175 frames).
ars4326: Hi, Mephistus & Really_Tall. All in all, this was a nice platformer run that kept up a pretty decent pace, throughout. The Sylvester boss fights, especially, were enjoyable (along with the little movements included, for added amusement). Good, solid work from you two!

Ah, that explains the extra input at the end, author writes their alias in for the high scores. My vote is Meh, I wished that you did more in the autoscroller part.

Not bad. The run doesn't feel that precise, but I can't identify any particular slow parts. I think I'm just feeling more annoyed by game design that gives no indication of where you enter some passages or walk through walls to find captured mice. At least the boss fights were fairly cleverly designed, with the last one looking way more difficult than anything else before. I'd say this is a Meh in entertainment. Good run though.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

User movie #26170418437168561 I improved the second boss by roughly 7 seconds. It can definitely still be improved though, so good luck with that Mephistus! I thought the boss had one less health than it actually did, so the ending can probably better. (The address 0184 is boss HP, and it lives while at 0 health and only dies when the value wraps to 255.) I didn't try and improve any other parts of the movie, but I might later today. Not touching this boss again though.

Hi, Really_Tall. To clarify, are you not wanting co-author credit for improving the boss fight? Just wanted to clear this up before updating the movie file :)

I would like co-author credit please. I'm working on optimising some other parts of the movie that are improvable, and I'll post back in a few hours with an updated movie file. There's no point updating the file until then.

Sure. I'll wait until an updated file is produced. Mephistus, are you fine w/ co-authorship here? It'll be your name and then Really_Tall's on the billing.

Let's take a moment to realize that David Cage wrote the music in this game Yes, David Cage.

I finshed it! User movie #26219911148802848 This is the final version. I improved the first and last boss fights, and lots of places where falling was necessary by jumping before a ledge. A couple of other things too.

Sync verified, file is good to replace on Mephistus' word.

Thanks, Samsara :) I believe I have everything now correctly updated. I should have an official judgment made here in a few hours!

I'm sorry, but I'm going to ask for a rejudge or this TAS to be redone. This Game is a European Game, therefore PAL. The SMS is set on NTSC Display. What this means is that this TAS might probably be rejected. I'm sorry that I didn't pick up on this until the very end when I claimed it.

This is the same case as SMS Batman Returns - while the game only has a PAL release, it was also released in Brazil, which uses PAL-M, which is basically the PAL color system with NTSC frequency. As such, using NTSC speed is considered valid for these games.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.
