It might be a problem with the current emu... It can't play SMA4:SMB3 without a hacked SRAM, but the 1.8 can.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Besides a warning message at the start, it plays SMA4:SMB3 just fine. Mario & Luigi does have some occasional flickering in it, but it's pretty ignorable compared to, say, the flickering in Paper Mario.

Is anyone making a TAS of this game? It seems like everyone else is having problems or they dont really want to do it. I would definitely enjoy making a TAS of this game.

As of right now, when you reach a certain point in M&L, the game freezes. There hasn't been a fix for that yet. So that is why nobody is doing a run of M&L at the moment.

Hasn't the fix (use a BIOS) been repeated several times already? I've already gotten past that point in the game on this emulator so I don't think it's impossible.

Durr, I guess I'm just too lazy to look back a single page in this thread. Please bonk me on the head with a rubber mallet whenever you can. And I'm surprised nobody has worked on the M&L run. I mean... doesn't Mario games usually end up really high on the TAS'ers "to-do" list?

So is it okay if I just record the run using the newest emulator? It seems like theres a lot of flickering though...

It's probably fine. They are just single frames of lag that happen when there's too much going on at once on the screen, and often they can be avoided or won't happen at all depending on the area you're in.

I started the run, but I need some more opinions. Getting the "great force" is not worth it, but the experience boosting item is. What I would like to know, is if I should get 25 woo beans and 25 hee beans, 40 woo beans and 10 hee beans, or 30 woo beans, 10 chuckle beans, and 10 hee beans? I cant decide what would be fastest. Btw I need 2 drinks to get the experience item and I use the jump game to get the hee beans. Edit: getting 25 hee beans takes about 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

I'm putting the run off for now, especially because its such a hard run and its a lot of work. If someone else wants to do it, go right ahead.

What stats are you gonna get? Stache and Power seem to be the only ones worth getting.

Power definately, and maybe speed. I think the fastest way to do damage is to get "lucky" hits, thought I'm not sure how easily that can be manipulated.

My improved M&L run will be up soon enough over at SDA. I knocked an hour off the last one, so it would probably be a good idea to check it out.

Does this game still freeze when you get to a certain point or is it TASable now? If so, would taking a tip from the Speed Run at Speed Demos Archive and buying the best pants and badges do any good?

There is also a certain technique that Luigi learns that might make things a lot faster. I believe it's called Spin Bros. or something like that. ANyway, if Luigi's Attack Power is high enough, I can take out every enemy on the screen. Or attack one enemy several times. ANyway, he can get the Scroll from the Thwomp in the Hammerhead Bros. cave after the final Hammer Upgrade.

I beleive that speed could also play part in that move you talked about above. And, its Cyclone Bros.

I've been playing this game a lot, but just for fun. I haven't been trying to TAS it seriously or anything. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but LUCKY shots are determined pretty far in advance. The only thing I've been able to really discover so far is that getting a LUCKY on Mario's first turn is determined before you enter a battle and doesn't change on a solo shot jump no matter how long you wait or menu change. I'll probably do more observing at some point, considering that's all I'm really able to do ^-^;;; Sorry if people are much farther in determining LUCKY shots, all I've been reading is actual difficulties with the game itself. Would be pretty fun to TAS this game. I don't even really think you need stache either. Just keep working that power. I've been doing it on my GBA and now I can defeat bosses after one turn. It's almost dishearting because I can't practice my advance moves...heh...the first turn is too powerful.

I wanted to make a TAS of this. But after 40.000 frames it got boring. In my opinion there are to many dialogues and fighting scenes over and over again.

Maybe, for some enemies' attacks, it is faster to let them hit you than it is to dodge them.

Ok, I'm actually working on this run now and am at the jumping game thing. I'm not sure if its worth it to get the extra exp. item, but I'm watching dragondarch's to help me decide. If anyone has an opinion feel free to post it here. Btw, it takes 50 beans (2 drinks) to get the exp. item.

i made a WIP, anyone tell me if it could be a bit faster, its basically just the talking and passed the boundary part http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/725983870/1277%20-%20Mario%20%26%20Luigi%20-%20Superstar%20Saga%20%28U%29.vbm

If you spent more time on where the A presses in the dialogues should be, you would save about a minute in total.. (but it's not like frame war yet) The walking parts could be improved. Don't hit a wall. Walk as less diagonally as possible and don't forgo corners. In the photo shooting part you could have been a bit creative and have grimaced just when he took the photo. Be creative in the whole game! (it's quite repetive with its dialogues and battles so be creative) - That's just my opinion. E: The jumping part was nice ;) I'm sorry that I deleted my attempt otherwise I would have posted it. (But I feel like restart...)

the reason i skipped the dialogue with turbo a is because my first movie got erased, and so i got impatient with it because that first movie skipped all dialogue frame perfect
